I thought Harrison looked like he had great stamina and sound defence last year especially after such a long time out, but I was a little surprised how often he got knocked backwards in contact. I don’t recall him breaking tackles so am hoping he shows some of that this year.

The X Factor, is of course, Dufty. If we get plenty of ball to him in space we could be a bit tasty on attack.

We would definitely get the leadership we need off McGuire, but it depends how he fares with the Superleague Disciplinary Committee.
There is no value in having a team captain who is suspended for a lot of games.

Does McGuire have a particularly bad disciplinary record? Genuine question, as I don't often get to see NRL games.

It looks promising regarding maguire at this stage but he has only been here for 2 weeks. If Powell wants the leadership group to emerge naturally then surely he has to wait a bit longer or at least let the whole squad come together before deciding.

He did have issues in the NRL with getting a few suspensions over there, but so did Adrian Morley, who came to Wire and managed to adjust his game, to avoid the suspensions.

Same here. Maguire is making the right noises and key was getting Drinkwater to glue the parts together. Hopefully some younger players will really step up in the backs as theyr'll be surrounded by plenty of protection and experience with our monster pack and pivots.

I really don't want him to give it Ratchford. It's bad enough that hes going to be our starting centre this season. With the squad overhaul and freshness brought in this season it's only right that we pull away from the old guard and give it to Maguire, who, has been there and done it.

He was offered captaincy as part of his deal.
The talk is just a smoke screen.
At this stage I don’t know if it’s solo, or with Ratchford.

| Whilst I think most professional teams these days depend on a senior group to collectively provide the leadership, we have still lacked a true captain for quite a while. Chris Hill was undoubtably a quality prop but I don't think he was what we needed in the captaincy role. Powell has said that he was going to wait before deciding on a captain and I think that is a clever move. He will see during pre-season who is providing the guidance and leadership during the informal training, but yes, Josh McGuire does look a good possibility. Would Williams be another ? I don't think I would pick Ratchford or Currie and don't know enough about our other new recruits.

| It shouldn't be Ratchford for the sole reason that the captain should at least be a guaranteed name in the starting 13.
I'd agree with McGuire.

| My biggest concern with McGuire is his actual ability to perform, because I watched the Dragons a fair few times this season and he just looked clueless. I don't want to confuse aggression with passion, since his aggression is going to cost us penalties. He looked slow, passes were off, carries were uneventful and tackles were questionable. I don't think I really want that as captain, or even starting. I'm excited about the leadership potential, but not much else. In all honesty, what Billy Magoulias did at the WC was better than anything I saw from McGuire this season.
I see no reason why Williams shouldn't be captain. Especially after his performances at the end of last season, and his WC performances.

| Never thought it was a good idea to appoint a Captain who hasn't played a game for us yet.
Lovely to hear Maguire's positive vibe but don't get carried away. Don't think it is important really but Williams for me at the moment ... one of the stars of World Cup, Captain of England & worked his knackers off last year. What is not to like? He is not a natural talker but I reckon we have a few of them. He will call most of the big plays anyway.

Lack of ability or fatigue?
As one of the grafters, a smart coach would spell him sensibly.

Williams is class, but being a class halfback doesn’t mean to say you can radiate an ora about the place that can magnetise respect from everyone.
Mike Gregory and Adrian Morley, Les Boyd to a lesser extent, had that about them, there’s been few if any in my lifetime, too young to understand if Alex had that about him, even though I remember him playing, although he was famous for he rants as a coach after us.
I don’t think Williams has what it takes, McGuire looks to be making the right noises, and the noises I would say are that of someone who already knows he is captain…regardless that I’ve already been told he is captain, or at least sharing that role.
Personally, my guess, he will share captaincy, otherwise it will mean Ratchford from that role he already shared. DP doesn’t seem to be that kind of guy.

| Murphy is the only player that I have seen, where the whole of the Rugby League World had to change the rules TWICE, because he manipulated them to his teams advantage.
He was that good......... and he could certainly motivate and lead men.

What an all-round terrible article. Two of the players we couldn't get because we have no quota spots, if we gave more money to George Williams, we wouldn't need cap space anyway - as he is marquee, and Gigot & Le Cam? Give me a break.
