The NRL is absolutely levels above the dross that is Super League. The idea that SL is more open and more risk taking is rot - its just that the quality of play (especially defence) is so poor that it makes guys like Field look world-beaters. In Australia, he simply wouldn't be allowed to run through hole-ridden defences like he presently does.
Anyone questioning the risk taking and flair in the NRL should simply go and see Mitchell Moses's try for Parramatta last weekend - a better quality try you won't ever see in Super League.'"

I record & watch in full every NRL game that Sky show - I barely watch any Superleague games.
It's like watching a different sport! England have zero chance in the forthcoming world cup, we'll be lucky to reach the semi finals because the quality of the game in Oz is just streets ahead.

I never said NRL wasn't levels above SL did I. What I'm about to write is what you have already alluded to in your full post but for clarification here is what I meant by my post:
NRL take very little unwarrented risk and play the rugby you are referring to only once they have earned the right to play like that. A high completion rate and good field position is completed first before any risk (If any at all) is taken.
SL however sees players trying to throw Benji Marshall flick passes out of their @r$e on tackle 1 in their own 10m. Risks like that, and the errors that come off of the back of them, enable players like Field to look world class. As we've seen from any half decent Half back with a running game that's come over from NRL.
Our standard is a million miles lower and therefore our games are more open to mistakes which in turn yields players like Field running round practically untouched.

| Field is a talent but I suspect teams will handle him a lot better in the second half of the season now they have had a look at him up close. There have been some poor attempts on him that other teams will learn from. Sort of a poor man's Graham Appo.

Cannot believe anyone who has watched Field over the last few weeks could knock this lad. He is class. Best RL player I have seen in UK for years.

I’ll get panned for this but he reminds me of Jonathan Davis at the moment. He’s just playing so well and with such pace and confidence.

| I think field and Wigan will look better with French in the team as well. The more threats on the field the better for the side with the threats in their ranks. Wigan are a long way behind saints but I think they're a fair distance ahead of everyone else.

Field is undoubtedly a superb player, but he's also playing in an era of biff, bash and muscle. Jiffy played in an era where most teams had at least one Jai Field, where the use of the legend tag was justified and he was still head and shoulders above his peers, here, in Aus and on both the club and international stage.

I agree. Field is a dangerous player with great acceleration. He isn't world class, he wouldn't get a start in the NRL as he doesn't offer enough. He's poor defensively and doesn't contribute to the attack other than being a very fast and elusive runner. He's not even the best fullback at Wigan, Bevan French is a better player than him. French is a player I really rate, he's class, and Wigan would be better with French at fullback and Field at 6. Their halves are desperately poor and having Field there would add a dimension to their attack they don't have with wasters like Cust, Leuluai (Offensively) and Smith in the halves. They managed 0 against Catalans and 4 against Saints. When your attack consists of throwing is backwards in a panic until it reaches Field and expecting him to do something miraculous it's expecting a lot.

The same has been said for as long as I can remember and yet we never truly look that far off when it comes to internationals in the recent past, they might beat us by a try or two.

It's not. Watch him play. He's a very dangerous player, as good a broken field runner as there is. But other than that he simply doesn't contribute at all. Watch the Good Friday game back and bar his finish he does literally nothing. Bevan French is a much better all-round player than he is. It's all relative, I'm not suggesting he's rubbish or that they should drop him (I'd play him at 6 to give them more threat in attack, which would also solve French not being able to defend on the wing), just that he has weaknesses in his game, ones that will stop him being the world class superstar that people think he is. 3 missed tackles in the Good Friday game and nowhere near any of the tries.

| There have been a fair few players who have burst onto the scene before going off the boil a little bit. Austin being a good example.
Will be interesting to see if that happens with Field. At the moment, he's great to watch.

Ok. He can’t create for anyone else or pass, yet you want to play him In the halves? That makes a-lot of sense!

Pace. It scares people, makes them do things they wouldn't normally do. He doesn't have to be Tommy Martyn or Lee Briers to create chances. If he's running around the middles and back rowers, they're going to compress and create space. People are also going to panic and shoot out of the line. He's also going to be there to backup any breaks or offloads. Their forwards like Mago are absolute puddings in terms of making metres, but they can get their arms free for an offload.
Wigan would be mad to not at least try one of Field or French in the halves. If they put Shorrocks/O'Neill to 9 and Smith into the halves to cover for Leuleuai and Powell they're massively missing a trick. They're debating this themselves on the Wigan forum right now.

I've seen his every game mate. How many have you seen? He creates plenty and has made several try saving tackles. You're talking nonsense.
