Yes, imagine how empty Old Trafford will be if we were to get a Catalans/Toulouse final ..

Because its saints.
Tomkins had a great game and deserved better than that at the end. Saints played well and generally were good for the win but I want to see them do it without the referee assist. That game was a 50/50 coin toss and Moore made sure it was a double sided coin. Saints were never going to lose it, the short spell in the first half that Moore called saints infringements Catalans took the lead. If he carried on in that vein it could ha e been an open expansive and hugely entertaining final.
Congratulations to saints on another superleague title (even if it went even on calls your defence was magnificent so it may not have changed the outcome) and Liam Moore for his Mom performance.

| Don’t think the officiating was great overall tbh only correct decision was the yellow card on Makinson; given the consistency with yellow cards this year. Far to many penalties first half, think Liam Moore did a slightly better job second half though.
Saints continue to be the benchmark, credit to Catalans for sticking at it made a good contest!

You'd rather go away games at Featherstone than Toulouse? Goodness, let's throw Catalans out and reform Runcorn. Who needs a glass of red beneath azure blue skies when you can have a warm pint of hydes anvil atop windmill hill.

The beer was quite palatable, when I called in for an after match pint at the Linnets Social. I never imbibed any of the vin rouge, so could not comment on that front.
Chris Amoo of the Real Thing used to watch Runcorn, as he was a big RL fan. Word was that he was fed up being mythered by the locals at Knowsley Road, and started watching Runcorn. Blocker Roach played for the Wire in a cup tie at canal street, during his time with us.
Not saying there's anything wrong with a jaunt across the channel, mind, but I've got some good memories of Runcorn.

Wouldn't put it past ST to put glue on his ears and shove his head between an opponents legs, to get a penalty out of a ref.

Old Bernard isn't happy.
https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/ca ... -referees/
I do think he has a strong point, there was a lot went saints way, some big calls he got wrong. Saints think Moore is the best referee and there is a reason for that, he seems to love them a bit too much and IMO has shown a bias in their favour every match i have seen him ref them.
Doesn't detract from Catalans not doing enough on the night, hard to with the incredible saints "Line Speed".

| So he wants his French team to play in an English competition and will refuse to play in a Grand Final if the referee is English.
A compromise could be to appoint a Spanish ref, as Catalonia is part of Spain they will be happy to be under the jurisdiction of Madrid. In fact they could move the Grand Final to the Bernabeu so that there isn't risk of a ref being swayed by an English crowd.

Congrats Saints.
Turning point - Cats not getting a penalty try when Makinson was sin binned.
I simply can't understand that decision.
Take Makinsons foul away and there's no Saints player in sight to stop a Cats score. Sorry but that was a truly abysmal decision and makes a mockery of the officiating.
There were other incidents on both sides and Cats gave away too many penalties.
Very fine line between the 2 teams on the whole but I can't get the thought out of my head that it was grossly unfair on Cats.
End of.
On to next season.

| Certainly three big officiating mistakes were made, and the Makinson one was very significant so I can understand Catalans annoyance; they do seem to get a rum deal from refs but then with the Tomkins brothers and McClorum in your ranks that's not suprising.
I was very suprised Moore got the gig though; I don't think he's biased as such, just hugely incompetent even by SL refereeing standards.

| With the Makinson incident - where does the VR responsibility start/finish ?
Moore sent it up as a 'no try' and the VR then determines its a penalty & sin bin - not Moore - so was it down to VR to call it as a penalty try or not too - or was that not an option as Moore didn't specifically ask for that to be checked ?

How sad do you have to be, in the aftermath of your own club winning a trophy, to spend your time on the forum of another club, making witless quips, as though anyone reading them is the least bit interested in them?

It has to be 100% certain that the try would of been scored,Yaha had lost his footing as was going to his knees before he got hit,he would of been short of the line,he could of knocked on as he hit the floor, the cover could of come and put him into touch before he could make the line ect ect. That's why it wasn't a penalty try.

What three big mistakes were they? The Makinson decision was correct, sent up correctly by Moore. They have to be certain that he would have scored if Makinson doesn't foul him, not if Makinson isn't there. There is clearly plenty of doubt about that, so it's completely the correct decision. The yellow card for Makinson is the controversial bit there, his challenge contacts the elbow and it slides up to become a grab. There was an absolutely identical tackle by a Catalans player a few minutes after that didn't have the drama of a potential try and no yellow was given.
The other one people are clutching at is the incorrect play the ball penalty against Tomkins in the 78th minute, with claims it should have been a penalty to Sam instead. Again, completely the correct decision. Batchelor does impede him clearly, holding his head between his legs. That would have been a six again to Catalans (not a penalty) had Tomkins stood up and played the ball correctly. Instead he played it with his head about a foot off the floor and stepped over it. Harsh on Tomkins maybe, but definitely the right decision. A calmer, more controlled player would have stood up, moaned at Batchelor and got Moore waving his arm for six again.
The Coote foot in touch one does look farcical when you see the replay. But no one called that in the stadium, the Catalan fanatic neutrals near me didn't claim for it, the Catalans fans it was very close to didn't and even Maloney didn't spot it. Quite how I'm not sure but I'm going to go with the angled edges to the pitch at OT deceiving the eye. But that one I would have been raging about if it were against Saints, the touch judge has to see that. But it didn't decide the game, it's not like we scored from that play.
The supposed red card for Mata'utia was also a non issue. It was retaliation to exactly the same thing being done to him, so there would have been two cards being shown, not just him. It was in back play and Moore can't see that and keep up with play, so another one that is on the video ref. There were three high shots by Catalans players that would have been obvious yellows in the semi finals and I suspect that's what McManus and the Saints fans would have raged about had Catalans won it. That tells me it was just a tight Grand Final, you always get minor errors by officials both ways.

It’s pretty simple. A penalty try is awarded if the ref has no doubt the try would have been scored if not for foul play. As first contact was made with the shoulder before it bounced up to the head, initial contact was perfectly legal. Ergo, the lad was going into touch with it without the foul play. If anything you’d have to say the yellow was incredibly harsh as he did hit the shoulder first, but understandable with how any contact with the head at all is being officiated lately.
