| I can’t see past the Coach. Our team feels a bit like Saints under Cunningham, you could see they had good players, they just weren’t performing. He couldn’t/wouldn’t change what the team were doing, Holbrook reinvigorated them. We need a new coach to do that. Interestingly he kept on the same back room staff.
Once the coach has been replaced you can look at all the other details because whatever people may think you can’t just get rid of contracted players by telling them to go. You can’t magically change the whole youth set up (the Salford match suggests we aren’t too far off in that department).
Confidence needs restoring though. Poor Ellis Robson, plays well, gets given a 2 year contract is on the bench for the most important game of the season yet the coach would rather flog Hill to death than give him some game time. Something is clearly wrong.

| Quote ="Hatfield Town Wire"My thoughts, such as disappointing end to the season. For me Price has to go. He can’t survive just because of the challenge cup final win against stains. We have got to get a new coach who can mould new players in from the academy. One of the most exciting games this season was the youngster playing against Salford. As a club we have never really trusted or given the youngsters a go. We have one of the best training facilities in the league, one of the best modern grounds in the league. If any young player from the whole catchment area of the north west or Yorkshire was shown around that would be impressed until they met Price. That would not inspire you to sign. Instead we spend vast sums of money on players coming to the end of there playing days. Our recruitment team need axing whoever signed the likes of J CLarke and Sita. We need more home grown talent who want to fight for the primrose and blue not to do stupid tackles have be banned more often than available to play. Up and coming players are put if signing for wire as they have seen in the past few years they don’t get much game time. The likes of saints wigan castleford Leeds give the academy players a chance. For me I would approach McDermott'"
We can always improve but it's simply not true that we have never 'given the youngsters a go'. Gareth O'Brien ( I am a big fan) had an extended run at 6 and didn't cut it. Dec Patton was given the 6 shirt for more than one entire season and disappointed. On the plus side Toby King - despite many on this board calling him useless - has also had a good run and established himself now as one of the best young centres in SL.

| Putting your faith in inexperienced youngsters requires a coach with some steel; they will make mistakes, they will show their inexperience, you may lose some games as a result.
Unfortunately, whenever things go awry Price's default is to revert to the safe, risk free style of football and shoehorn in experienced players rather than tough it out.
I've said it before - if I was the agent of Thewlis, Dean, Doro, Johnson etc my advice would be move on, before you waste the important years of your career.

| Quote ="morrisseyisawire"Aaaah yes, the "they played in the NRL so must be good" argument. The competition that gave us Latu, Asotasi, Akuola, Roberts and God bless him Craig Teitzell.
Hughes I can cope with - he tackles. A lot. Fair enough. Hughes plus J Clarke, Davis and Robson is a surfeit of tackling machines. Tackling isn't our problem, scoring points is.
My head remains wobble free.'"
Come on admit it you had a small wobblettte. If you recall the origin of our discussion oriented around Moving Forward and my suggestion was that perhaps Hughes and Clarke were too similar and arguably I would say too lightweight. As you say we have a surfeit of this type of player. As I and a number of people have stated many times we need some grunt up front to support Hilly and Coops. I notice Saints have signed a prop this week and admittedly he knows the Saints coach which might help but it shows there are props out there. Why can't we find one is my question.

| Indeed, the antithesis of Wane. So many opportunities this year to blood even more youngsters which he wasted. No pandemic and we lose Robson without ever having clapped eyes on him, Livett seems a missed opportunity as well.

Dec Patton is the only playing halfback at Warrington with a Challenge Cup winners medal, and without his ten minute input in the 1/4 final, we wouldn’t have had the opportunity for Austin and Widdop to play in the semi final to ensure Patton remains the only one.

They would review the value for money / return on each of those assets , against comparable assets in the rest of the market.
Again, start with the front row

To be fair, he's probably getting confused with 2011 when we had one of the greatest teams of the super league era(of any club!). Think we finished top with a points difference of +670 odd,...................and didn't even get to the grand final

Having a challenge cup winners medal isn't a measure of a players ability, for example, Chris Riley has three CC winners medals, Paul Johnson and Tyron McCarthy have one, Ritchie Mathers two with Wire.
Dec Patton has done a job for us, but he's not the future.

Robson, Thewliss, Doro, Roebuck, Longstaff, Dean and Connor Wrench managed a total of only 13 first team games between them through the whole season. That is not going to do much for their development. Either Price is very conservative or he felt under pressure to grab the points. Either way he has overseen an underperforming Wire team whilst simultaneously sacrificing game time for the juniors. Next season there will be no Reserves and no dual reg., so I suspect their game time will again be very limited.

| I think i would rather watch a team with enthusiastic kids probably rotated into the team on a regular basis & being developed by the coaching staff into decent ,100% committed players than watching imports who only perform as & when it suits them.

If I was any of the 7 lads that Winslade's Offload mentioned, and Price was STILL here in a months time, I'd be thinking [iWTF am I doing here[/i?
Mamo might as well just leave. Thursday night shows that Price has no faith in him. A potential strike weapon (and taking up a quota spot), playing I Spy with Robson for 75 minutes just shows that Price is either
a) a stubborn fool, waiting for a miracle, so he can say [iI told you so[/i, SHOULD the miracle occur
Or
b) tactically brain dead
Or
c) plain daft
So many players (as well as fans) are wasting their time, as long as this fool is anywhere near our club. The next 2-3 weeks are going to be crucial for the next few years, for players and fans alike.
Moran and Middleton MUST see there's a problem, surely?

| Can't see many people buying season tickets for next year until we can go. That will be the reason they believe rather than most of us want a new coach.

| What’s next?
More of the same. Third place. Serial under-achievers.
Warrington will not win the grand final until we find that ruthless demand to win from the top down. I’ve got friends who’ve had ST for nearly 30 years who won’t review next year.

| Well , we seem to have got rid of the scientists , Doom & Gloom , off Boris's tv bulletins & now we have a scientist from vaccine maker BioNTECH predicting the end of 2021 before things are back to normal. I should think season tickets for 2021 will be rarer than hen's teeth .

I heard the same on the Andrew Marr show but I'm clinging to the hope that his interpretation of normal might be different to one where it's simply a case of easing lockdown restrictions. He might have meant normal in the sense where everything is reset to the time before we'd even heard of Covid
Btw agree season ticket sales will be a hard sell

| I’m not sure if anybody on here follows John Davidson on Twitter but he has just tweeted a link to an article about us - asking if we are on the hunt for a new halfback.
Sadly you need to pay to read his content so I haven’t seen it. Does anybody know more? Maybe a reference to Widdop again?
