The suggestion is that there will be no attempt to replace him this season, to cut costs and there may be another couple leaving early in a similar way. Seems like they're almost writing this season off if they do that.
Which makes me wonder about the current situation and Warrington. How would you feel if the inevitable end of the title drought was this season and in front of no crowd or a very small crowd in a makeshift Grand Final somewhere? Would that ruin the moment or would you not care?'"
Couldn’t Kare less, how and whenever we win the grand final.Oppistion fans will be on here telling us how we never really won it anyway.

We've signed Joel Thompson from Manly, presumably to replace Zeb Taia and are meant to be close to a couple more forwards. I don't think it'll be a marquee signing, but hopefully someone who's not far off replacing Luke Thompson.
There could still be absolute chaos in Super League. The likes of Wakefield and Cas can't be finding the current situation easy to cope with and it could be that there are some very good players available for next season later in the year if clubs decide to recover some cash.

Neither of those 2 should be in the league anyway, so I don't have much sympathy for their financial plight.

| I agree. I can see a lot of movement between clubs and there may need to be some rules on how the cap works. So if I understand this correctly then Alex Thompson will still count on the cap for the whole of this season. But say for example wakefield are trying to reduce costs by offloading somebody like fafita then under the cap saints would not be able to sign him. Is that correct

You mean Luke Thompson?
He is no longer a Saints player, so that salary cap will be available for them to use this season - they are free to use it on whoever they want, as long as they dont go over the £2.1m cap limit plus exemptions.

| Sorry, yep, Luke Thompson. I guess the clue was in the thread title. So if we released BMM his remaining salary is free for us to use on a new signing as long as they balance out so that we don't go over the cap.

That is a darn good question. Clearly a GF win is the goal but if it were as a result of a chaotic season like this I would be really disappointed to have to watch it on the telly but hey, a GF win id a GF win ..... I don'l really know. Whoever 'wins' this season will have "'it's not a proper season / GF thrown at them and I would hate that for our first big one. On the other hand would we care what other people think. Damm Saddo that is a good question

| Winning the GF in this season is a token title and won’t carry much honest gravity to me. We’d have the “yes you played every game at home and didn’t play a seasons worth of games”...It’s like Wigan and Saints have already threw the towel in and say ‘You can have it Wire, this season is a washout and we just want to get threw it without losing too much’ I agree with that notion.
Only after a complete season can we take earned credit, be it following up in 2021 and even then, 2021 might well be a token win too.
Of all the seasons it could have took to win it, it’s just us to be this patch-up.

| Champions is champions no matter what the circumstances, or criteria.
We've won the end of season play offs, when the winners of the league were crowned champions. We've won the league, when the winners of the end of season play offs were crowned champions.
If we do get to complete the season, one team will be in the record books as champions - forever and a day, end of.

| I really don't understand the logic about this season being a right off and not a proper season. My view is that clubs will have to overcome many different challenges and get through a lot of players to get to the end. Whoever gets to the GF will fully deserve it with the winner getting every bit the plaudits that comes with it.

Couldn't care less. A title win is a title win. You think a player will look back at the end of his career over his trophies and go, 'Aw but I won that one with no fans present'.

Bulldogs are terrible. He'll kill it over there though and stand out like a sore thumb. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a stepping stone and he moves to a bigger NRL club in 1 or 2 years. Bunnies haven't replaced Sam yet and they love an English prop forward.

No, but most players will surely get more of a buzz out of winning a trophy in front of 70,000, than an empty stadium?
I mean that lap of honour will be something to behold, won't it?

Course they will but it is what is. I'd rather win it this season in front of no fans than not win it at all this season.

I guess what we are establishing, is that this year's comp is going to be a devalued one - Will be nice to win, but will have the kudos of winning the Locker Cup....

With regards to Currie / McMeekan. Second rowers tend to have a couple of seasons where they are touted as the best thing since sliced bread. I don't know if that is media hype or if they hit a patch where they have a great combination with their half back/centre on a particular edge only for that combination to end. I think McMeekan played on the RIGHT edge with Ben Roberts and Jake Wester, if so both his halfback and centre have moved on. I have mentioned before that on the edge combinations and timing is crucial. Currie has had Atkins, Goodwin and now King at centre with Sandow, Brown, Patton and then at the start of this season Ratchford and then Widdop. That is a lot of changes to our left edge in the last 4 years.'"
I think once you start making excuses for a player like this it's a sign that they aren't really a top class player. Look at how Simon Grix had a career disrupted by injury, coming back in to the team in different positions with different combinations of players around him and he always looked good. If McMeekan is only able to be a good player if he plays on the right edge with Roberts and Webster then no point signing him unless we're going to play him there and sign those players too. I don't want him and then have to say yes he's been disappointing but he's moved to a whole new team, had to learn whole new system, excuse, excuse etc...
In Currie's case, its going to be the injury rather than having turnover in players around him. In his first few seasons he had a halfback carousel of Myler, O'Brien, Wheeler, Sandow and Patton. and he switched between second row and centre, the only difference in stability between then and the last couple of years was he had Atkins there most weeks rather than having the change of Goodwin/King. Are we really saying that the reason Currie was so good was because of the stability he had with Ryan Atkins? The big difference between before and after was he had two serious injuries. If he hadn't had those injuries, we wouldn't be having this conversation, it would have been more like "are the rumours true that he is signing for an NRL team in 2021?"

Very likely as Wayne Bennett was very keen to get him into the national team.
