Watson had one of those years with a decent squad, currently his team look like a rag tag bunch who are as a whole not as skilled as last years squad. If he shows he can manage them to better performances then he could be considered for a bigger job, until then he would off my radar. Our media manager/ CEO will no doubt be watching his progress or lack of it.

Not being a fan of Price, my only replacement would be Wane but that may not be possible.

The play the ball is another level from Roosters. I think they're just making it look a game. Can't see Saints living with Roosters in.the last 15 min

Good first half, I can't see saints winning this. Roosters are sharper, more physical and they manage the ruck speed much better.

Yeah they didn't shame themselves at all, roosters are just better. If saints had coote and grace they would have been better matched. They'd still have lost though.

Roby had been a great player in his day and a great servant if Saints and one player I always want the best for...but tonight the gulf if him and Friend is at different ends of the scale.

No chance. He hasn't played since October and hasn't had a pre-season, of course he's going to be rusty. Still got through plenty of work.

Saints did okay tonight. We matched them in the forwards but just didn't have the quality in the backs to take the chances. After all the crying from SL fans last season that our front rowers wouldn't be able to handle the NRL, I think they both did fine tonight.

Even though the won, Sydney were clearly below par last night. Any decent team should be able to nill this Saints side.

Sintellins were not ‘superb’.

The pack did perform well but the back line did not. Welsby in particular had a nightmare and the three quarters blew chance after chance.

However there isn’t a ‘gulf’ in ability between the two leagues looking at that game.

PS our ‘perennial losers’ did okay last August.

Typical performance of a SL club, plucky and nothing else. Walmsley and Thompson were shining lights, the rest of the forwards were pretty quiet. The fullback was poor.

This game should be played with a couple of weeks break after the seasons finish not as a curtain raiser for the new season.

In an ideal world yes, but we don't live in an ideal world. If the SL champions played the NRL champions in Australia when both sides are in peak condition, it would be an absolute blood bath. Walmsley and Thompson (And Lees before he sprinted full speed into that guys shoulder) stood up to them brilliantly and you could tell by JWH's high shot first tackle on Walmsley that he was worried. But can you imagine that game if those two aren't playing? That is what the rest of Super League is like. There's no one in Wigan's pack or Warrington's pack standing up to that.

Super League just needs to look at how the NRL does the basics. They play the ball so cleanly, they run hard and at good angles and they win the floor and repeat. Super League players get up holding the tackler, walking round them, trying to push for an extra few yards they couldn't do before they were tackled. Then they play the ball whilst walking forward and the hooker throws a looped pass to a guy stood still. The crackdown on the play the balls the referees promised needs to actually happen. It's like watching a different sport.
