| The scores against Hudds weren't all that well crafted I guess, but I think Price was asking for a back to basics after some average performances in the past few weeks. Lets not forget Lineham & Charnley are fairly high up the try scoring charts, most of those coming from opportunities created by good passing movements.

| There is PLENTY to work on I'm sure Price is aware of this and reasonably happy about that. He's stated that he doesn't expect, nor want i suspect, us to be playing our best stuff right now and is looking for a slow-build. If it was play-off time next week then I'd be worried and Saints would waltz to the title.....but it isn't. We all know the main weak link in attack and if Price had other options I doubt he'd be playing. Brown is on his way back, this could help matters.
Phil Clarke made an interesting observation a few weeks back (it happens) that the last 4/5/6 (can't remember the number) winners of the GF have had a good kicking at some point in the season. I'm glad some of our weakenesses our showing up now and we've got time to work on them.....seems preferable to romping away with a season mostly untouched.

| We could win a lot of our games with healthy scores against lower table sides ( or decent one's ravaged by injury ) and finish the season top 2. But you don't get anything for that, except perhaps the hubcap. After that it's a knockout competition, and if we have a period of 15-20 minutes where we are giving away penalties, offloading the ball in our 20m, or making mistakes, then we are very likely to end up with nothing at the end of the season.
That is the reason we do need to be concerned about Sundays performance, despite racking up 50 points.

I think the point about “switching off” is more of a concern than how we score tries, at present.
I’m also concerned about the seeming invitation for teams to run at us full pelt rather than moving up quickly. No doubt our coach sees all these things and is working on them, and we are in 2nd position while doing so which hopefully is a “good thing”!

| Having watched the highlights back on last night's SL show I'm less concerned about how the points were scored in comparison to actually scoring them. Sure there were a lot of scruffy try's from close range well I say GREAT!! It takes all sorts and as someone said there's nowt extra for artistic impression.
It wasn't that long ago in simplistic terms that we'd cruise up the field but couldn't find a try from 10m and most stifled plays resulted in a hang the ball high and hope 5th play. Our problems were such that is seemed our tactic was to kick penalties 10 yards to start in the opposition 40/35 rather than apply line pressure
I think that we do have the players to play attractive free flowing rugby but in the first instance give me the win. This time round we got to 10/15m with a PTB and made it count (probably still with Price's half time chat ring in the player's ears) . If we can hurt teams from deep and close in then that's all to the good IMO

| I have just watched the highlights on the Super League show. I think the assessment of Huddersfield's tries is over generous, 2 clearly came off the back of Warrington mistakes, and over critical of us as some of our tries were well crafted. The lead up work being where the "good stuff" was done.
Am I the only one thinking that if anyone other than Dec P had kicked the ball for Goodwin's try, which was pinpoint accurate, there would have been rather more praise for it?

Exactly...theres so many quickly find faults and not praise his contribution.
Well done Dec

| I don’t care how we score them as long as we score them when we need them.
This is the serious failing , we need to practise and practise scoring tries with a monkey on the players backs.

I dont think I was being overgenerous I thought their halves looked a better combination than ours. They showed some slick handling and they could create a line break for one of their players at least.
and I've never heard of either half back, although the number 7 Ive seen a few times and he looks quite a good find, in the mould of Michael Dobson in my own opinion.
on Dec Patton, when listing the tries I did wonder if anyone would give him credit for two on the money kicks..........It took 4 pages

Their halves, really? I wasn't at the game sunday, but from what ive seen on sky, the game earlier this year and reports and journos on Twitter, they reckon frawley is bloody awful, and far far from a replacement for brough.

| This has intrigued me a bit, we're all guilty of a bit of knee jerking, the saints game hit us all hard and then doubly so with the salford perfomance however as i say the OP has intrigued me, so lets have a look at the highlights going back to the start of the season

9 tries.
1, austin busts two tacklers from about 10 metres out.
2,10 metres or so out, in front of the sticks , long pass to patton, short pass to austin round the back, kr defence s it and gets pulled in ball ends up in linehams hands who goes in at the corner.
3, within their 20, pass from DH om the right to patton, who grubbers towards the posts, Philbin is 1 of 3 chasers who are on the scene to pick up and force his way over.
4,austin breaks a tackle again on the 40 down the right hand side, occupies the fullback and passes to the winger who goes over in the corner,.
5, ptb on the 40, ball is passed to Patton goes near(ish) the line, outside defenders have pushed up anticipating ball to BMM and theres a short pass to goodwin who goes through the line and steps the fullback.
6, ptb witiin their 20 near the sticks, intelligent pass to Philbin who is running the angle to behind the ptb, KR defence were all going to our left following patton and ball players.
7, Clarke runs from dh on halfway, tackle isnt completed on the 40, he offloads to other clark, who tips to austin, to B&M to hughes(pulling defenders in) who goes upfield, ties up defenders and a backdoor offload to toby, in at the corner.
8,linehams 90 metre intercept.
9, davis 20 put runs from dummy half, pulls in defenders and passes to sita who bursts the line, and gets up avoiding a woeful attempt by the fullback to stop him.
I think its fair to say our forwards were fairly dominant on this day,kr obviously arent much cop

| Hands down the most unnecessary thread in memory.
We scored 8 tries which, as scoring 8 tries often does, involved a certain culpability from the opposition.
Hudds scored 3 tries, and, wonder of wonders, included errors by us along the way..... THAT... folks, is professional sport.
Unless Pricey posts here, the number of relevant SL coaches' opinions on this board will number south of one. We are better placed to win the GF this year, than Wigan were last, .... rejoice and enjoy the trip on Friday.
(those that care enough to go..)

2 tries
1, 10m out austin does a show and go through the line then busts a tackle from the fb to score.
2, hughes offloads late in the tackle 15m out, defence is retreating, clarke to austin who runs at thr line pulling in centre and winger and a fast pass to lineham to go in at the corner.
Forwards were pretty mullered in this match.

| Threads like this always remind me of a Wires fan stood next to me in the Fletcher end one year, during Phil Blake's first spell with us.
Blake collected the ball on halfway, chipped the defence, regathered, accelarated away, lost a boot, and went round the full back with ease to score.
Aforementioned fan rolled his eyes and said "Pfft. Thats all he can do though, score tries".
Next time Blake Austin breaks through with similar grandeur, someone tell him to sidestep a few more players on his way to the tryline, avoid forwards (nutmegging them doesn't count) and maybe perform a little sing-song en route, just to make it look more convincing.

He was born in the London area.

No it is 9. He means points scored. Sts have 439 we have 430.
I wonder if they have the same subject thread on their forum?

Fair point statistically-wise. But if you watch our play and tries, do you not think there's plenty more scope for some moves involving slick handling and better timed runners/passes?

2 tries
1, hill offloads under the sticks, clark nearly scores, austin reacts quickly after the ball is stolen to go over
2, clark goes over from dh
Forwards overwhelmed in this one.
Also danny Richardson hooting at our fans after lms scoring is nauseating, he was atrocious that night.

| We scored 8 tries, huddersfield scored 3. All their tries were from superb rugby and ours were just from mistakes from the opposition. Next time we get 50 put on us I cant wait for the same posters to wax lyrical about the 2 or 3 quality tries we scored in the game.
