Our time with Agar was long, hard and painful, mindnumbingly frustrating. We became so disenchanted as fans that many walked away never to return. It nearly broke me too. Performances were generally dull and lifeless it felt like heart of the club was dieing. It was a dour and soul destroying period. The moment he left the shadow lifted and we started breathing again.

Ok I am convinced.

We don't exactly know what Agar does as assistant coach, but whatever it is he is clearly doing it badly. Even though we don't know exactly what it is that he is doing badly.

You're right Winslade, its hard to pin down, because he talks a good game really.
We just called it the "Agar effect".

A quite mysterious thing, no-one knows what it is, but he takes it with him wherever he goes



Having said that, he's a nice bloke by all accounts.

Agar was recruited to Warrington as Tony Smith`s squash partner.

His wages don`t count on the salary cap.

If Simon Moran his happy to bankroll Agar`s salary, then I agree with Charlie Winslade that the criticism being aimed at Richard Agar is totally unfair.
However, I have no idea of his squash playing skills/ competence.

When Smith leaves Wire, then there will longer be any requirement to employ Agar in this role, & he will leave at the same time as Smith.

If Agar is causing the team to play badly through his coaching methods you would expect Smith to see where things are going wrong on game day or before & correct matters. That is assuming that TS has a hands on role & is actually capable of knowing any better & correcting the problem.

So are you suggesting that Agar is the donkey that is kept by breeders solely to keep a racehorse company? A secondary role to the main event? A sort of RL fluffer if you will ?

'Fluffer' might be too strong a term, I see him more as the Rosco P. Coltrane to Smiths 'Boss Hog'

If things are not so great in the dressing room it's possible that's why Agar was brought in ,to communicate between the boys & Smith. Apart from being a squash partner,Agar seems ideal to carry the can for Smith in the bad times ,when the kitchen is too hot.

So after a couple of pages we have learned that Agar has been brought in to play squash with TS and to 'put out the cones, on the training field'. We don't seem to be any closer to understanding how he is causing the problems at the club though.

You can also claim that no theories have been put forward that justify his still being there either (btw, we're bottom of the table).
