It depends how you look at it. I'd say it was a forum for Rugby League fans, which generally mains Rugby League related topics but also a number of off topic threads; like this one.
Quote ="Mystic Yed"if anyone doesn't like it or thinks it's puerile to call it Wendyball tough titties really.'"
That goes for anyone's opinion on anything you don't agree with. But people should have to be prepared to back up an opinion and be open to a debate on it.

| Just out of interest, you hardcore footballing types, do you give rugby league the same defence and argument when other footballing types refer to it as 'egg chasing' or playing with odd shaped balls in a derisery fashion?

Yes. As long as what they are saying is wrong. On football forums, you often see people just seeing Rugby as one code. A lot of the Rugby Union stereotypes are also applied to League.

| Quote ="WazzaWire"Got to agree with moving on - boring game to watch most of the time. I used to be huge football fan 6 years back and got into RL by accident after going to a Wire game with a mate. Used to argue that RL was poo and footy was better, but now the idea of paying to watch a game where after 90 minutes the score could end up nil-nil, where diving and cheating is the norm, and the stupid amounts of money involved - No thanks, RL for me.'"
I was a huge football fan before I got into Rugby League, but I'm still a football fan.
Using the excuses of diving, too much money and games ending 0-0 to explain why you don't like football anymore is just poor.

| I'll be honest, I don't really know why I lost interest in football, I played junior RL at 8 and played for Parkside until a few injuries ended my ability to play, maybe it's not playing football in the first instance that helped kill it off.

That’s a very facile and naive argument. No one is trying to stifle debate, I’m just trying to keep it on topic.
The topic was simply asking for people to come along and watch Warrington Town FC in their big game. It was specific to that club. It wasn’t asking for people to open up an in-depth, general debate on whether football is a game for mard-s.
Have you never seen threads on here that make a request and then receive zero replies? They just drift down onto page 2 and disappear because people have no interest in them.
If you have no interest in Warrington Town, then people should just click onto the next thread rather than getting their soapbox out and going off-topic about football.
As for using terms like 'Wendy/fanny/girly'; it strikes me that these are just synonyms pedalled by people who would much rather use less-PC terms.
Oh and for the record, I am no big football fan. This is just one of innumerable things that gets right on me threps.

Thousands of girls play the game every weekend. Lots of girls playing football in Warrington - Crosfields, Vulcan (sort of Warrington), Winwick, Fife, Appleton, Lymm.... Big in lots of schools too.
I think it was the fastest growing participation sport in England a couple of years back.

Girls do play it but it's not a girls game, and it certainly isn't the girls game as Moving on would imply it to be.

| Quote ="Monsieur Invisible"People who call football wendyball or fannyball are just embarrassments to themselves, not to mention blinkered and in total denial about rugby league.
Think about rugby league. Last weekend, I lost count at how often I saw massive Kiwi players throw themselves face first into the turf at the play-the-ball when no contact was made. What happened? Penalty, penalty, penalty. What a load of massive WendyFannies they all are. I’ve seen RL players ‘take themselves out’ after kicks or run directly into defenders and go down like Ronaldo, looking for a penalty, and defenders doing likewise running into attackers when trying to get tries chalked off for obstruction. It’s just a way to try and earn an advantage within that sport.
Don’t get me wrong. I much prefer rugby league and cricket to football, but I accept that footballers rolling around on the floor, clutching their faces after being blown a kiss, or diving for penalties when there’s no contact is just that game’s version of gamesmanship. It’s done to try and earn a free-kick, win a penalty, get an opposing player booked/sent off or rile the opposition into playing badly or overly aggressively. It’s wrong, embarrassing and laughable, that it just the way in which you try to earn an advantage within that sport.
This may be unpalatable to the noble few RL fans, but it happens in every sport. Cricket has its sledging; boxing its low-blows, and horse racing has so many dodgy things happen, it’s amazing that anyone bothers betting on it at all.
The original point of this thread was a proud Warringtonian trying to garner support for one of the town’s growing sporting teams, the running of which he is heavily involved in. They are doing well and trying to progress up the league and build a fan-base, but this thread, as usual, descends into a load of negative tripe (and the thread was labelled as an O/T before anyone says this is a RL forum). Here’s a thought: if you’re not interested, then just don’t comment at all.'"
Spot on Monsieur Invisible great post. It's not a crime to like RL and football

| Nobody makes you watch it. I don't like soccer these days for my own reasons, so I haven't watched a game in years. Others love it and that is their prerogative, I will take nothing away from them for that!

I'd ask why you added Carrick in there. The first choice centre midfielder for his team who as won five league championships, a Champions League and been in two other Champions League finals in seven seasons.
If he was Italian or Spanish and called MÃcheál Carracci or Michel Cardona all the football hipsters would be into him.

So by your reckoning, if a player isn't Messi, he's useless.
As for the other names
Smalling: Solid centre back with potential to get better. Should be around the England squad.
Sturridge: Never really been at a club where he has been settled. But given a run of games, he's capable of scoring goals
Wellbeck: Not my favourite United player but has scored goals at international level, so would expect to be in an England Squad.
There have been plenty worse players who have played for England than them four, even before you stopped watching.

Apart from France and Portugal having to qualify via a Play Off the daftest thing about your comments in particular and those of the it's not a proper sport persuasion is that the OP was calling for some support for a local semi pro/amateur football team.
Not a quantum leap thread drift admittedly but daft none the less.
Anyone know how they got on?

Your logic doesn't equate. Out of the four players mentioned, only one will probably start in the World Cup. Of course, Brazil Argentina, Germany, Spain and Italy all have a better chance of winning the World Cup. They have better players/ teams/squads than England.
Your argument is that you think the standard of the English team is down on what it has been in the past and that was one of the reasons you stopped watching. That's means you must have been enjoying it when the likes of Jermaine Jenas, Danny Mills, Andy Sinton and Darius Vassell were playing. Or further back when Geoff Thomas, Carlton Palmer and Keith Curle were getting picked. Or how about the much revered 86 and 90 World Cups when the likes of Tony Dorigo, Steve Hodge, Steve Bull, Terry Fenwick and Kerry Dixon were in the squads
