| The one thing Westwood certainly did was look like he wanted the game to be played at the intensity level of an international.
I half enjoyed the game, certainly better than the games against France.
Didn't think there were many (any?) standout performances for either team but I wouldn't want to see Peacock, Sinfield or Hall play at that level again.

| Peacock looks a bit lost (atm)
Sinfield, I've said this before (and been derided by over-protective Whinos fans), is (at best) a VERY good SL player...and that's where it ends
Hall is just a good SL player
Let's be honest, who out of tonight's Englad 17, would worry an Aussie international 'C' team...not many...certainly not any of the 3/4 line, that's for sure...going across the side...the Aussies would only be worried about Graham (and possibly Weswood and Tomkins) even getting a look-in.

Problem is Rogues that there are some idiots out there who think players are done and dusted once they turn thirty.
Tonight Georgie Boy certainty showed what crap such people are spouting; hey?

Then has to troll, saying Myler wasn't good. when....
1} Scored a try
2} Saved two other
3} Biggest try scoring threat in attack
4} Created quite a few decent openings out left
5} Defence strong all nightt.
Also couldn't resist a pop at Bridge, when he didn't do much wrong. I can see the trolling a mile off. Gives Westwood credit to buy a bit of time to put down our other players. I'm not saying Richie was outstanding, but he wasn't poor or just a support player, I think he was steady and did his job without being spectacular.

| Just popping over to your forum to say that Westwood was one of only a handful of players that played without worrying about injury. He threw himself into all the tackles he made. He played for England, not just his club last night.

No. He is right about Westwood but I'm afraid I still have trouble getting over the old 'Warrington Player takes drugs' and 'I want Maguire in a wheelchair' stuff. I'm going to rip him every time he is on here until I'm banned. Soz.

| A lot of people have been saying that Kevin Sinfield was poor, is it just me or does Sean O'Loughlin look poor at International level, i can't remember seeing him have a good game.
If all our english players were available i'd say that this would be close to our strongest starting 17. I like Jamie Peacock as a person and he's been a great player but i think he's coming to the end of his career now and shouldn't be in the international team, i wouldn't have Sinfield or O'Loughlin in either. Not sure about Shenton either at this level, i'd go with Yeaman ahead of him as he's in form and playing well.
1. S Tomkins
2. Ben Jones Bishop
3. Chris Bridge
4. Kirk Yeaman
5. Jodie Broughton/Tom Briscoe
6. Jonny Lomax
7. Danny Brough
8. A Morley
9. Luke Robinson
10. James Graham
11. Ben Westwood
12. Sam Burgess
13. Gareth Ellis
14. James Roby
15. Joel Tomkins

| Went really well last night did Westwood. After Meli slam dunked Sam Tomkins, Benny was the only England player who was having none of it. I know he missed the initial impact, but the attempted smash on (Manu?) and the subsequent running back in for seconds, really lifted the game.
I dont think he is the smartest RL player in the world, but he is one of the most committed and brutal in the game.
Regards Peacock, i think it is time to call it a day now.

Can't do with some of them selections Rob.
For me McGillvarey(sp) has done enough to warrant selection. Widdop would get the stand-off shirt. Robinson is not going to worry the Anzacs and I think his "headless-chicken" running last night did England no favours - great against France counter-productive against good teams.
Whilst splitting hairs I'd have Burgess as 13 and Ellis at 12 so that Burgess would be my fourth prop (I notice Gallen has been picked at prop for NSW!!!!).
So off the top of my head:
1. Tomkins
2. Briscoe
3. Bridge
4. Yeaman
5. McGillvarey
6. Widdop
7. Brough

13. Burgess
14. Lomax
15. Harrison
16. Tomkins
17. Crabtree
I would worry about the lack of cover at hooker so may against my better judgement put Sinfield on teh bench in lieu of Lomax or maybe include Haughton there from Hull if I was certain Roby couldn't do the full eighty.

| Paul, do you not think that Ben Jones Bishop had shown a lot more X factor before his injury than McGillvary ? I agree that McGillvary's form warrants at least being picked for the squad, its just i'd prefer Ben Jones Bishop on all known form this year ahead of him. Its just you have him on the left wing when he's been on the right for Huddersfield, Jodie Broughton should be included in the squad if your going to rweard players on form, he's been shining through now for a couple of years in a very poor Salford side and he has genuine pace and looks strong near the line.
I think we agree on most things though especially that O'Loughlin and Sinfield shouldn't be in the squad as well as Jamie Peacock, the pack we picked is similar. On the point about Luke Robinson, he was one of very few of our players that caused the Australians problems in the 4 nations, he was very good again last night especially as he lacked a lot of support and 2nd phase runners for most of the game.

i dunno, i thought england were better with robinson on the field, and it all ground to a halt when mickey mac(god i feel stupid typing that) came on.
my worry is that mcgillvray is too much of a short to go up against the ockers.

I agree, like i was saying on the other page, Robinson actually caused Australia problems in the 4 nations and was one of very few players that could come home with their head held high. He's really improved over the last 2 years especially since Brough's arrival, he's done well for Huddersfield and England at hooker.

McGillvaray (how DO you spell his name?) would be bombed into oblivion. It is unfortunate, but a reality that 6' plus threequarters are a requirement of the international game, especially when you look at the height of the Aus threequarters.

| Sorry I'm not having this Robinson "love-in". I can see what people are saying about him being one of England's better performers last night and in the Four Nations but to me that's part of the problem: he looks good in a losing team. For me he is one of the reasons that it is a losing team.
I concede the twenty metre breaks from dummy half that usually come from about 30m out of our own line are good but I think he has a "Michael Sullivan"-ness about him when he goes off-script when the team are in a good attacking position leaving his "creative" half-backs looking lost and seeing the like of Myler having to go into acting half for the next two tackles whilst the play is set-up again only to find you're on last tackle with a defence not remotely stretched and ready to defend the last tackle option.
No doubt people will say Robinson was better than Buderous last night because Buderus wasn't as "showy" but there can be no doubt that Buderous' service to Chase and Leluai allowed them to shine as they knew exactly where the dummy-half service was going time after time.
