I love this particular argument..
You wouldnt say it to there face....
If I was disheartened enough with a player to write it on here.. Yes I would say it to his face..

| Quote ="lefty goldblatt"Three players previously mentioned
Martin Gleeson
No, sorry. Never got worse for me. Still the most talented out and out centre I've seen in the P&B
Kelly Shelford
I can see the issue, but that maybe due to the players around him.
Mark Roberts
Never in the life of man. This man was 100% in commitment, skill and allround play, every time he took the field
I think he played twice after his injury in '89 so you can't really say he declined
To use a football comparison (and those who'd remember him), Man City's Paul Lake. Had the world infront of him, destined for great things, then a career wrecking injury. Tried to comeback, but retired within a couple of years. Such a shame.'"
Come on lefty I'm one of Gleesons biggest fans but even I would admit Gleeson peaked in his first season. I am not saying he was bad after that, just that he didn't keep up the same standard. 2005 was the best year of his career and the impact he had on us that year was massive, for the first time in a decade we actually felt like contenders, we had not gone on a winning run like that for ages. Then in a friendly before the start of the next season he scored 5 against Salford and everybody was in awe saying this is one of the best centres in the world. After that, he was good rather than great.
Kelly Shelford - for me one of the biggest declines. Compare his form 1994 to 1997, even though there was a decline in players around him, his ability to influence a game just disappeared. In 1994 he was one of the cleverest players in the game but he just became zero influence by 1997. I remember him getting a LOT of stick from the terraces back then, but after he retired he passed back into the memory as a popular player because of his earlier spell.
As an aside I remember Paul Lake but I thought he was overhyped, he was probably ability wise about level with Stephen Ireland or Joey Barton, ie good enough to be an international, but the City fans used to talk about him like he was in Gascoigne class before his injury...

| Ian Sibbitt, he declined pretty badly.
He looked a decent prospect, was never the same player when he came back from Melbourne. I knew he was messed about a bit with his position, christ we played him on the wing on occasion, but he really did go downhill.
I'm not sure how fair it is, I'd also Rob Parker declined with us. He was never fantastic to begin with, but all the good things out of his game seemed to disappear, all you got left with was a decent work ethic and a funny bloke.

No idea, I didn't even know they existed to be honest.
It always makes me laugh when people say you can't post anything on here that you wouldn't say to the players faces.

To be fair.. Maybe there in the opinion that anyone who pulls on the P+B shirt must be He-man and therefore if you say anything to them youre in big trouble..
I find that when you are actually constructive and not just saying.. Your poop they take it quite well

| I'll add Mark Gleeson too, just never gained any size or skills. I thought when he came onto the scene he'd make a good hooker, he just never did. He was brave enough like.

| brendon tuuta, i was pleasantly surprised after being initially mortified at us signing him, he did well for the first 5 games then came the ill fated quins away game where he did his best to put the s up mark carroll, then his head went after that and reverted back to the dirty penalty conceding bast that i was expecting.

| Danny Lima and Rob Parker, both similar where they went from having good impact from the bench to virtually having no impact.
Basil Richards and Phil Sumner, they went from showing lots of early promise where they were being touted as the next Hanley and Boyd to just fading away, i know Sumner suffered from injuries.
Martin Crompton and Keith Holden, both were top quality in their early years with us but they should have achieved a lot more with their ability, i thought Crompton was going to be the next Andy Gregory. Both would have been top scrum halves in the SL era especially as we don't have many quality 7's in the game at the min.
Gary Mercer was another, he was superb for us just after he signed but faded away over time.

| Holden b0110xed his knee up, on a Swinton pot-hole and was never the same, afterwards. Big shame, as he was quality (and looked fantastic alongside John Woods)

| Paul Noone.
Forshaw tipped International status for him.
Now the poor sod plies his trade in the Asda Dandelion and Burdoch division or something!

| Danny Haliwell did well for us to be fair, though was well overhyped at the time.
Is my memory telling me the truth when it tells me we actually had a bucket collection to fund his permanent signing at the time?

I'm pretty certain that Joey was quite impressed with Noone also, when he was here they seemed to find each other with alarming regularity. It normally ended with little yardage and another tackle used.

Yes this is so, mind you compared to the rest of the diabolical team we then had, he was a superstar.

| Halliwell's defence wasn't great but he was quite quick. The back line we had at the time was pedestrian and had no strike threat, so putting Halliwell in there meant we at least had a bit of pace in the backs and someone who could score tries. He was popular with the fans and there was that talk about a bucket collection to try and sign him permanently because Plange seemed keen but when Cullen came in and he had already been recalled I got the impression Cullen wasn't interested. 8 tries in 10 games for us, that was the high point of his career. He only scored 4 tries in 4 seasons with Halifax.
