| As a United fan i`m totally gutted, Rafa was doing a great job at Liverpool and taking them in the right direction. With a few more Rafa type signings in the summer they could have finished 10th next season. Ahhhh well, it was good while it lasted.

I have my fingers crossed for Dalglish.......
you would like to think that if a player wasnt totally obsessed by money, they would jump at the chance to play for a manager that was arguablly one of the greatest players ever to lace up a a pair of football boots.

if not Dalglish then maybe Klinsmann or Keegan....

| Quote ="sally cinnamon"Most Newcastle fans saw the Bobby Robson era as quite successful!
I think this argument is overstated about being out of football for a long time. It is not as though Dalglish is some relic from a dinosaur era. He is watching the game every week, he is involved with people coaching at the top level, I doubt there is anybody who has his finger closer to the pulse of Liverpool FC than Dalglish does.
It was a bigger gamble to appoint Dalglish as Liverpool manager in 1985 when he was just 34 and had no experience of even managing a pub team never mind being told to manage the dominant team in England. Can you imagine Ferguson retiring next year and Man United appointing Ryan Giggs as manager and saying well he was a great player and will command respect.....because thats all Dalglish was appointed on at the time. It would be seen as outrageous.
Dalglish did a great job as manager and although its easy to say he had the best team, he also had the biggest expectations and to hold off the threats of a strong Everton and emerging Arsenal under George Graham. Then he went to Blackburn and did the business again, and I don't believe he did buy the title like people often say, he didn't buy any ready-made big name stars, even Shearer had question marks over his goalscoring record before he joined....he put together a team of British players who had shown potential at other clubs, who turned into top players under him, eg Flowers, Sherwood, Wilcox, Ripley, Le Saux.
I think there's some managers who just instinctively understand football and Dalglish comes into that category, they would be good managers in any era. If he goes back to Liverpool he will command respect without needing to alienate the dressing room to "show whos boss". It will be hard to challenge United and Chelsea in the short term because of financial restrictions however the Liverpool fans will be realistic in their expectations and I think they would all be behind Dalglish and he would be able at least to get Liverpool back into the Champions League spots and be a threat in the cup competitions, whilst being a uniting figure rather than a divisive figure which Benitez was.'"
Absolutely.
I think there's a few very good footballers at Liverpool who want a big arm put around them just now. I think there's a few more also who just want to start enjoying their football again foremost and get back to playing with a smile on their faces and with freedom which has been missing largely for the last five years (the exception being second half of 08/09 when they were very good).
Dalgish will get them playing attractive football, he understands what the fans want to see, what brand of football and in the transfer market he'll also understand well the type of footballers that Liverpool want and also the type of characters Liverpool want - he's well versed on the history of the club and ready & able to ensure that all potential targets are briefed on the expectations within the club and from the community etc.
He'll command less of a salary than the likes of Klinsmann and I just see him as the natural fit just now to be honest.
The 'out of football' thing, well, managers don't coach do they being honest. I'm sure he'll surround himself with a very 'current' backroom & assistant and they'll help with that. He's got a good eye for a decent player (at Newcastle when sacked he'd already signed a young Given, Speed etc ...
It would be pleasing to see a 'football man' back in football too, not only that, a rarity in that a bloke who is passionate about football and the club he manages.

| And Wire fans say they're not "plazzy Scousers" ............ seems there are plenty of bin-dippers on this thread .
Very sad to see Rafa go, was taking the dippers to new depths. Lived off the fact you robbed the CL in 2006 for far too long. TBH, reslly don't think bringing Dalglish back would be the answer.

LFC prided themselves on a closed shop for years but Rafa's spats with the owners in public to try to get the fans on side may have worked in his mind but ruined the reputation of the club i have loved for nearly 35 years (Birthday on Saturday if anyone wants to send me a card). he had plenty of money and bought rubbish or bought well then sold them (Crouch) or lost them due to bad management (Alonso). yes the Yanks have racked up the debt but for me Benitez has used them as a smoke screen. Yanks out next too please too
Thank god Wires have got better so my life is not all doom & gloom'"
ruined the reputation of the club
Yes the two CL finals didn't help at all, stupid Rafa and the other finals and numerous semi's what the hell was he thinking.

| What I don't get about wendyball number 3006:
A) A bunch of players is signed to a team ( Liverpool )
B) These players fail to earn the team qualification for the Champions League
C) These same players then say they want to leave to play for a team that is in the Champions League
Now, explain to me, isn't (C) the result of bad play in (B)? Are these same players not to blame?

Technically true...but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.... Hey, maybe that was the problem, he brought in so many Spaniards nobody could understand Stevie G's scouse accent.

I've followed Liverpool for well over 30 years and i love talking about our glorious history but no cups since 2006 is no good for us especially when the Mancs will come on and list all their trophies since then. If a semi final (not numerous) & final of CL makes you happy then that is your opinion but i want leagues and a good run in the FA Cup and not to beaten by reserve teams in Carling Cups and play in the CL not the Wafer Europa League. His tinkering and big mouth cost us the league in 2008-2009 with his outburst at the owners (maybe justified but not the Liverpool way) & Fergie. Too many LFC fans are still living on 2005 (yes probably one of the greatest days of my life being there). We need to wake up and realise we are a country mile behind Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, City. Rafa has spent more money than Utd, Arsenal & Spurs during his time in charge so i still can't understand his poverty claims. He bought Crouch who was then top scorer and then sold him so he could play one of the worlds best midfielders out of position. His line ups last year were shocking with only Reina playing in their strongest positions in some games (ok i am going a little over the top on that).
its just a shame only fans of other clubs can see what i speak is true and not my own supporters. We are a laughing stock.

Burning Old Glory?
Absolute dikheads, the lot of them. I don't like the Yank owners being in charge, but I'm not about to go burning the American flag.
Quite surprised that FOX News hasn't picked up on that though. Normally anything to do with defacing Old Glory, they will be there quicker than a fly to a newly laid turd.
