| Its like watching a tv game back on video when you get home from the game. At the match you're absolutely certain that the ref has just performed the most biased, one-sided refereeing job seen by man. Watching it back on video you find out that the highly trained, professional officials who are 100 times closer to incidents than yourself were 9 times out of 10 correct.
See we won the penalty count though - he couldn't have been so bad.

I didn't mean biased reffing, tbh I wasn't at the game. I was just referring to all-round poor performances.

You and I agreeing again
I now have a policy of not criticising referees at televised games. As you say, when you go back home and watch the incidents again you can almost guarantee that the refs decision was correct.

| Quote ="Mass Effect"There is no point. Referees could commit first degree murder on the field of play and Cummings would still back them to the hilt.'"
Cummings is a joke, he is weak and will back wrong decisions to the hilt, he was a poor referee himself. Since he has been in charge the standard of refereeing has gone down and down.
As much as I hate to say it Ganson is the best of a bad bunch, mind you with all the camera angles he has to look at he still gets video ref decisions wrong.
I wonder some times if all the referees are reading the same rule book, I think some of them are making up the rules as they go along.
Until Cummings is out of the way there will be no improvement in the standard of refs.

| Watching Silverwood last night was hard to comprehend. Players were, at times, lying on for what seemed an eternity and then two or three plays later he was penalising players when they had hardly completed the tackle.
I thought in the second half Leeds seemed to take a more sportsmanlike approach and try and do the same as Melbourne had in the first half.
As well, did anyone hear what Cameron Smith said after the melee that followed the tackle by Adam Blair. Silverwood didn't seem to indicate that it was a penalty, it was only once it kicked off that he gave Leeds the penalty.

| PY is right. They are right most of the time, almost all of the time. RFL say no case to answer on the spear which is what I said at the time. It was momentum which took him over. Louis Anderson's karate chop on the neck of somebody (Graeme Horne?) was nasty though.

There were no punches thrown, handbags at 5 paces. Could argue that Brown could may be penalised for delaying a quick tap but I think Smith may have considered that the words "a quick 20m tap" and "Warrington have taken" have never appeared in the same sentence in the last 30 years when making the decision.

| I'm a little surprised to see that the most obvious offence that was missed has yet to be mentioned.
When King made his interception, he was takled by two defenders. When he was trying to regain his feet, Lawrence (I think) came in from the side and knocked him back to the ground. In a normal situation, it could be argued that there were many bodies in play, making his view obscured. This was in isolation, with a clear view, made even worse that the TJ was even closer to the situation.

I guess it just comes down to what you call a punch and what you call handbags. I'm guessing from your avatar that we have different standards when it comes to classifying punches.

Fair enough - though it remains that fans will always see the penalties not given against their side but not the 50/50 decisions that go against them...

Probably because the tackle was that late Silverwood was watching play & it was only when the melee kicked off he got the report off his touch judge?
Maybe I'm in a minority of one, but I enjoyed the biff & physicality of last night's game & am quite prepared to overlook a few seconds lying on each tackle to get the defences reset... If England/GB want to compete properly with the Aussies, that's the way the game will be played in internationals over the next few years...

| In my opinion the touch judges are scared of making any decisions, even when they do flag for something they dont have much conviction. Its almost like they fear challenging the refs judgement, ie they may think the ref has chosen to ignore an incident so dont bother flagging when in fact the ref may not have seen the incident at all so it goes unpunished.
I think the touch judges should flag anything and everything that they deem to be foul play without hesitation.
As for Mylers 'try', if its true that the IGT gave it but was then overruled by someone who wasn't in position to even make the decision then thats pathetic. If video evidence confirms that it was a try and the IGT was infact correct then the ref should be disciplined. Its basically saying that the ref thinks the IGT was incapable of doing his job so chose to ignore him.

| There was a time when the referees were held in high esteem by players and fans alike. Typically the professionalism of the sport has seen an upsurge in player skills and a down turn in judgement by officials. I can't to see which mind numbingly half baked loon we get for Sunday's game

Done that a few times myself. Called the referee rotten for giving decisions against us, one of those "heat of the moment" things. When you get back and re-watch the game after the disappointment of defeat, you look at it and think "oh yeah, he was right with that one.......and that one.....and that one. wasn't such a bad performance after all".
Hence the reason I've not yet commented on Silverwood's actions in the Wigan game, as I've not managed to re-watch it as yet. As we've seen with that buffoon Ritchie Mylers Parrot, if you focus on something blindly without re-watching the game first, you'll look like a complete tool.

| Quote ="Geordie"Maybe you need to understand the officials signals to get a grip on what is actually going on in a game.
The in goal judge that you are on about, gave the try by standing up straight and still with his arms tight by his side. Ian Smith simply overuled him. How that can be when the IGJ was in front of Myler and had a perfect view compared to smith who was a couple of meters behind him is simply perplexing.'"
Spot on that Geordie. Can't remember a ref overuling the IGJ before but I expect it has happened. The IGJ had a perfect view and for Smith to disallow it without consulting him was bizarre. Wonder if Mr Campbell might be prompted to view this? Somehow I very much doubt it.
