That would make sense. I was hoping something would be announced today but it will probably be a few weeks now which will eat into the preparation time for next season as well as hampering our (scarce) opportunities for recruitment.

This just gets worse. No coach yet and likely one half-back who's spent most of his career at bottom of the table clubs.

Should we write off 2018 now and save our money for 2019? Maybe licensing will be back by then and we won't have to worry about the middle 8s next year.

I suppose if madge is going to come to the UK, it would only be to Wigan if the option is there. IF he is considering it, Wigan would not be doing themselves justice if they wouldn't consider it.

The Wigan squad may not be as good as it was during his first spell, but as long as O'Loughlin is still there and the youth system keeps producing these quality backs, they'll win Super League again under Maguire. I'd be surprised if he came over with all the comments about wanting to remain in Sydney but I guess the money will talk.

I personally wouldn't want to break the bank on Maguire as good as his record is... I'd rather take a chance on Pay and see what he can do once we have let him rebuild the squad over the next 12 months. Plenty of experience working with bringing youth through.

Brennan is my conspiracy theory...Pay is the tip off.

Pay being interviewed at the Dogs today: having Dog DNA he'd have to mess up big time not to get the gig.

Do you honestly think a new coach will be your saviour short term? Give him 3 years and maybe so.Thats the price you will pay.

Looks more and more likely that Pay will be offered the Canterbury gig and by all accounts Maguire has rejected our offer.

I'm still hopeful on Brennan but have a feeling we'll have to settle on Steve Price.

So if it does end up being Price, we will have to 'settle' for the current NRL Premiers assistant coach?

Just from reading several releases online from media and other sources to be honest.

Seems plenty of people were told/got wind that Pay was successful at interview but then Hasler was sacked and its now become apparent that he interviewed today with Canterbury. Bookies over in Sydney have him as firm favourite. Let's face it, if it comes to a decision between us and Canterbury we aren't coming out on top.

Its also been widely reported that Maguire has already turned us down for whatever reason, seemingly as he wants to remain in Sydney.

Finally, Betfred had Price as favourite before closing the book. Could be nothing in that but I'm making the assumption that they've heard something on the grapevine.

From everything I've read, I'd like to see Brennan but guess time will tell.

I meant "settle" in terms of him not being first choice. I don't know anything about Price. I do know he was highly regarded as a coach and think it was Wayne Bennett who recommended him to St George.

From all accounts he didn't last at St George and also didn't last long in charge of Somoa but I don't know any reasons why etc.

the thing with Price is he was also Assistant coach when St George won the 2010 grand final. It was trumpeted as great appointment when he took over the top job from Bennett.

unfortunately he had a 36% win ratio and st George simply turned to .

I dont want him to come to Warrington and simply prove he is an Aussie version of Steve Mcnamara... Ok as an assistant but never a head coach...

Not reading the whole thread so apologies if this has already been put out there, but been told Dave Furner. From someone who is employed in the game and has hit the mark in the past (but not always..).

Just get Noble in its simple sack off all the Aussies because they will all play the homesick card when an offer comes in

The idea of Noble as head coach is unpalatable.

His last two coaching assignments have been disasters at Wigan and Salford.

Half a squad with stories of players want out.
Top players not wanting to touch us with a kings ransom threw at them.

That sounds like the rugby league equivalent of a nuclear winter Duck .

Perhaps not Kear, but the longer our apparent search goes on and with our top targets allegedly holding out for other posts, I’m beginning to wonder whether we should be looking a bit closer to home.
