| Quote ="Teessidewire"With that post, neither have you. I was told by Miss Brophy, at AHCGS, that I should never start a sentence with the word 'And.'
I was at the Taekwando (probably misspelt) yesterday and the atmosphere was brilliant. The only thing that spoilt it was the daft bint who kept demanding that everyone 'make some noise,' between fights. I also went to the Marathon this morning, and that was even better. Each and every runner got massive encouragement in conditions that were terrible for such a race.'"
You do when you start a sentence.

I would have loved to have been there, glad your ticket went to somebody who appreciated it.'"
Ta. I applied for every athletics session at various price ranges in the ballot last year and got four pairs, but they were all for different sessions at least two days apart and the price meant I couldn't really afford to keep them all anyway so I kept the best pair for my dad and I and sold the rest to mates at face.
£295 a ticket like, so hardly a bargain but once in a lifetime.

I've got a young family, so couldn't justify the expense. A day trip to the capital to watch sport on the 25th though, that's paid for.

Yeah, must admit to filling up every time I hear sycophantic Coe aswell.
Another part of the great lie machine. Opening bid ( beating Paris btw) of £2.8 billion, current running cost of £9.2 billion.( oops, forgetting to add VAT to the opening bid).
those who pay tax and poll/council tax will be paying for that. Greece was the pointer, the UK will go the same way.
Fair play to the Olympians who took part, it's not their fault, but how many hospitals, medicines and forigein (sic) aid will this actually cost in the long run?

I think Greece's recent financial woes actually have more to do with their population being a bunch of tax-dodgers, rather than paying for their Olympics.
Has for paying extra council tax, well I'd quite happily pay a little extra for something that provided such pleasure for the majority of the population.....Surely only the same as paying that bit extra to fund a town's football or rugby stadium??...

If they took £5 a month from my paypacket for the next year as a charge for the Olympics, I'd consider it a bargain given the entertainment and feel-good factor of the last fortnight.

| A mate of mine txt me on Thursday saying that he was in the Stadium when the 800 metres record was broken and he was just waiting for the 200 metre final. It was all corporate (the company I retired from four yeas ago) of course as they had taken clients. Lucky barsteward.
Last night he txt to say he was outside the stadium listening to The Who and Take That doing their sound checks.

The answer is : none. The money would NEVER have been channeled into general good causes, and you're deluded if you think it would have been. These Olympics have been a sensational advert for GB, which will pay off in billions extra in tourism revenue over the next ten years. Even without that, the national solidarity which has emerged amongst this country's citizens is worth the cost on its own.
Be miserable if you insist, but keep it to yourself as the rest of us are a tad more positive. Jeez, you do a good impression of a Pie board moderator.

| It really is too early to say what the legacy of these games will be. We may all feel warm and fuzzy now but we are in the middle of a double dip recession with unemployment and under employment in key areas stagnating... we'll see if that warmth can last another 3 months.
The cost isn't too huge, considering our debts, and I'm sure if many people who should pay tax and don't would (Vodaphone, Google, Philip Green etc) we'd be in a better position.
We certainly can't deny that the games have been a success, and so it can't be designated a 'waste of money'. Plus, there may be a sudden, temporary uptake in kids participating in sport. However, let's just give it time. Rome wasn't built in a day, a Grand final isn't won in May and a Britain's morale isn't saved in a fortnight.

bang on...Seeing the Union Jack waved by all and sundry has been a brilliant sight. so much better than seeing the cross of st george hanging out of council house windows every two years. And the red tops thinking the whole country is behind the nations soccer team.
the games has shown that we are a fantastic sporting nation and hopefully it has opened a lot of peoples eyes up to the fact that there are many alternatives to that sport that gets rammed down our throats every week.
I have been blown away by the games and at first I was very much a sceptic.
The Games had everything that football can never be. True winners true champions, unassuming grafters, and sportsman and women with dignity.
The only bit of football type behaviour I saw was from the italian superheavy weight who took defeat to Anthony Joshua like a big a big fat Italian Fairy.
I cant see any negatives from the games at all.
