Totally agree, the game has been officiated well tonight. VR a bit slow but that's minor compared to what we have seen in the first 2 rounds.

| Nice try for Thewlis. King and Currie did well.
We have wasted possession this half but a good win.
Dufty well earned MOM

Agreed although I think Currie and Fitzgibbon were also fantastic. Special shout out to Leon Hayes too, an excellent effort in attack and defence and some nice work from Drinkwater in the first half.

Better second half but I was annoyed to see him drift in towards the attacking centre leaving Senior to score out wide.

| Quote ="fez1"What pleases me so far as much as anything in that first half is that we've conceded NO (a big fat ZERO) penalties.
No penalties for 10m offside
No penalties for not playing the ball correctly
No penalties for markers not being square
No penalties for head high shots
No penalties for dissent
This must be the first time we've gone through a half like that!
Certainly I can't remember one in all my years of watching.
Vaughan immense as usual.
Interesting the subtle changes we did after they scored. Slightly deeper and timing slightly better. Small margins.'"
Second half - disappointing if I'm honest. We got sloppy.
Thewlis had a poor game imo with several dropped balls and some defensive issues, but I wonder how much that early head knock took out of him.
I've been concerned about the shots he's taken since he joined the 1st team.
By comparison Ashton rarely seems to get hit in that way.
Dufty was good, and again Currie, Harrison, Walker, Hayes all did well.
Ratch showed his worth - again.

| A few errors BUT overall a pleasing performance. Thought Hayes was great he's certainly not one to be overawed. Early days but we do look a lot more balanced as a squad in comparison to recent seasons and it seems a bit of team spirit.

| While it wasn’t a perfect display it was good to see the attack looking more refined. No doubt getting used to the game plan coming more naturally and the combinations becoming more familiar with each other. Pitch not being a total quagmire probably helped as well.

Yes true. All round improvement from last week.
Hayes not looking out of place at all.
Thewlis to work on defensive decision making.

| Drinkwater picked up a knock to his thigh by the sounds of things. Could see Hayes and Ratchford at half back next week. Hope Wrench is fit to take a centre spot if that’s the case although Lindop or Currie would play there if needed.

| Apart from missing that kick I think Thewlis completed the game of rugby league tonight
Dropped balls
Missed tackled
Got a whack on the head
Scored a try
Saved a try
Got dragged into touch scoring a try
All lessons, we won and he'll learn from it.

| Thewlis had an off night but still did a lot of good things. I'll spare him criticism for that one.
Currie was fantastic, his best game for us for absolutely ages IMO. I like him at LF.
The 2 most encouraging things for me are: that our discipline was really good throughout and that we have improved week on week so far this season. There are improvements to be made and theres a lot more to come, but we are heading the right way. We have a big test next week for our defence and attack, so we will have to be better again.

| Currie had a bizarre night, started at loose, did a stint as an out n out prop, then finished playing at right centre, he was very good, I'm wondering if burgess is making it clear he's expecting a lot more from him as a senior player.
I'm liking fitzgibbon, our purple patch in the first half came from him and turning with quick passes and people running in and around him, drinkwater was very active as well

I thought he did OK but was behind Vaughan and Harrison for me Phil in also did well so overall no complaints.
Maybe it's a reputation thing but does anyone think Musgrove will be targeted by the WUMs

| I have not watched the game back but I am pretty sure that we had a spell in the second half when
A) musgrove came off and Powell came on meaning our middle was Philbin, Currie and Powell. Then
B) Philbin comes off for Max wood and our three middle forwards are Wood, Currie and Powell
now did anybody think that we would win a game with even a 5 minute spell when our middle 3 were Max Wood, Ben Currie and Sam Powell.
Then it gets even more bizarre as Drinkwater comes off and is replaced by Vaughan. With Currie going to right centre and Ratchford to halfback.
Now that is where I think Sam Burgess is taking the mickey a bit. He has basically said to those players no matter who is on the pitch and no matter what position you play in the defensive system works and it did.
Now no matter what happened with dropped balls etc that team played unbelievably well as a defensive system whoever was on the pitch. It wasn't fancy and it wasn't exciting but it was effective and credit to all the players and the coaching staff because I have not seen that cohesion for at least 10 years.
Credit to them all.

| Built some pressure finding repeat sets too. Something I’ve been critical of is kicking dead from close range grubbers, but none of that last night.
Dufty really put himself about. Walker looked lovely. Currie superb.

| Some good signs, I thought, against a Cas team who were better than I had expected and scored a very nice opening try. Our attack was notably better, and I echo what others have said about Dufty and Currie being excellent. I wonder if Thewlis' off night has something to do with him having a new baby at home? It's a big life change for a young lad.
