| Quote ="Ron"Who was it who made a good point, either Carney or Clarke... that most rugby players aren't going to watch many other rugby games live, so its difficult for them to judge who has had a great season.'"
It was Carney and I thought at the time what a good point that was. Especially since, before that Sky game had started I saw a player on Twitter saying he wasn't watching the game as he'd had enough RL for the weekend. So how much of the player's votes are influenced by what is written in the media? Or say by the comms team on the Sky games they do watch? Certainly it's not a balanced view but then it's impossible to have a balanced player-voted award as no player can watch every game. Unless you make them sit and watch videos during every week ![IDEA a046.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//a046.gif)

| Quote ="Andy Wire"I'm sure I read somewhere over the last couple of days that it is decided on Monday.
As it's decided by players what will they consider - who tackles the hardest consistently, who causes the most problems defensively, who reads the game the best in both attack and defence, who confuses the feck out of them the most with and without the ball???? Looking at that I can't see passed Monas and Tompkins.
After typing all that i've now thought surely they can't consider anything like that cos Richards won last year for falling over the try line the most along with superb goal kicking!!'"
So Richards won it last year for falling over the try line and for his goal kicking? As you say, the award is decided by the players of the game....they must have got it wrong hey?!!! Maybe a fairer way of doing it is to ask the sky sports viewers, after all YOU could get a vote and YOU seem to know alot more about the game than the players themselves!!!

I think Dire supporters think they give Eddie and Stevo a ring regarding their players ![ASK icon_ask.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_ask.gif)

Brian Carney, you know that ex rugby league player who talks alot with current players, probably knows a bit more about players viewing habits than you.
There is a difference between being shown lines players run, set plays, kicks and wrestling techniques (the type of thing players are shown).... and actually watching a game live and getting a good indication of who is playing well for 80 mins.

I was about to make this point, but you beat me to it!
Players might not watch the games live, but the in-depth research they do on opposition players probably puts them in a much better position to comment on their contemporaries than us or the media.

| MM to win it. Players will be making their choices based on the opponents they play against and gauging who they think puts in the best performances and is most influential in destroying them. MM beats ST in that respect easily. It doesn't come down to tries scored, or headlines grabbed, its who makes the biggest impact.

| I've not read through this read, but when is it decided? If it's after the Grand Final and we win it, then surely it's got to be Monaghan, as he'll no doubt have been instrumental in us getting there and has been magnificent all season.

Cross better than Ah Van? Cross doesn't kick goals and as we know goal kicking is how you win MOS, see 2010.

The awards are in the week leading up to the GF usually.

| If I told you that one player has scored the most tries this season, is second in meters made, has made 50+% more tackle busts than anyone else, and has made 66% more clean breaks than anyone else, putting aside petty bias I would suggest that he was the best player this season.

| 3 players in it for me. Sam Tomkins, James Roby and Michael Monaghan.
Any one of the those players would be a worthy MOS in my opinion.

| Lets hope people have more imagination than just looking at who finishes top and picking a player from the top team.
Sometimes its the guys at the lesser teams that are making a bigger impact on those teams rather than just riding on the coat tails of a dominant unit, that's why for me its Tomkins or Roby.

| Again - not sure what it's judged on, but if you were awarded 'points' for each round of the 27 of SL then Roby (in an injury-hit Saints side), Chase (in an inconsistent Cas side) and Monas (directing the 2011 League winners around the park).
Tomkins is a superb talent but for all his brilliance he just does stupid things and needs to grow up (eg 2 fingered gesture at Wembley). I've no doubt he'll win MOS in the future but not this year. He needs to cut out the 'stupidity'.

And if I told you that one team this season is second in both the 'Errors' (one one error behind the leader) and the 'Missed Tackles' tables you'd think they'd had a pretty poor season.
If it was as easy as look at the statistics then present the award then why bother with a vote.
Lies, damn lies and statistics.
