They probably think its a past warrington Wolves match worn shirt from 94 as per the sellers description of which it aint, the person thats bid maybe someone thats not as clued up as most Wire fans and they may follow us from elsewhere in the country and they presume its one of our past away kits and a piece of our past history.

Crewe wolves, that logo wasn't used until super league started in 96.

We've never played in anything like that, thank God. The nearest we've had to it was the red and green away kit that was about 1994. At that time Greenalls were always the main shirt sponsor. This shirt looks an absolute dud to me.

Well remembered, i`d forgot about them. With not having seen them play i had no idea what kit they used and that they also used our club badge.

I remember the connection with Chester but again i didn`t have a clue what kits they would have used, its obviously fairly modern with a sponsor on the rear of the shirt and a fairly modern Stag design which you see a similar style around a fair bit in the amatuer game.

Rob. Just made a check, Crewe Wolves were not established until 1999, so if it's them, it certainly isn't a 1994 shirt.

It looks a modern Stag design as i remember that design as amatuer teams used a very similar design also by Stag, also it has modern numbering and a sponsor on the rear. It probably is Crewe Wolves from around 99 or Chester Wolves, that would fit with the style of shirt, rear logo and numbering as it was around at that time.

Looks like you're right. The sponsor is based in Staffordshire and covers the Crewe area.

Just looked on Wikipedia. What were Crewe Wolves are a bit nearer home than we thought. They haven moved several times over the years and are now Lymm RL and based at Lymm RUFC. It also confirms they play in red and black.

Pretty certain it is Crewe Wolves. I used to play for them and that is the style/colours they used, also used by Chester Wolves but the sponsor is the giveaway.

It just says Wolves on the crest unlike ours which says Warrington Wolves, another giveaway.

The bottom line is the seller is misleading (I think- if not dismiss) but he is selling it as a WARRINGTON wolves shirt.

really glad i found this thread, as i saw that shirt myself, and wondered when the hel Warrington were playing in Stag kit and sponsored by a fiat garage. My first reaction was that it looks like something out of the conference league.... and it seems i was right!

so who copied who as far as the club badge is concerned.

the seller seems to have amended the item so that there is now no mention of Warrington. And only 14 people have visited it so he must have relisted it. Also, the £20 bid has gone.

Interesting question though re the badge - who was the first to use it - us, or one of our mini-franchises ?

We also used a simplified Wolves crest when playing as Warrington IMBRL in the NW Counties a few years ago (although the wording said Warrington IMBRL). I asked Andy Gatcliffe for permission to use it as a modified version. The kit was primarily yellow with blue stripes on the shorts and shoulders.

I found my number 3 shirt and shorts in my drawer down the back the other day!!! I looked like a porn star with those shorts on though, a bit tight nowadays lol
