| Don't forget Smith...he loved him! Not saying he can't be rated highly...just IMO he's thought of a bit too highly. Farrell was a much better player. As an aside in his last 3 games he's been absolutely abysmal but he went on to win a GF and represent his country....so legend he is.

| Quote ="ratticusfinch"Shows how low our game has sunk that SOL is considered a LEGEND! Very good player yes but not fit to lace Farrell or Sculthorpes boots. I dont think hes injured either....he got the hook from Bennett due to three consecutive errors led to a try. Cant be a legend (in a forward capacity) if your tackling technique has been consistently suspect at best. Wildly overrated IMO.'"
I agree with this entirely. In my opinion a very over rated player, who is a good grafter and captain, but that's it. Has got away with more offences at the disciplinary tribunals than any other player I can remember.

| I won't bang on as I'm not saying SOL has made a career out of being getting a favourable deal from commentators. However, if we look at last Saturday after his poor kick it was treated as 'unlucky right idea' by the commentators, twenty seconds later his lazy penalty was ignored....as was 40 seconds later when their centre waltzed through a gap he'd left wide open. Now imagine another player had made those errors - theyd be caned in the commentary box and on the internet yet for him....nothing!

| He's been a very good player not sure about legend status, it's probably a bit overused like world class IMO. However, if Wigan fans think he's a legend then that's their business as it would be ours when judging one of our own?
Would I have him at Wire next year? Not for me he's definitely on the wane, it happens to all players, but his excellence is based on being a pivotal force and I'm not convinced he's got that in him (cue a GF winning performance 2019 GRRR!!!)

| I would not consider sol in the same division as A Farrell but he has definitely been a standout player, genuinely think his body is shot and has been very carefully managed by Wane over the last couple of seasons. Don't think there is enough left for me to want to sign him for next season. But then I wondered why we signed B Hodgson!

I'm in the same boat aswell, i don't get and have never understood the hype around him to be honest. He's just a better than average player that consistantly plays at that level. Good squad player though and clearly well thought of, he's just not for me.

I was quite happy with BMM for a first season, I'm expecting more next year although to be fair he's not a legend

From what I'm told he was never interviewed as he turned down our approach.

Not sure if this is a good point or not? No question that in a number of the games he played BMM was far from fit.

| On topic, I think next season is very difficult to call eg Saints, lost Barba but should have Walmesley back, and a couple of interesting signings from Oz. We have another new halfback, but look like we need another one as well. Leeds have a re build in progress, that could go either way. Wigan, new (short term) coach, lost some important players, currently I think they will struggle but I presume there are some signings to come. So too early for any prediction from me... I'm just off to remove the splinters from my backside.

| SOL's injury record (of the 26 appearences most of them were short cameos from the bench) and the fact his body is shot is accomdated by Wigan because he can still do what very few modern forwards can - time a pass and put a player through a gap.
No, I wouldn't have him at Wires now, mainly because in Currie we have a player with even better handling ability but most of the forwards who are lauded these days couldn't time a pass if the ball was fitted with a clock.

| Quote ="Lord Tony Smith"Not sure about that. They still have a good team and lots of talented players. They've recruited the best out of all the SL teams so far in signing Loholea, Hurrell and Merrin. Three players who would walk into every SL team in my opinion. They still have players like Walker, Watkins, Briscoe, Parcell, Cuthbertson, Ward even Myler is a decent player.
I can see Furner having a similar impact as Price did. I was surprised Leeds managed to get him. He's one of if not the most highly thought of coaches in the NRL.'"
Disagree. Lolohea is really nothing special, he was playing reserve grade for most of last year and is a fair bit overweight. He’s also not what Leeds needed when they’ve got Myler who doesn’t have the ability to control a game. Hurrell was great when he first burst onto the scene but he’s been poor for a long time. I don’t understand the reaction to his signing at all, he’s become a centre who doesn’t really pass or score many but just looks to charge it in and isn’t very good defensively. Trent Merrin was world class at St George but since going to Penrith he’s also been poor. However I think he’s the best out the 3. They could all end up being good signings as I think they’re better players than they’ve been showing but it reeks of 3 players coming for big money contracts that they can’t get in the NRL. I’m not sure the majority of players who you mention are great either, Walker is massively overrated, Ward is injured all the time, Briscoe isn’t great, Cuthbertson was really poor last year (most Leeds fans agree), Watkins’ injury is one that is difficult to properly overcome and Leeds want rid of Parcell. Also, Furner really isn’t a great coach. He was poor at Canberra which is why he hasn’t got a top job since. The only reason he’s come over is because he hasn’t got a choice if he ever wants to become an NRL head coach again. All that being said the standard of SL is so low that a few more signings and they’ll probably finish top 5.

I must be mistaken as I recall them being the first to defeat Saints in 2018 and getting pipped at the Bin Dipper Dome 34-30.
Wakefield finished 5th in SL and have invested in props. Something Saints haven't done, that being the biggest area of fail for Saints.

Oh well that must mean they’ll come second the season after, great logic. And investing in props is great but not when they’re George King and Craig Kopczak. And why would we need to invest in props when we have Alex Walmsley, Luke Thompson, Matty Lees, LMS and Luke Douglas? I’d be more worried about your own props, Lama Tasi is a comical signing.
