| My all time favourite has to be the little shed building that masquerades as a chippy just by the Cantilever bridge. I went for the first time in years a few weeks ago and the fish and chips were superb. Not changed much in the last forty years.

| I used to always go to the Cantilever but the last few times I went, it wasn't too good. I now go either Panny's, Big Blue or occasionally The Orford Fryer.
Saying that, I went for a Chinese from the The Stockton Fryer on Saturday and had chips from there for the first time and they were good.

| make a note, if you're in latchford way, give Gino's on thelwall lane a bang, after being woeful as Neptune after kim long's shut its re-opened and seems to be a bit different, including bolognase on chips which is pretty good.

| Hate vinegar and living down here I've not had the gravy option so I have curry sauce, the chips down here though are crap, there's a decent chippy in Muswell Hill and an ok one here in Barnet on Bells Hill other than that garbage

From what I recall there is in the Penketh Area: Harrys on Warrington Road Opposite the big Co-Op.
Yuans on the Square, Honiton Way and Wing Fat on Warrington/Penketh Road near Tesco Express.
There is also Golden City (Sankey Bridges and Barrowhall Lane, Gt Sankey) the Dragon In opposite the Butchers Arms, and the Trawlerman near Coach and Horses... Not sure if Ackies near Sankey Railway Station is still going!

Harrys is still ok ..... Dragon Inn is good for Chinese meals & stuff (do the proper big sized greasy Chop Suey rolls to order ) but chips are a bit hit n miss; depends what mood they're in ...... Ackies has gone - shame as it did cracking pizzas delivered for half what Dominos charge for their dross - Ackies sadly to be replaced by a corporate franchise (possibly Top Burger - don't care as they're all dog doo on a tasteless bun).

Golden City is okay, the Trawlerman is utter shiiite, best one on Liverpool Road is Summer Palace.
Ackies is still going, pretty decent if you want a burger or garlic bread/pizza etc. Though there is a place next to the Anmol that is okay too, name escapes me though. It's also next to the new Jenerics takeout place.

| the Harrys that used to be just along from The bourough arms next to the decorating shop was by far the finest chip shop in the world. I spent my first pay packet on Chips and Sausage in there and then washed it down in the Packet house with a lager and Lime
happy days.. top chipper and top pub (thanks Fodens for buying it and turning it to a "trendy" pub)
harrys has now become a chinese eatery I havent stepped foot in there it doesnt look great.... so many chinese "chip shops" seem to think half cooked chips given a turbo boost in hot fat is cooking fresh chips. No cook your chips and when fully cooked put them in that tray and wait for people to ask for them.
Dragon city in latchford is an exception, they do decent chips....
and the one i cant believe no one has mentioned is Westy's... finest Chinese takeaway by a distance and decent chips combine the two and bingo....

| May I also humbly mention Gastronomic (Marsh House Lane)
They part-fry the chips, then, when someone actually turns up into the shop, they blast them until fully cooked, then shake the oil off, so you've actually got "fresh" chips, and they've not sweated in that compartment where 99% of chippies store their "ready to go" chips in. They're excellent chips in there.

| I used to go that one on Knutsford Road after a session in town. Can't remember it's name, and I never had the chips so I don't know if they were any good, but I was passionately in love with the girl who served behind the counter.
Gorgeous in her Rugby Leaguer top, the light off the soft drinks machine used to make her eyes sparkle divinely as she tossed sausages. She was the Julie Christie of the batter world.
I used to turn up in my Wires top hoping our eyes would meet and we could discuss the merits of Rocky Turner over the crackle of the cod frying. Alas, she broke my heart and I've never eaten fish and chips since, though I have been veggie for 26 years so can't blame doomed romance for that.

Completely agree HY, anaemic under cooked floury chips down here from the chippies. There is the occasional good chippy but they charge a fortune.

| Just had a Harry's
Half rice half chips gravy. Rice very salty, had ham, spring onion in. Chips were very nice, gravy was ok but too much was poured over it.
Billy had half rice half chips sausage and meat pie. He is now a sleep. Review later when he wakes.
Alex had fish chips peas. Not as nice as the golden fryer on dam lane Woolston
Overall 7/10

| After living in Hull for three years I can't enjoy fish and chips round here any more. We live in Sankey and there is no decent traditional chippers that spring to mind within a reasonable distance however Yuans on the square does a good Chinese.
