After this season doesn't he have 1 more as part of a 3 year contract with Bath & the RU ?
But if he's publicly saying he's had enough of Union and wants to return to League then Bath will, like you say, sell him sooner rather than later. Seems daft not to.

It isn't a question of discipline. It is the mindset of an individual who patently has no team ethic. I don't recall that ever being levelled at Briers.

| He will come back and there will be no shortage of takers, we don't need him and for that reason alone it's enough. Personally I think he'll take about half a season to get up to scratch and the be the Eastmond of old which tbf is a very good player but the Eastmond of old is also a biscuit boned, self interested, petulant child.

| I'd take him in a heartbeat. Its one of those where if we dont sign him, we will probably later regret it when he is playing for one of our rivals. He has played for England in Union so he must be doing something right over there and with a bit of coaching under Smith he could be brilliant for us. and we would have a very young and exciting back line that will last us for years!

| My first reaction was don't touch with a bargepole but having thought about this I would be up for signing Eastmond if Smith felt he could work with him and if he could fit in with the squad. We have got guys like Grix, Westwood, Higham, Ratchford who are 100% team players and Eastmond would have to fit in with them not the other way round.
At the moment we are short of talent to win trophies and Eastmond would give us that. As for what he has done in his past, if this forum had been around in 1985/86 when we were looking to sign Les Boyd who had been banned for life for eye gouging in Australia most of the posts on here would have said we don't want a player that would eye gouge a fellow rugby league player so compared to that, doing a runner at half time in a club RU match isn't a big deal IMO.
Eastmond isn't a certainty to make the 2015 England RU squad and even if he does it might be as a bit part player. The whole attraction of going to RU for league players is internationals and the World Cup, to make it worthwhile you have to be a top international player, regular in the team, like Robinson, Rogers, Sailor, Tuqiri, Brad Thorn or Sonny Bill. Those were the guys that made good careers in RU, the others were bit part players and all the big money and sponsorship and glamour that RU offers that league can't, depends on being an international. If you're only a club player you are better in SL than the RU club game.
He might recognise that now and realise that actually league offers him more than union, he's a good enough player to get Man of Steel and win trophies and go to the NRL, like Tomkins has done. He's still young enough to come back and make it but he needs to make the switch soon and have his attitude right when he comes.
Being a controversial player and touting yourself around for big deals is fine but you need to be like Anthony Mundine or Sonny Bill, ie super hard trainers that up their value by being unarguably indispensable to a team. If you are injured all the time or blow hot and cold but just throw in flashes of individual brilliance that look good on a youtube vid you aren't going to be valued in the same way.
At the moment Eastmond has created question marks over him which Tomkins hasn't, which is why Tomkins career has eclipsed Eastmond's. With a good mentor like Tony Smith in a good professional environment like ours he could make it in league and I think with us he could win MoS and win trophies, so I would be open to him coming but Smith would need to be sure.
This could be all hypothetical as he might not be available anyway.

| Les Boyd was a lovely man, I will not hear a word against him. I really enjoyed watching his huge bulk battering the opposition and then the next minute, being treated to his dancing feet. He was a complete contradiction, but with that voluminous shirt billowing behind him, there was no better sight than Les in full flight. And when we played Wigan and Saints, it was not a matter of whether he was going to hit someone, only who it was going to be.
I now find myself tut tutting when I see dirty play, and as a Wire fan, I actually disliked Alex Murphy with his niggling trips / punches etc when the ref was not looking. So I don't really understand why I always had a soft spot for Les.
I suppose he just brought out the worst in me.
Sorry God

| Feel a traitor saying this but I'm not content with Ratch being 6.
He will be a great FB for us but not a 6.
When TS came to the Wire he reignited Lee's career, TS could do the exact same thing for Kyle.
We have lost Lee, Moz Big Gaz, Brett, Coops & Tyrone & although we have given Hilly, Simon, Ben C, Ryan, Joel & Ben H improved contract's we must have some some Cap available.

I've heard that levelled at Briers before.
I thought Eastmond was a good player when he was in league, his build and playing style is/was very unique, he had an outstanding skillset and I always felt it would be a matter of 'when' rather than 'if' he'd become great.
If Smith wanted him then I'd be delighted because Smith wouldn't sign anybody with his rep if there wasn't potential to change. If he comes back to league and we don't go for him then we all probably know why.

| Good heavens, no. He is his own greatest admirer and if he had the talent he, and bafflingly some others believe he has, then he's be a England (not Saxon) RU regular and clubs would be falling over themselves to persuade him to stay. The kind of persuasion that has a watermark and a picture of the queen on it would suffice.
Quite how people think someone who has spent most of his RU career on the wing or centre is suddenly going to step back into SL, take over the playmaker role and reduce Ratch & Myler to bit-parts is both laughable and worrying in equal parts.
Also nice to see the "Lee Briers was not a great, loyal team player, he's a very naughty boy" backlash has kicked in.
Shameful.

Thurston or Inglis.
It pays to aim high. We got Langer, Johns and Morley here and that was before we were a trophy winning team coached by the best coach in the northern hemisphere.

I am now flagellating myself with rusty chains. In my defence, I wasn't good enough to play RL, and Northern club RU is ok. When my own Club, Stockton, were a reasonable side, our props were a brickie and a pavier. The problem with RU is the Hooray Henry's who frequent Twickenham half a dozen times a year. Your class means an awful lot still at the higher levels, and I think Kyle Eastmond may have realised that.

| If TS wasn't interested in Rangi Chase because of his 'lifestyle choices' then Eastmonds unprofessional antics will exclude him without a seconds thought.
Plenty of talent but as brainless as Gareth Hock.

Whilst I might agree, don't you think that the comparison to our lack of interset in Chase and Hock are a little unfair? Not only are their 'lifestyle choices' different, but, so are their ages, backgrounds and I suppose ultimately their costs.
From a different angle we are gambling with Penny and to some extent Russell, but, it's a gamble based on cost and a lack of competition driving up the price, therefor the perceptions are that it's a no brainer and a shrewd bit of business on both accounts.
Eastmond will undoubtedly attract attention if he comes back to SL, but, in reality what are his options, Wigan Saints Salford Wire Leeds and Hull? TS's interest might just be tempered by who he is up against on the bidding front rather than a lack of self belief that he can straighten the guy out assuming of course that he rates him

I read a few months back that the RU Premiership salary cap was £4.2M.
www.premiershiprugby.com/premier ... /index.php
So RU clubs will be paying players a lot more than SL, and he would presumably have to take a salary haircut to come back to RL. Even if he did, Wigan will have both the money and salary cap to lure him away (should they wish), not to mention Salford. And then there is the issue of whether TS views him as 'salvageable'.

| From memory, Eastmond left our game under a bit of a cloud, too.
He was subjected to a lot of booing from Stains fans, not for leaving them, but for perceived "lack of effort" and generally wandering round with his thumb up his bottom, during the games when he was "in limbo".
Methinks he might have painted himself into a corner. He wont be popular at Baaarrth, and league clubs could be reluctant to take him on. Interesting times ahead for. him

The SC in Union is also considerably offset by the fact that Clubs have up to 45 players in their squads. Don't forget it's 15 starters and 8 reps at the top level, plus all the various second team players.
I can't see him staying at Bath long term after what he's done. I also can't see the point of him playing centre at the moment. England's only real tactic is crash ball centres and Eastmond doesn't really fit the bill.
