Shenton is a big fish in a little pool, couldn't hack it week on week when at saints, Atkins is much the better player and has proved that over the last few seasons. Yes he has faults (like know when! to pass) but so does everybody, he imo has improved his defensive positioning a lot in the last 2 years, we are a much weaker team when he is missing, he strikes me as very much a confidence player.

A player like Shenton doesn't fit the Saints style.
Saints game has always been several scoots from quick plays at dummy half then shift out wide.
That style doesn't seem to me the best when you have a long stride flowing centre.
It suits more of a 2nd rower concert with strength to better like a Gilmore or a centre like a Gleeson.

Atkins has improved two fold and warrants his place but much of that has been down to the closing down of hatches from Rhys Evans. Take away that security Evans offers, no, I don't want to think about it!

A player like Shenton on the other hand would look a dream in a Wire team as he does at Castleford.

Not knowing when to and when not to pass is a fairly fundamental flaw in the make-up of a centre, I'm afraid. Shenton is a classic wingers centre and would be a dream for any winger to play outside of, in the same way that Allan Bateman was.

He's better than earlier in the season but really needs to introduce himself to his winger. Last week was the first time I've seen him pass to Evans in the clear and that was only after he had decided he couldn't get there himself.

On his recent performances I think I'd like to see Atkins have a spell in the back row.

I remember we once had a very ordinary Centre that turned into a very very good Back rower.

Atkins has pace as well.......he could be like the new Mark Roberts crashing onto some Gaz O brien short balls. ....

Understand what you are saying Unc, but I'm afraid I stand by my comment. Shenton has been playing out of his skin since he come back to Castleford, whereas Atkins has had glimpses of past form but ultimately he is still not back to his best. Plus, and this is just my opinion, he is a tad ball greedy.

Good to see that Saints got a hiding at HKR today. There are now two points between the top five. next week Wigan are at Cats and Cas and Hudds play one another. with us playing London there could be some significant changes in league position.

So last season it was lets swap waterhouse for kirmond from some people on here. Now it appears that the same people would love a deal involving us shipping out atkins for shenton! Atkins at his best is streets ahead of shenton and he seems to have found some consistency again. He's a big game player and will deliver at the business end of the season.

Why do we expect people heavily involved in the game and passionate about it to be emotionless in moments when we are all screaming at the television. Can you imagine Stuart Barnes calling 'wide to west'?
