| Quote ="Smiffy27"Bad luck is the main answer to this question. But ... and I have never seen any stats about ... do you get more injuries when you are losing? My gut feeling is when you are struggling in a game you pick up more injuries. When you are on top you get less. Has anyone any evidence to support this??
pete'"
There has been a suggestion that injuries can be sustained when a player enters contact somewhat 'halfheartedly'. This has no real proven evidence as you can't really measure a players desire at any given time. The theory behind it is that for instance in Briers' case, when a concussion is sustained. If Briers went into the tackle without his full vigour and determination then his body would not be as taught, tensed and as ready for the contact as it would be normally, therefore he would be more susceptable to having an injury such as a concussion (lack of concentration on head positioning), or in Cooper's case, a dislocated shoulder as his body is just not ready for the impact.
I am not saying that either of these players played halfheaterdly, just using them as an example. So to summarise, some people may say that a deflated player could be more likely to pick up an injury and there is an argument behind it, but there is no real hard evidence to support the argument as none can be obtained.

Your saying the injury to Kings knee and Briers' head was due to being unfit or out of condition???
Bring me Usain Bolt, let me bend his leg almost in half and see if that doesnt do any damage because he is fit and conditioned. Also, let me knee him in the head and bend his neck back and see if he doesnt get concussed.
Did you really think this one through mate?

| None of them could be prevented apart from (maybe) Bridge which to be honest I didn't really see it happen but potentially again goes back to his lack of flexibility.
I personally can offer sympathy to King as I got exactly the same injury in exactly the same circumstances eight years ago. Still having all sorts of problems and have just had another operation to try and sort it. You are better off breaking your leg.

| Quote ="Hardcore Legend"bad luck mainly, nothing to do with conditioning apart from possibly Bridge's, in regards to King's injury i'm surprised that more players are not injured by this sort of tackling. Something just irks me about a defending player tackling low around the legs (so the legs can't move) then another player tackles the upper body and drives the player backwards, if the player around the legs has a firm grip of the legs then the only outcome is for the leg to buckle and bend either one way or another.
In fact thinking about it, is it down to bad luck or suspicious methods of tackling by the opposition? I mean to get one of two serious/non serious injuries in one game is back luck but 5? Really????'"
Kylie had this happen to him last season at Headingley, v Crusaders, he got to his feet though and wanted to smack the offender - still out for a few weeks when our pack was decimated. It has been mentioned before that although legal its concequences are that players get injured very easily and miss three, four or more weeks out. You would have to look at every instance to see if there were any trends or malice involved.
Dont like to see players get injured and laid out on the field for minutes on end - bad memories. Hope all your injured arent out for too long. Besides King, how are they?

| Have to concurr that the injuries sustained by Kingy & Briersy have nothing to do with conditioning or lack of it, but...what surpised me most over the weekend was the pre season some teams had and the number of SL clubs that played each other, as in not just 1.
Was wondering, with only 1 Testimonial game against a SL side, 'could' this be something to do with the way we played Saturday ?
Agree, we got beaten by a better team, but we did sort of help them along quite a bit, what with missed passes, silly penalties, and looking in my opinion, a bit slow...Hudds I think played at least 3 matches and am sure the guy said 2 SL teams.
Just a thought....

| Bridge seemed to tweak his hamstring within 5minutes of the warm up at Widnes. Probably too cold for him again in Cardiff.

It's not my fault if you don't understand big words. I was explaining how the injuries were not due to the conditioning, or lack of it, as some people were suggesting.

Well if that's what you want to believe then so be it. What I was saying has been scientifically researched by sport therapists looking into the impact of Rugby on the body, the same research that showed that the impact forces are the same as that of a car crash.
I hope you're enjoying your half term off school.

I was saying the reasons behind why injuries may be sustained in rugby when a team is losing, as per the original reply. I don't think i'm the one who needs to grow up.

The Lee Briers incident could happen to any player going into collission Lee Gilmour use to get knocked out in every game so did Sean Briscoe!!
Grix has had a good run of late so he was due one really!!
Chris Bridge seemed to be tracking back then snap something went dont really no what but hope its not a bad one!
Mike Cooper shoulder i think is the problem, not to uncommon really going on the posistion he plays!
There is no right or wrong time for injuries but gettin several on the first game of the season well any team can do without, now we will see if we really do have strength in depth.'"
