| I'm not having a pop at Moran, far from it....but wasn't Burrell one of his ideas also? Could be completely wrong there but I very much doubt it was Price's.

| Burrell didn't work out, from a cap point of view it was a low risk signing. Neither the club nor player deserve to be vilified for it not working out IMO. The RFL make a rule where you get cap dispensation and we tried to use it to our advantage to get a slightly bigger squad. It's a shame it didn't work out really and I'd commend the club trying such moves in the future.

| I also thought it was worth a go but again we're fans....do you think Powell would've been up for this signing or would've not let it get off the ground?

| I wonder what the spend comparison was between the Price era and TS last four years? One thing Price certainly can't say is he didn't have the resources to deliver a GF win.

| Apologies if I didn't get my point across very well.
My post was not intended to have a dig at Moran, Burrell or anybody else for that matter. Like I said I will be eternally grateful for what Simon Moran has done for this club. I also hoped that Burrell would turn out to be a great move and I was as excited as the next person when we signed Inglis.
My point about Russell was that I found it strange that when he signed he referenced a conversation with Simon Moran.
I just don't see that happening at successful clubs. I don't read every football article so people can feel free to show me an article to prove me wrong but I just can't see Man City signing a player and that player coming out saying I had a good natter with Sheikh Mansour or man utd signing a player and that player saying I had a chat with David Gill.
My personal opinion (may be wide of the mark) is that some signings are not completely signed off by the coach. The article about Russell is probably a poor example because I think Tony Smith was after that type of player.
I know that most coaches in the world would happily welcome Andrew Johns. Not so sure that most would have signed GI after 2 years out.
Like I say this is just my personal opinion that some appointments or contract extensions have been influenced by people above TS and Price and that it is hard to say no when the CEO or owner suggests something especially based on the investment that they have put in.
I dont have any evidence for that so it is just a feeling based on what I hear and read. Would Lee Briers have been appointed or given as long as assistant coach without the longstanding relationship with the club. Did Price go to KF and say "we need a prop and I see Tasi is available, can you see if you can get him here" and then not play him. I know the burrell signing ws low risk from a cap perspective but was it a risk from a "team" perspective.
Sometimes helping out with the best intentions can have unintended consequences. I just don't see organisations operating like that with Guardiola or Ferguson being involved.
So yes, I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist, not quite at the level where I think the US goverment blew up the twin towers.

| I would expect the coach to give the CEO a shopping list then it would be up to the CEO to lead the negotiations with the player / agent. During those negotiations you would bring in the support of the coach and, if necessary, the owner to try to convince the player to sign but ultimately the CEO completes the deal.
I would expect the coach to sign-off on the deal (as he is also involved in managing the salary cap) and it could also be that an approach is made to the club by an agent and the CEO goes to the coach as asks 'are you interested in player X?'

I must admit I read it as Simon Moran may have spoken to him to share the vision of the club and where it was planning on going etc. Maybe Russell needed some persuading.
I think one thing we can say for sure is that our signings during this 8 year period have yielded quite a high number of unsuccessful outcomes but the 2021 recruitment appears, with the exception of Inglis to be a lot better than previous years.

Let’s be honest. The standard from Wire Wigan Leeds we’re massive compared to now. Any of those 3 teams would absolutely smash SL over the last 5/6 years.

It’s that sort of sentimental nonsense that is one of the reasons the club doesn’t progress like it should.

That is true but at the same time I’d take Cullen as coach over Price any day of the week. That’s how bad a coach Price is.

Just because somebody was a player with us doesn't mean they won't turn out to be pretty damn good in a coaching role afterwards.
