Quite possibly the reason why we win the semi.
I hope it does Widnes some good as I'd much rather play them than Castleford in the final.

| I am also baffled by this thread, I thought he was a touch at fault for the first try, not fully but a lions share.
Other than that he was no worse than most, I actually think we just lacked intensity and had one of those games in which nothing comes off.
Russell had a shocker but it was only one game.

| He made a few mistakes, but he has been fairly solid this season. He is young and is still learning... Just put this one behind us and move on.

| From what I have seen of him, Ormsby is OK but nothing special.
He is still learning and may be able to overcome his defensive frailties which result from indecision but my main concern is his lack of real pace which was best illustrated against Leeds when he picked up a loose ball from a bad Leeds pass in broken play but was chased and caught by a defender quite easily.

Complete generalisation. Don't judge a fanbase on half a dozen posters on a random forum.

| I like Ormsby and he is only young, I think he missed Joel beside him and that showed with his performance but it is one bad game and he will learn from it!

| Never blamed him at all. However his defence is as bad as Riley and imo is not as good a finisher.

| I was directly in-line with the 3 passes that Gene was fed in the 1st half, they were poor passes leaving Gene little hope, 2 of them were well forward.

| Can't blame Ormsby for the rubbish thrown his way today. Not a world beater but could grow into something half decent given the chance.
Well done to Chris Riley. he was up for it and it showed.

| i wont be slating ormsby, as he is a young lad with alot to learn.. But if im being honest I think he probably just plugging a gap until someone better comes along...
steady player doing his best... but top quality SL winger? Hard to see him at that level.

Positioning was nothing to do with the 2 forward passes. But as MD correctly says Gene is 'a young lad with a lot to learn'.
We need to remind ourselves that prior to March this year, I and others on this board hadn't really heard of Gene. I feel a Cad & traitor to Chris in saying this but I prefer Gene to Riles.

In the sprit of sheer devilment, curiosity (and Sunday evening boredom), can I ask why?
Try scoring record? Riley has the better
Kick returns? I'd say Riley is safer and makes equal if not more yardage
Ball security? I'd say Riley is slightly more reliable under the high ball (though they are both suspect)
Pace? Riley
Bravery? Equal
Strength? Ormsby
Defence? Probably Ormsby
Other than the colour of his hair, dubious facial fluff and eternal damnation for perceived poor positional sense I struggle a little to see why people thing Ormsby looks a better prospect than Riles.
Personally, I'd like Penny to get the a run and judge all three equally, but I'm not convinced any are good enough long term.

The pass from Laithwaite was superb and Ormsby should have caught it and scored. The other passes from Bridge were shocking and a mile forward - no blame on Ormsby there.

I too would like to see Kev get a few games in the 1st team. I heard that he played for Swinton this weekend, so perhaps Kev will get a run out at Catalans this Friday.
We have been able to watch Chris for 5 seasons at the Wire but only had Gene since early spring to judge him by. Before the game I said to my mate 'just watch Riley get a try today'. Didn't think he would get 3.
I agree with your head to head assessment, but again would say that Gene has not had the game time to what Chris has. I would put Gene better at Kick returns.

Agreed, young lad with a lot to learn but he is not superman and tried his best to get to passes that were impossible to get to!
Thought Westwood had a shocker of a game (not for the first time this season) and his 'offloading' was cack!

| Penny is not good enough for Super League, we've seen that time and again.
Ormsby, the jury is out but I agree with morleys_deckchair, he looks like a player just plugging a gap, I bet his next move is to a club like Bradford or London, rather than to Leeds or Saints.
Riley....look at the tries on his career scoresheet, and the Challenge Cup winners medals on his mantlepiece. There's the difference between Penny, Ormsby and Riley.
Which one should be at Warrington....?

| Two matches on the run where the whole team have been pants with glimpes of brilliance. The stats show that the second best winger at Warrington is Riley. Since his loan spell began have we seen anything to suggest that we have someone better?
