| agree with live wired scrap it for a season opener.for a show piece event it was littered with errors and whistle happy refs..or if we are to have it how about having it at man citys ground.one thing about the up and coming season i think it will be a close run thing for play off places with the winners of the grand final may be coming from 3rd or 4th place

| The majority of people who seem to have a downer the Magic weekend are the ones who didn't attend! The majority of fans from all the clubs who did attend seemed to have a great time. The weather was good. In fact it was warmer than Murrayfield in May last year! Before the game people were stood outside the pubs enjoying a drink in the sun. Good atmosphere with bands playing inside and outside the grounds.
With poor weather today, the first round matches would have been played in rain and mud. I know which option I prefer. So for those of you who didn't go this year and are trying to find reasons why it isn't a good innovation, I would suggest that you go next year and then criticise from first hand experience.
Some people have suggested a Magic weekend closer to the heartland of RL but I don't think that would work because supporters would only stay for their own team's game. The price of the Magic weekend is a bargain, especially with the 50% discount for season tickets holders, to able to see all the games. If you can't afford that price then your not really that bothered about watching RL.

| Enjoyed it personally..
Started in Weatherspoon
Watched our dissapointing performance
Went back to the pub
Entered stadium again and moved with the castleford fans to cheer them on
Appeared on big screen singing for dean Widders
Moved with the Wigan fans to laugh at them losing a 16-0 lead
Went back to hotel get changed
Then went around Cardiff which was poor apart from the strip club.
Heard some great songs in Weatherspoon with my favourite being... ( to tune of music man)
We are the castleford fans
We come from down yorkshire
who shall we play
who shall we play
We'll play the dragons( Then went through a different team each time)
frog frog frog frog frogs and snails
frogs and snails frogs and snail.. etc

I know there is lots of banter between Wian and Wire fans but for me the weekend started really well when I arrived at gate 6 just after the Wire/Hudds kick-off where the stadium was buzzing with Wire fan anticipation. The atmosphere was great. Unfortunately for Wire after the first try the game didn't go as hoped. However, for the neutral the thing I like about the Magic weekend is being able to sample what each of the teams supporters go through. I like to join supporters from one of the playing teams to hear the banter and sense the emotions they go through in a game.
During the Wigan game a Leeds fan mingled with us and was enjoying great banter and he gave as much as he got. He was a great sport which ended in him hugging a Wigan fan who had also had a skinful. You can't get that in any other sport.

| Been to every Magic weekend (just for Warringtons day) and loved every one of them. Glad it's been moved back to Cardiff though, much better selection of pubs and the atmosphere in and around the city just feels better. I really can't find anything to not enjoy about 7 games of Rugby League one after another and spending the rest of the day in various pubs, talking to fans from various other clubs. The only people who seem to not enjoy the concept are the people who sit at home and moan about the empty stadium, Eddie and Stevo, Phil Clarke and the RFL.

No. Were you and your friends upset because your team had a shocker? Yes. Therefore I hope you don't mind if I take your statement that everyone hated it with a pinch of salt. Not least because I was there, and they didn't. I'm also stuggling to work out why anyone from Hull would travel down on a day ticket for the day that their team was not playing, but I'll leave that one for now.

An aufull comment from a mod posted and now when i look back on posts the mods comments have been changed and my reply that was very polite and in now way caused the mod any offence has also been changed. How do you get mods demoted or are they allowed to lock and change things to suit themselves ?

I edited the posts, i removed the insult from headhunter as it was far from needed, adn i removed your retort insulting him back, asking you to ignore it, hoping to get the thread back on track with your original point.

| If it was just about the rugby, then it probably fails as a concept - decent overall attendance, but not all games are attended, most are watched in pubs / bars - is there a way to keep fans in a stadium for 8 hours ? Probably not, so treat the weekend as a life experience and immerse yourself in the weekend.
For me it is more about spending some quality time with my good friends and mixing with opposition fans and the locals.
From Friday mid-day lunchtime meeting up at the Village, to the 16 or 17 comfort breaks - a drink in the King George 5 in Walsall, served by Susan Boyle - to arriving in city centre location hotel - to a quite low standard all you can eat Indian / Chinese - to a £1 a drink bar (Something strange but could quite understand why us 6 blokes were being constantly stared at in there tho) - to a photo shoot with Ray French and then a few beers in city centre Cardiff and a 5 minute stroll home (no taxis this year) the weekend was off to a flyer.
Quality weekend for me - thanks chaps (you know who you are)
Same again next year - got to be Cardiff again and again

Millenium, weekend, mission accomplished.
However I prefered the Saturday of the matches, fancy dress indian restaurant, comedy slapstick on the public sculptures, enjoying a pleasant conversation with the head of our club, and watching people trying to exchange their kidneys for crystal meth in the seedier nightspots.
Oh and beer made from oranges, however it has given my piddle that certain selafield glow and smells of sugar puffs.

| I got there Friday night to take in the Scorpions v Wire Under 20s game which was a great way to start the weekend. I enjoyed it, though it was pretty cold if you stayed in the stadium more-or-less all day on Saturday as I did. Nice to see so many teams and matches in one go. I don't agree with the idea of playing it in Manchester or Leeds as there would be nothing special about such a trip. However, warmer weather would have been nice. At least the RFL continues to try new things and they deserve congratulations for that.

| Always reading this site so throught it was about time I became a member!!!
I can honestly say that I had a great time in Cardiff.... Score apart it was good fun. Where I was sat with my up and coming future wires player son, the banter was free flowing (as was the Magners) and we had a blast...! Loved all the games that mattered...
Kind of think it may be better to have the magic weekend later in the season... But hey ho and all that....
Roll on round 2!!
Come on the wire!!!!

Watching from Walkabout as a lad dressed as a giant banana make what appeared to be a very serious and animated mobile phone call, the 'Shallow Hal' scene on Friday night, listening to the lad dressed in the new Wigan shirt sat behind us during the Leeds/Bradford game who displayed his RL knowledge with, 'Is his name Ian Burrows or Rob Burrows?' He also managed to eat an entire Steak and Ale Pie before realising it wasn't Meat and Potato, absolute sacrilage for a Pie Eater.
Great company and great weekend, already saving for next year.

if they had the the Magic locally and in mid summer the same people would find something to moan about.

| Four of us have arrived back from Cardiff at 3.30pm today and weve had a great time sat through all the games, but I can understand people who come on here and moan about MM being in Febuary as it's a bit cold and just after Christmas but the concept is good one.
I also think rugby fans that only watch there team and no other teams detact from the spectical but it's there choice but I find it good to the up coming opposition.
I will go to the next one be it winter, spring or summer as it was a great weekend with fans from all the other clubs good banter with good people.

| well, i for one drove down on saturday morning, arrived just before the game then drove home shortly after! wigan fans enjoying our increasing injury list left a bit of a bitter taste but appart from that it was just another away match for me! the 400 mile round trip on one side i have no particular desire to watch other teams play (admittedly i did watch the saints v pie match on tv when i got home & the sunday matches with a beer in my own armchair).
i have no desire to sit in a stadium drinking rubbish beer watching other teams but i do feel for those who do fair enough, ihope you had a good weekend and i hope it's on again next year, each to their own, i say.

Quite possibly the banana was me as I was ringing a mate to transfer cash for me on the Friday as I had already blown about £150 in 12 hours on booze! Expensive but well worth it! Same again for 2012 please. Nothing beats watching 7 live games of RL in 2 days!
