| Quote ="Milly"Tony Smith didn't drop the ball or miss a single tackle tonight! If you said to me back in February that we would finish 3rd in the league and would retain the Challenge Cup I would have happily accepted that. I have thoroughly enjoyed this season. Next year we need to add playing well in the rain to our nal and we'll be unbeatable! Tonight they just looked tired.
Have a good holiday boys and see you all next year. I can't wait!'"
You might find you have dropped a couple of places to at least 5th as there are now four teams above you left in the comp.

Yes there's no doubt on our home playoff form, we would have sent the Saints packing.

| Just the end of a long hard season, and came up against a battling Saints side and a determined Hudds team. All there is too it really.
I'd swap winning the cup and getting knocked out now, then losing away at Leeds next week and not having a cup.
You didn't even get in the playoffs last year, top 4 was an achievement in itself.

Read the posts by me on this thread. I am not a Wire fan, I made that clear.
Read my avatar. It's clear I am not a Wire fan.
I asked a question. I wondered on peoples opinions. I praised Wire within my opening post.

| Cant complain with another Challenge Cup win and 3rd place in Super League (can you?).
But...I wouldn't have rested anybody that didn't need it at Quins. But I'm not the coach

| It was not a mistake resting players at quins, Smith is still building this team. Next year is when we will be at our best i believe. Smith had done an exceptional job in getting us back to back wembley wins in his first two seasons in charge( 1 and a half if you want to be picky). Our lack of play off experience is what cost us. Saints are experts which is why they easily beat us two weeks ago.

| I think his only mistake has been moving Monas from 9 to 7... as 'steady' as clarke has been (and im not a clarke basher) he looked very pedestrian against Huddersfield, who exploited the gaps around him... Higham showed when he came on that he is the best impact hooker we have at present.
I would like to think that next season, with a full strength team, Monas will start at 9 and higham will be the impact hooker.

That won't happen because smith has picked clarke when we have had a full strength team. Personally i don't understand it as even Bridge (who was superb this season) couldn't just walk back into the side because our backline had performed so well yet clarke gets straight back in despite the form of our two hookers. Weird one for me.

| Clarke played well when he came back, BUT Monas is a 9, he plays best at 9, we win most games with him at 9. I think had Myler played in the final we still would have won.
Dont fix it if it aint broke, myler 7, Monas 9, and clarke or higham for the bench spot, if not both, and use clarke as interchange loose forward for harrison.
But then im not coach, never will be, and next season if we emmulate the success of this year i will be one happy Wire, as i am now, irrelevant of how we have just exited the playoffs.

Does that mean you should give Leeds the couple of league leaders shields you won since they beat you in the grand final?

Could saturdays result have been different if we had Monas at hooker with Clarke at half-back even?

Seeing as they smashed 23 points past our defence in the first half I don't think the result would have been any different if we had Alfie Langer at halfback

| I'm disappointed about the last couple of weeks but overall it's a big step forward from last year.
OK - the same number of trophies, but more consistency, more competition for places and more youngsters coming up.
Onward and upward.

I was thinking more the impetus of having Monas and his go-forward rather than the static (compared to Luke Robinson) Clarke at hooker. The best form of defence is attack and all that!

| We won the CC with a team playing superb rugby at the top of their game. Some of them may never get the chance to play at Wembley again and therefore played their part in a great game. Choosing Clarke over Myler was a blow to Myler and a lot of fans. Clarke got in because of his age and injury problems the year before. Since Wembley, playing Clarke has put the team back years. There is no go forward no line speed. Monas should play at hooker and Myler at scrum half. Ruining another great talent is not on.

| Think what we've got to consider is that we had only about 3, maybe 4 bad halves in the whole season. We finsihed 3rd and won the cup in great style. Several matches we lost were by inches. To me that's a real success and the lads and TS should get huge credit for it. One of the things that changed the team this year was Monas playing at hooker, he was a star man every game he started there. Richie Mylers injury then his dip in form/confindence pushed us to move Monas, and when Clarkey came back and played really well it seemed to have worked. However we were found out in September when we lost our shape a bit.
If I have a criticism its that we sometimes didn't have a wet weather game as the last Saints match showed up. A brilliant 10 minutes then the ball was like soap and we suffered.
To the people who booed them off at half time last Sunday, get a life, and if you can't take getting beaten don't come. We were poor but Huddersfield were very good. Not only did you forget everything thats gone well this season but you let us all down. So much so that when we failed to catch Huddersfield (and it was close) the club didn't even give us the chance to credit the team for the season or thank the players who were leaving. Think how that felt in the dressing room!

| Can I point out that Smith is not infallible and has made mistakes. However he is still the best thing to happen to the club for, well sort of forever.
I hope what I keep hearing about Myler isn't true and he can get back in the team next season thus releasing Monas back to the hooking role.
