good luck to 'em. We know the rules at the start of the season. If we had finished 5th we would have been trying just as hard to progress.

Whilst i agree there shouldn't be a top 8 (top 6 at most imo) we won the GF fair and square and that makes us Champions its the same in the NRL league leaders are "Minor Premiers" and again the winners of the GF are Champions.
Also there seems to be a lot of finger pointing at the RFL but its the CLUBS who voted in the current format agreed to club call and set out the 8 team structure.
I agree we should have a more prestigous trophy for 1st place and more prize £££ and i also think 2nd 3rd and 4th getting a 2nd chance is ridiculous.
Now looking at what we've achieved in the last 2 years is much more a credit to us as a club and team than it is as a negative on the comp.
As Champions EVERY team in the comp raises there games against us we've also played more games than any other team this year which included the WCC.
There may be structural problems with the P/O system and not enough recognition for top spot but ateod the day WE ARE CHAMPIONS and we've earned it end of.

Yes and I think almost everyone on this thread agrees with you. Just thought I'd reinforce that at page 16 so people don't scuttle back to the Leeds board and proclaim "ALL WARRINGTON FANS DON'T THINK WE DESERVE IT SOUR GRAPES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!".

To be fair mate i think that's a given as should be trying to class any numpty causing grief as a "fan" of any club because imo no matter what shirt they wear if they are p!$$ed up or otherwise causing grief then they simply aren't RL "fans".

Getting back OT

we need to accept that the 3 MAJOR trophies available WCC GF & CC are all knock out cup competitions and that the LLS is a MINOR trophy.

It has always been that way in the SL era and largely throughout the preceding 50 years in various formats.

I understand that fans want value for money in terms of the ST but the difficulty is if they reduce the number of SL teams to make the league a more intense competition week on week then the clubs will need to charge a much higher ticket price per game.

Maybe we could go with this format - 10 SL Teams League with a reintroduced Top 5 Play Off.

Of that there is no doubt.... this was already on show last season.. and now you can see more people looking to prioritise their money in regards season tickets. Why spend all that money on a season ticket when over half the games are dull, flat and almost meaningless? The growing trend will be go to watch the Wigan, Saints, Leeds, Widnes home games, a selection of away games, cup games and play off matches. I certainly wont be getting a season ticket, and i dont care if that doesn't make me a 'true fan' ... I will pick and choose my games accordingly.... I will watch some games on the TV in the pub with my mates, some at home infront of the TV with the mrs.... and i will probably still spend £100+ in the club shop on clothing.



Of course you shouldn't, it makes a mockery of the league.... Fans of other sports point at the 'champions' coming from 5th for 2 seasons running and laugh at our sport..... Having said that, its not Leeds fault and we should take nothing away from them for winning it. Leeds pay no attention to the league table whatsoever, they gear up to peak at the end of the season... In the ideal world you would have the top 4 go into the play offs... 1st plays 4th, 2nd plays 3rd...one week off for both sides and then have the final... i dont think there would be any complaints. But we have to realise that our sport is run by sky's money. They get what they want... and they want a prolonged play off series at the end of the season, and that's what they will get.

I'd disagreed with this.

Chelsea won the Champions League last season having finished 9 pts behind the domestic league winners Man Utd in 10-11 season (their qualification year) and 25 pts behind the domestic league winners Man City last season (their wiining year), yet are still refered to as "The Champions of Europe."

You can disagree with it, but it doesn't change the fact that its happening.

There's nothing wrong with winning it from fifth. People just need to get their head around that fact now that it has happened (twice).

For years it was slightly less controversial because with the exception of Bradford from 3rd in 2005 the winner had always finished at least 2nd, and with the exception of Saints in 2005 the table toppers had always been in the final.

Now that has changed last year and this, all of a sudden it's an embarrassment and bad for the game. Why exactly? As pointed out Chelsea are not the Champions of England but they ARE the Champions of Europe after winning a tournament they qualified to enter without being champions of anywhere. You also don't need to finish top of your Champions League group to end up winning the Champions "League" after the knockout format.

That's an example from football which is presumably where most of these "fans of other sports" come from. There are plenty of other sports that also use play offs to decide their champions.

People always talk about how strong the competition is in the NRL. Well their Minor Premiers don't always win the Grand Final do they? Nor do they then compete in the WCC.

Super League has been very uncompetitive for a number of years - hence the top two contesting the GF more often than not. Now that it's finally got a stronger level of competition with four or five clubs up there in the mix it's suddenly embarrassing and bad for the game is it? How?! Jesus wept!

And weren't Liverpool crowned 'Champions of Europe' when according to the league table they weren't even the best team in Liverpool?

Yes but Chelsea aren't crowned their divisional champions by winning a european tournament on penalty's are they? You're talking about a totally different tournament, against different teams.

The question i get is 'how can Leeds be the champions and the best team, when they cant finish in the top 4'... and the only answer that i can give is that they don't really bother about where they finish in the league... which then brings the question 'well what's the point in having league fixtures then, it all sounds like a load of sh*te to me'.

is there any other answer you can give? is there another reason that Leeds don't finish in the top 4, yet still win the grand final 2 years running?

can you think of any other sport where teams can go through the domestic season without really being that bothered about where they finish?

Well I don't think Leeds deliberately finished fifth to set themselves up with a harder route to the final than the teams above them faced, nor would I feel more confident about our chances next season if we finish fifth than I will if we finish first.

Nonetheless fifth is where Leeds found themselves, and for two years in succession they've dealt with it a lot better than us or Wigan have.

I think part of the problem lies in the name - "Champions". I appreciate that by the correct dictionary definition of the word Leeds are Champions, but I think that for many people the title Champions doesn't sit comfortabley when they are clearly not the best team over the course of the full season.

Perhaps slight renaming/branding is the answer. Wigan Warriors could be Champions by virtue of winning the league whereas Leeds Rhinos would be Super League Winners or Premiers or similar.

Whilst it may be perfectly acceptable in the USA or Australia for a team which is obviously not the best over the course of the full season to be crowned Champions, some of us are still struggling to come to terms with the concept especially as it has only really been an issue over the past 12 months and a few days.
