Hes been tweeting all season and hes 26 so wants to be first choice full back not just playing when hodgson is rested. I want him to stay but you cannot blame him for making the most of his career.

Would love him to stay, but as you say, can't blame him @ that stage of his career wanting to be 1st choice full back

The whole is Mathers staying, is he going to Union, is he going to Catalan, will he accept a one year deal.

I think its all run its course.

see i questioned that the other week, i totally understand the wanting to be first choice in your position, but the two viewpoints that are made in reference to players career choices are:

A; best contract(short career)
B; win trophies.



Since we won the cup we've had all these players statements about this is the team to win trophies, this the place to be etc. Players want to win trophies, we had fozzard leaving us for want to win trophies.

Surely being a well used squad player here would be better than first choice at cas or somewhere like that (sorry cas, current situations and all that)

How do you think karl fitzpatrick feels being first choice at salford? i reckon he'd jump at the chance to come here and be a bit part player.

Guess it depends how much you like playing? Do you just want your pay cheque and don't care if you come in off the bench or do you just want to play? Not sure Mathers is the former.

being a first choice player influences the size of the contact as well.....if you are a squad player and you get released, its harder to negotiate a good deal somewhere else and convince them that you are a leading SL player

I am expecting something big to be announced, you don't walk away from a big club like Warrington when there is only one crunching tackle between you being second choice fullback and first choice fullback.

he will be going to castleford or wakefield or leeds rugby union either way he will be playing in yorkshire

I've headed cas from a bloke infront of me at the Salford game.

it will be sad to see him go considering he scored our first try in our challenge cup VICTORY last season i think hes been hard done by an injury prone awesome kicker fullback brett hodgeson lol

I heard he was off to Salford.

Hes going to Cas but theyve just signed Owen up on a two year deal, im not having that pal.

wait and see then.

I fully understand the scepticism but (1) Owen was playing on the wing before his injury and (2) we look like having even less back cover at the Jungle next season than this. IMO there won't be many better British backs than Mathers available this summer so Cas would be wise to get someone with his versatility while they can.

Mathers will also bring lots of positives to the changing room and training field.

From some of the stories coming out of Cstleford this season it would seem the qualities Mathers will bring to these are required just as they appeared to be at Warrington when he signed for us.
