I think the program of tonights explanation is being repeated on 4 about now

The show last night amounted to little more than blah blah blah for an hour then Derren Brown trying to convince people that the group came up with the numbers which he then said he re-adjusted the numbers based and some mathmatical formula out of sight of the group.

Ask yourself why a group that had helped him for so long and had put a lot of hours into this project didn`t even get to see the numbers before hand, they couldn`t have put the numbers on themselves as the channel 4 producers and lawyers would have got them to sign a legal agreement where they couldn`t discuss the project or play the draw on this particular day in a similar way that a jury can`t discuss a case until the trial is over.

1. The group that had helped him for so long didn`t even know what the numbers were themselves and they were supposed to be the ones that did most of the leg work and came up with the basis for the numbers.

2. At no point were the numbers revealed to the public before hand, they could have been released 5 mins before the draw was made and that wouldn`t have broken any agreement and it woouldn`t have influenced the draw or result in any way as this was one blokes opinion on what the numbers might be on that day.

The trick/illusion relied on knowing the result before hand and thats all it was, a trick/illusion. Its got a split screen written all over it, working on it for a year lol ...... Any good video editer could come up with the same result in a few days with the right set and equipment.

This thread has had more interesting, intelligent debate on it than half the RL-related threads on here.

I completely agree with Peckerwood. The fact that the camera was shaking ever so slightly throughout proves it could not have been a split screen. If it had been a split screen there would have been movement variations along the bottom and top of the screen and along the 'split'. Anyone who can't logically understand that needs their head testing.

you would have to be on glue to believe that 24 peoples random gueses calculated as a mean (which is essentially what he was claiming) would predict the lottery. The mean of those numbers are no more or less likely to win the lottery than any of the individuals guesses. Its just trickery as shown by him not revealing them before. Not knocking him as he is brilliant but you'd have to be stupid to believe that he genuinely predicted the lottery.

Not so. Perhaps the main trick and illusion was not to predict the lottery but to convince people he had when all he had done was blatent camera trickery. Are you seriously telling me that you believe that 24 guesses averaged out are the way to predict a random number generation against odds of millions to one.
9/10ths of that show last nigh bore no relevance to the lottery win but was misdirecting people with genuine mathematical tricks thus convincing people that the main event was also a mathematical stunt.

At last sanity. Anyone who thinks the numbers were predicted is barking mad. This is not to see he isn't a brilliant showman and very talented at the art of suggestion.

Not at all. I'm telling you I don't believe that any of the methods he revealed are true and I certainly don't believe the camera trickery one. I believe only Derren Brown and maybe a handful of others know the truth about how he did it. He's an extremely good showman and although he does reveal some of his methods I believe he keeps a lot of them very close to his chest. There'd be no surprise anymore if he revealed everything.

This is the situation

He is a master of misdirection and the show was full of them.

The flip of the coin was misdirection to guide people into thinking he was working with probability on the lottery.

The group work was misdirection and tried to make people think that he gained some advantage in working with so many to increase his chances

The statement that he couldnt reveal his prediction due to legalities is also misdirection. It is completly untrue and was done simply to hide the fact that he didnt have the numbers beforehand

The work with the group also was done to hint that they all picked the numbers but a closer look shows that none of them knew the numbers.


Now putting everything together anyone with an ounce of common sense would conclude that

1 - DB plus the group did not pick the lottery numbers. He got the group to pick some numbers which were probably discarded awaiting the real ones.

2) He achieved the correct numbers by either choosing them after the draw was made public (camera trickery / some other way) OR (less likely) rigging the draw beforehand. There are no alternatives, the numbers were not picked beforehand.

Had he genuinely predicted the numbers they could have been made public minutes before the draw (this is not illegal) AND to make it more convincing the raw data allegedly generated by the group could have been taken to the live show and calculated by the group 30 mins before so that the group also knew the numbers before hand without being able to gain an advantage from them.

so - give us your theory then. Do you actually think he predicted them?

I love Derren Brown, met him a couple of years ago, top bloke however that was simply a huge Publicity stunt to advertise his upcoming shows.
...and to sell a bunch more lottery tickets for Camelot on the back of 'groups' working together


I hated that format too, was like watching flipping Big Brother or something, more recaps than the x factor.
