1...you want to show interest in a player about to renew or get another elsewhere to rank up the cap space of that rival...
2....it does the club profile no harm to be linked with any available top player.

Could only happen if Austin wanted to go home or Widdop changed his mind,they are our Marquee signings so we no chance of getting him under the cap.

All clubs in Super League are allowed 2 marquee signings , which means their salary cap value is limited to £150,00 (£75,000 if club trained ) . Clubs are expected to agree to raise this to 3 or 4 for the 2020 season .

I don't think that has gone away just yet. There is always a lag period where there are contract discussions and then a medical to pass.

As he is out injured at the moment it would be difficult to pass a medical.

Bad wording on my part there. The medical is designed to reveal the full medical state of the player so the club can decide on the level of risk and hence the value of any offer they make. So the player doesn't actually pass or fail a medical.

Similarly if the player is currently injured it doesn't necessarily mean the club will not go ahead and agree terms. If he has a sprained ankle it will be immaterial. If eg he has suffered a more serious injury and the medical advice is that there is a 10% chance of it recurring, perhaps the parties might still agree terms, but at a lower value.

Yes we have signed a number of players with injuries, some requiring surgery.

Very good young player Keenan, be gutted if he leaves. Would rather keep him than Gelling. Massive potential and has been class in the championship this year.

Saw this in League Express this morning, haven't seen anything of him but LE seemed pretty confident he would be joining us.

It’s in both papers this morning with mention of Gelling aswell.Another report in League Express says Fitzpatrick and Price have had a meeting recently to discuss signings for next season.

Nosey Parker in today’s league weekly has said from jungle insiders that we went after McShane.

We just get linked with everybody, Not a chance in hell we'd go after McShane with Clark already on the books. We couldn't afford to have both on the cap and McShane wouldn't move to be a no. 2 at his stage of career - he's better than that.
