Looking at Salfords result tonight makes Mondays game frightening,

This team at the moment are resembling the Labour Party.Still in the race but they haven't a chance of winning anything.Mind you come to think of it think Corbyn's a better chance getting in than we have winning anything.

Salford have depth and quality in the backs, but come unstuck against teams with a quality pack.

I dont mind getting beat (i've been watching wire for 40 years!), i dont mind being outplayed, i dont even mind having opposition fans telling us that its always our year, but i do object to a poorly coached, expensively assembled team with superb facilities that can't pass, tackle or come up with a single spark of rugby intelligence wearing my clubs colours.

Spot assesment, 46 years for me and to have seen the bad times but as you say this is beyond bad.

What frightens me is the possibility of ending the year with Agar as caretaker coach and the prospect of the middle eights at best or, dare we say it, the bloody million pound game. But Smith has to go. Who else do you blame when those objectively quality players don't fire as expected? One 'off' game is acceptable from individuals but not week in week out. The creativity and confidence has been coached out of them it seems. Really irked me when Eddie said in commentary that we've not played with confidence all season, but, barring saints at home, he's right for once. Broke my heart to see Chris bleedin' Hill chipping a grubber through. He knows that's not his job as much as me and you could see the man was angry and clearly thinking "where's the stand off for this"? Set the tone for our Mickey poor attack all evening. This is it in a nutshell. There is absolutely no reason why we should not expect and demand better. This isn't 1985 with us training part time on Loushers Lane with a shoestring budget.

When you see prop forwards in Hill and Philbin with the last tackle attacking kick, you know something is very wrong. Almost as wrong as letting a 34 year Rob Burrow run 75 meters from dummy half to score without the pace to catch him.

What worries me as well is that Smith had no explanation and seemed to have little comprehension or idea of why we performed like that.

Who comes in?

Saints fans didn't know when they released Cunningham of his duties. They appointed an interim management structure and assessed applications and contacted the agents. No reason why we could not do the same. You don't need to have the solution before you remove the problem.

I see two possibilities here,

1. The tales of recurring dressing room bust ups between coaches who demand style A of rugby, and players who want to play style B.

2. The players have realised that top four is beyond them and are saving it for the challenge cup.

And no doubt niggling in the background is the vast amount of cap awarded to a certain few non performing players, coupled with the fact that certain players know they won't be retained next season.

What a mess.

Who cares who comes in now? So what if it's Agar to move to head coach? We're going backwards with Smith but we're not bad enough to go down, so take the gamble; get rid and see what happens with the remainder of our season being risk free. Worst case scenario we get another average coach for next year. At least we'd have tried something.
