has he been banned though?
I thought he had walked away from his contract to save the club and the sponsors any further embarrassment.

Thought there were rumours of the NRL deregistering him. As I say though if its just his club that has sacked him then its fair enough, but if he was that good why wouldn't another NRL club pick him up if they could? Saying that they might still do that.

Manu was eligible cause he lives here. If those three players were rejected from the england set up and chose to live in Russia and play there they could join the national team. It is a frace.
And if my parents were abroad when i was delivered I wouold probably be the nationality of where i was born if they then chose to live there but if they returned back to their home country i would then become that nationality. I am certianly not calling for a dictatorship just a bit of common sense.
The point is though that Pat richards was born in Australia and NEVER lived in Ireland and yet because his parents were born in Ireland (they obviuosly moved to Australia quite young) he is eligible.
and i would say when it comes to the national team you have to pick. You can't play for both Australia and Ireland cause you have a bit of both in you. He must pick and there is a whole lot more evidence for him being Australian.'"

| For me, whoever scoops him up are gonna get a great deal! And if it is us, there's no shortage of dogs in this town which should keep him a happy chappy! I'm still trying to find out about the exact quota/overseas ruling though...

He's allowed three pedigrees but no Chow, Akitas or Spitz. I think Shih Tzus are off the list now...

I think we are allowed 5 players from aus
5 players overseas trained players including those above.
But now i am confused cause i can think of more than 5 right now.
Monas, Hicks, King, Hodgeson, Solomona, L. Anderson.

| Well just had a quick look at the RFL rules and it states a maximum of 5 overseas players, but I believe Solomona gets away with it on relaxed restrictions. And therefore, we are at the quota limit! But that's how I read it and no doubt somewhere another rule contradicts it...?

| I think the rule is 5 overseas quota and 5 overseas trained. Anderson and solomona both count as overseas trained. Which leaves us with hicks, king, hodgson, monaghan as quota players. Meaning we have one space left

Its five in total now, 5 overseas trained in total. They made the numbers match to avoid confusion.
However certain players (such as *probably* Solomona, maybe Anderson?) are now classed as federation trained as they were here before the new rules were brought in. However if Anderson does still count as non-fed trained then you'll be up to the limit with the 4 aussies (4 non-fed) and Anderson (the 5th non-fed.)
All very confusing, I can't wait until the exemptions have all gone and its just a lot simpler all round.

| If only somebody had gone to the effort of explaining all the quota rules together with what qualifies you for each category it would make things so much easier.
They could also allocate the squad by colour coding or the like to each category and post it as a sticky under the title "2011 Squad".

Max of 5 quota players - Aussies
Max of 5 non-federation trained players - Not trained within Super league or other associated leagues for 3 years prior to the age of 21, regardless of nationality.
Max of 5 between the two of them.
I think. As I say the confusion comes with who's exempt these days. At Wigan I think last year Pat, Feka + Phil Bailey all counted as Federation Trained because they had been there since before the rules came in.

No you get 5 quota places which includes overseas trained so we have 6 but Solomona has a "relaxed restriction" so we have 5.

I know they say there's no sentiment in sport but i'd feel very uncomfortably taking a big dump on a player who has been fantastic since he signed. Hicks is a great player and he deserves this final year.
If it was up to me i'd rather keep Hicks at least we know what he can do and what he can do he does very well.

It beggars belief doesn't it.
Meanwhile - does anyone have Chris Leikvoll's profile?

You can tell from this video he is genuinely shocked and saddened by his actions, which ever Super League club he goes to they are going to get a very good player either way.
