| I don't suppose it makes him tough but I remember when i was a small lad and my grandad took me to watch widnes...... paul hulme, for reasons only know to himself, ran straight into a post. The klang noise echoed all the way round naughton park.... Hulme just stood there... shook his head and carried on like nothing had happened.
"Grandad that player just banged his head against the post"
"Dont worry lad.... where there's no sense there's no feeling"
Also another vote here for sam tomkins.... remember a few years ago when mitchell sargeant put the shoulder into his face nice and late... almost knocked him clean out.. after a few mins treatment tomkins got up off the floor and proceeded to put castleford to the sword with a brilliant hat-trick... we found out that day that you cant smash him up and put him off his game. if anything it seems to make him play better.

| dean busby anyone remember the cc semi final against bradford at huddersfield , i think it was 3 times busby had to leave the field for head wounds to be stitched up and just kept coming back for more against what was then the most feared pack in superleague

| Andy Farrel and his taped up face!
i think this could be an endless list.
The Nat Wood shout is good, played with a broken neck IIRC?
Even Chris Riley, a small guy really, got KO'd twice the other year in one game but stayed on.
Barry Mac was a tough one for me growing up watching RL too

| I think you can place most fullbacks in this category. Returning the ball with a large defensive line looming down on you, with the inevitability of getting dusted.

| Mike Monas in the game in Barcelona springs to mind. He was knocked flat out by Elima (twice).
After the first whack TS brought him off and he sat on the sideline looking gastly. 15 minutes later he was back on only for the same thing to happen again shortly afterwards. The better player you are the tougher you have to be.

whilst i totally agree with this(and support culls use of the term extremists to describe current league players) can i submit, one Mark Carroll of the london broncos as evidence for the prosecution.

| Mike Nicholas and Jim Mills. Knocked seven bells out of each other on the pitch, best of mates off it.

Totally agree with that. This is probably the reason many players who, despite having the skill, don't make it. They don't have that extra somthing, toughness.

Always thought that Mad dog was just that, crackers. Nutley was a fine player as well as being as tough as old boots, despite his lack of size.

Petero (never seen anyone get the better of him)
Chev Walker (must get some kudos for playing even though he knew the compound fracture he received was inevitable)
Mean Dean (as mentioned)

| I have heard it in passing that Danny Orr can be a feared man within the squad. I know he does not dish it out, but i have it on good authority that nobody would like to tangle with him.
Mike McClorum at our place has a bit of a "rep" also.
On a side note
Sean Wane was one ard lad when he was at Wigan (and still is if reports are correct............ )

| I always thought Duane Mann was a bit superhuman because he never seemed to get injured, at all. I recall having a chat with him about it in Legends one Friday night!

| I don't know for certain what Duane Mann's injury record was, but 124 appearance in 4 seasons suggests it was pretty good.
