| King overall is a big disappointment, and is clearly not the player that his Aussie rep would have had us all believe. He is, at best, a fairly ordinary centre/winger who works hard and tries in defence but has none of the essential magic that makes a great player. That said, he was one of our better performers today - nearly all Quins tries came on Gleeson's side of the field. Monaghan looked OK until he went off injured: it was after he left the field that we lost all direction, although our defense was poor from minute one again.
Tony Smith has a lot of work to do. It would not surprise me if we had less than half of this squad on our books by the time 2009 comes to an end. Given that there's no relegation, playing ten or twelve of the reserves next week in the starting seventeen might send the right message to Briers and co. As for the Andersons, what a total let down of two more supposed internationals, who obviously have the talent but don't seem to want to turn it on for the Wire.

| Quote ="JWP"As somebody who's opinion I'll listen to, were Monaghan & Briers 'that' bad ? Ie, Monaghan to be withdrawn at halftime, Briers before the end ? Were they bad enough to make you think they might not play for a while ? I've said on another thread, I think we'll see Gleeson at stand off from next week, I'm just wondering from somebody who was actually there ?
I'd like to see a few of these turn out for the reserves for a while to tell you the truth, not just for a week like, for a few weeks, like Penny has been doing for his 'crimes'. I think Monaghan, Briers et al should be shown up, the real slackers, Rauhihi is another who for me doesn't pull his considerable weight.
I think a chap said it on another thread, ask them directly do you want to play for this club ? If no, turn out at Wilderspool, every Saturday, in front of 100 people, and know that your facing the prospect of doing this for two & a half years if needs be, if the money means that much to you, then good on you, if you can afford a drop, instruct your agent to get you an NRL club asap, and we'll call it quits for the money you've stolen so far.
If the players think they can take on Smith, they are wrong, they are wrong for a start because I think we've all had enough of them, collectively we've had a gutful of them. We've shifted the blame everywhere, Cullen, Lowes, Moran, it's the players, they don't work hard enough & they don't want it, and if I had to choose, I'd back Smith tomorrow, if he wanted to get rid of all 25 of them, play the reserves until the end of the season, and bring in people that he trusts to work hard for our club, I'd back him 100%, the players need to realise, the fans are speaking now, they can't hide anywhere, the blame is firmly being places at their feet, and should Smith want to weed out 1,2,5,10 whatever, the fans will back him.'"

| Just got back after the 420 mile round trip, cold and fed up. A 12 hour trip which has aged me about 5 years.
No-one was expecting miracles after a week, but my God.......he's got his work cut out there. I watched the majority of the second half through my fingers, terrible 'performance.'
Great reserves game though, again.

If they have to rebuild this team YET again, it will be the end of this club as anything like a credible force in SL. It will wither and die; the process has already started.

It won't take 3 to 5 years to sort ya team out. It could take the next 3 games.

Exactly, its a confidence thing. Its gets us nowhere rebuilding and rebuilding. Make a few changes maybe drop a few players give a few younger guys ago, we will keep going round and round in circles if we continue to ship in and ship players out on big contracts.

| Don't know what's wrong with your side at the moment, but you are just not playing like a team that believes in itself.
You were in the game for the first 15 minutes or so, we scored & then you replied & it was definatley nip & tuck for this first period.
Then you just seemed to give up!!
I kept waiting for your team to come back at us, but it never happened.
For all the talent that your side has, I think that this is the poorest team display that I have seen you put up against us ever!!
Talking to your supporters today, there seems to be a drink & "EGO" problem with your squad at the moment.
Hopefully Tony Smith can sort the problem out, as you have underachieved
for the past 2 or 3 seasons.
Keep the faith, cos things will get better.
You reached an all time low today & the only way is up.

Simon Moran joined the Wire board in the late 90s, when the club were in a really bad mess. With the introduction of Peter Deakin, the momentum started with pushing the club forward. We were getting crowds of around 5000 at Wilderspool at that time, averaging 7000 when we left. The buzz of moving to a new ground brought in the crowds. Since then with Morans as owner we have bought international class players and are competing with the bigger teams for the signatures. We have regulary had crowds of 12 or 13000 against the big teams at the HJ, which before we moved I never thought we would have achieved. Now where things have gone wrong is that the team havent produced winning results consistently and that has been our problem for years. What the reasons behind that I wish I knew.
Crowds are declining and that IMO is down to the poor results. Only last week I read that we have 5000 season ticket holders, compare that to a couple of seasons ago when we had nearer 7 or 8000.
So how can the decline be down to Moran?

An eloquent summary of the rant I made to my dad at the Armenian Taverna in Manchester tonight.
Well done.
I know it's a tired cliché, but I'll watch our u21s, plus the players in the team who actually give a damn, get tonking after tonking rather than the current shower. We have no fear of relegation, let's get rid of the cancerous elements that have ruined everything we once believed in.

That's the one, mate.
Easily my favourite eatery in the city.
I'm a veggie myself, and the vegetarian banquet is quite exquisite, but I'm told the other options are equally good.

that would be a good call, some players just need a kick up the butt every now and again to get there playing head back on, it would show the underperforming players that smith isnt scared of their big name status and isnt scared to drop them.. if he then plays the reserves in the super league game the youngsters will gain valuable experience and if the first team play in the reserve league , they might get that winning feeling back as the opposition will be poor and the team might gel together as a unit and regain the lost confidence

| Don't forget that you guys was 1 of the teams saints and Leeds was looking over there shoulders at.
We are only 5 games. It's the same set of players that made your team 1 of the faves before the season kicked off.
Lowes should never have been givin the job as 1st team coach as it was to early. I'm fairly certain under smith u will be knocking around the top 5 and a good challenge cup run.
5 games don't make or break a season, look at saints early last year.

how do you know who does and does not do their job well at the club? your sweeping reforms would be suicide and in my opinion stupid.
you can judge the players, but not the back room staff , some of whom i know put more than their contracted hours in every week cos they love the club.
how much of your spare time, apart from attending the match do you give to the club??

If no, turn out at Wilderspool, every Saturday, in front of 100 people, and know that your facing the prospect of doing this for two & a half years if needs be, if the money means that much to you, then good on you, if you can afford a drop, instruct your agent to get you an NRL club asap, and we'll call it quits for the money you've stolen so far.
If the players think they can take on Smith, they are wrong, they are wrong for a start because I think we've all had enough of them, collectively we've had a gutful of them. We've shifted the blame everywhere, Cullen, Lowes, Moran, it's the players, they don't work hard enough & they don't want it, and if I had to choose, I'd back Smith tomorrow, if he wanted to get rid of all 25 of them, play the reserves until the end of the season, and bring in people that he trusts to work hard for our club, I'd back him 100%, the players need to realise, the fans are speaking now, they can't hide anywhere, the blame is firmly being placed at their feet, and should Smith want to weed out 1,2,5,10 whatever, the fans will back him.'" good comments
