| Wow, it's all looking great. Wish Wigan would fill the corners in but I've read somewhere that they designed it so it wasn't possible

The way they've built the stands behind the sticks at DW would make it difficult to fill in the corners. They've bricked up all the sides, unlike HJ, so it would take quite a bit of work to restructure it in a way to hold the roof. But I reckon it could be done if needed. I doubt they'd purposely design it in a way that would make it not possible to expand.
Don't see the need to expand it though myself. How many times has the place been full? Wigan Athletic's biggest crowd this season has been 18k so far and they're in the Premier League (although they've only played two North West teams so far this season).

| Wonder if there will be an attempt to get some cladding on the outside of the SE croner before boxing day, otherwise it might get a bit chilly/wet at the now open ends of those stands.

I'd put my house on Wigan RL having filled it more often than the Latics.

I'm just making an assumption, but surely Latics fill it for games against Man Utd and Liverpool for example? If not, bloody hell how are they still alive?!

| i would have thought wigan fans would be more concerned about getting their own stadium, rather than filling the corners in at their local football ground.

| Don't think Wigan will ever have their own stadium again ! They sold their soul and will never get it back ! The only option they might have is if Leigh go out of business and they take over their but they still wouldn't own it ! They are the gypsies of rugby league along with Broncos / quinns

Latics crowds have been terrible the last 2 years. Last year they only got 13k on against Chelsea.
This season they got 18k but with 4k in the away end and loads of free giveaways.

| Apparently the 15,500 figure was a bit of talking the figures up. According to the planning application submitted, there will be 928 new seats in the NE and approx 840 new standing positions in the SE. That would make the new capacity = 13024+928+840 = 14792. Whether any design tweaks following planning permission have been possible to squeeze a few more in, I'm not sure. But surely that would only take it up closer to or around 15k, not as much as 15.5k.

| Regardless of new capacity I hope the 'closing in' of the home stands will has a positive affect on the atmosphere at home games. It also looks so much better.

Perhaps that 840 is extra on top of what the south stand original planning consent was for i.e. before the club reduced the number allowed in it following the crowding at first ever game.
Although the standing area isnt as deep as the seating, it should hold more than seats, otherwise the south stand would surely hold less than the north stand pre-extension.

| Won't the original southstand hold more people as the sky screen won't be there the capacity must go up for that reason alone

Seems more realistic figures to me. I was struggling to see where they'd get even 2k from let alone 2.5k. Didn't realise one of the corners were standing, or that one of the corners were a different depth until looking at the photos (was wondering how a standing corner would hold less than a seated one).
Will the moving of the screen make much difference? I thought it was above the standing area before anyway so didn't take any room from spectators?
On the subject of the screen, not too sure I like the location of it.
on the image below, those in the top corners in the North and West stands won't be able to see it. Perhaps they should have removed the transparent cladding and set the screen further into the corner to make it more visible then just clad around the screen to stop the wind coming in?

| Although its never been an issue in the west, anyone stood in that far corner of the soulth has always had a very bad veiw of the screen anyway, so there's no change there!

The capacity of the south stand is cut by about 200 when Sky have the 3d cameras in place. It usually loses about 50-60 when the screen is up.

| The North and South Stands didn't go right to the dead ball line before, so the expansion is not just the corners. Therefore I think the expansion is possibly bigger than thought.

| Having been to the game today, I can confirm the new corners make the whole stadium look a great deal better now. Once the supports are gone it will be very impressive.
