| Quote ="just_browny"I've praised Ratchford's defence all year but no idea wtf was going on today, they targeted him and it kept working.'"
Part of the reason can be seen in the commentary on the condition of Williams going into the match.
Sometimes we're not privvy to everything that goes on in the camp - quite right too.
Yes Hudds capitalized on it - fair play to Fages in particular - and I was impressed that once they spotted the weakness they kept on targetting it.
Next week it will be interesting to see if the left edge is working like it has for a lot of this season.

| Someone else mentioned Currie moving in field a lot more. That would have exposed Ratch too, especially if Williams was under the weather.

| Kevin Naiqama was superb yesterday. When it's hot defences struggle to put the pressure on ... so he gets more good ball than normal. Hence so many soft tries.
Hope it's not hot next game v Wigan otherwise French & Field could have some fun.

| Walker will captain Warrington one day I reckon. He's got all the attributes. He's aggressive and enthusiastic and mouthy without it ever boiling over.

| Quote ="Wiremansam"Atrocious 80min performance but at least we hung on to win. Defence in our 20 and attack in the opposition 20 is embarrassing. Thewlis, Williams, Wrench, Walker and Currie were all very good but Dufty and Ratchford need to be dropped even though the latter won us the match according to some on here with 5 kicks from in front of the posts. Need to see some improvement soon.'"
I mentioned the 5 from 5 and Huddersfield 3 from 5 being crucial, which is a fact. There were 5 tries for each team, and as I pointed, out our defence is not good enough. I made no comment on whether the 5 goal kicks were enough to keep a shirt.

We had Ashton and Thewlis, who are no slouches and we didn't get either one into space during the entire game. Thewlis did it all on his own. Yet, Huddersfield carved us open down our left with far too much ease.

I thought he spoke well on the Sky interview.
Yes I could see him as a future leader.

| I might be getting soft in my old age, but I’m happy with that. We have lost those games so many times over the years, where we couldn’t stop the flow of momentum and got done at the end of the game.
Win it, fix up the little bits, move on. Big one next week

They seemed to but is it our left edge at fault or the fact that they have their two best players on that side.
So move our right edge players to the left ... would they have done any better?
Thewlis has scored a few solo tries now ...
I really can't see why he can't play half back or centre ... mind you I have not coached him ... but if I did I would soon find out.
If I met Powell (in the Wheatsheaf) that would be my second question.

| Speaking of thewlis(this is a forced connection) sky were doing their usual waxing lyrical of other teams juniors, price and russell, mainly.
But completely ignored that the pair of them were totally at fault/ineffective for a couple of our tries.
Pryce showing no fb defensive nous whatsoever for the thewlis and walker tries

| On 2nd viewing ...
We were unfortunate to have three tries chalked off for "tiny" fingertip touches which would have changed the game. In addition their final try was way forward but not given.
Naiqama, Facebook & Pryce (attacking on the right) where their attacking threat. Though we were easily undone on the left for the Cudjoe try in the first half.

| I did & very interesting. He does look as though he switches off a bit. Defence has to be a joint responsibility though as the FB can't be everywhere & he's going to get tied up in the tackle but the main organiser role is key.
He's not made as many long distance runs of late & he could do with one as he looks a bit short of confidence.

| stupid quote button isn't working, the numbers thing does bare out, the cudjoe try seemed to be the same thing as what wells pointed out, yes we all blamed matautia or wrench at the game, but they did seem to be outnumbered by about 2 attackers, so there's something in this.
you're right though, he does look like he needs a confidence booster an arm round his shoulder, his attitude and body language stank when harrison didn't offload to him for williams try, everyone else ran through to celebrate, he stood there sulking.

| By all accounts Mr Dufty is not just a glass half-empty kind of fella, for him the glass is completely empty and dirty to boot.

| Yes, Dufty was not a happy bunny when Harrison didn't pass to him.
It's a pity we aren't coming up with better ways to take advantage of the pace we have in the side at the moment through Dufty, Ashton, Wrench and Thewlis. Kick plays can sometimes be a great option, such as the simple but effective one that provided Jai Field's try for Wigan on Friday. A few planned moves like that, not over-used, would give defences a bit more to think about.

Just watched the game and agree on both points. In a non-televised game two of the three no-tries would actually have been given and Huddersfield's final try was definitely off a forward pass.

| Yep. The analysis of Dufty organizing the defensive line was interesting.
A lot of talk about communication (or lack of) but to me there also looks like a lack of urgency.
I know Phil Clarke had his view on Dufty's ability to create tries but he has shown that ability.
I know that other teams have switched positions during games. I think Field and French sometimes swap between wing and FB or SO in game.
Maybe it is worth considering Dufty on the wing and Thewlis at Fullback but with the option to bring Dufty in to a pivot role on some attacking plays. I know that Powell used to switch Shenton and Turner between wing and centre and this is a bit more dlradical

| As for Ashton & Thewlis ,they both show creativity & are good at making space for themselves , Would they be better in a more central position to break down defences? There is talent & toughness in our youngsters.

| Quite simply we want them both to touch the ball more. I'd like Thewlis to get it when he can dummy & he can't do that so much on the wing.

| While Dufty might be a bit grumpy, the pace he shows is unbelievable at times. Thewlis is no slouch but watching him fly up alongside and support at a canter was impressive. Even for the Fages try, he completely messes up the situation, starts to have a tantrum before giving chase and still reels Fages in and almost prevents the try.
Ratchford and Drinkwater aside, the backline is electric. Can see the idea, big ugly lumps battering the middle and shift wide for the backs. Just need the big ugly lumps to stay in the country and on the pitch!

Just watched the whole match back and Dufty’s body language had the look of a guy not happy at all even when he got his try.

I may have cut a similar figure, in fairness. The Dufty try was a sigh of relief, not a chance to celebrate.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not convinced that he’s happy, and I’m not convinced he is staying. But there are higher priorities for me. If Thewlis was at fullback full time, would we be better, worse or the same? Now, ask that of Williams, or Vaughan. Dufty can go for me, if he’s unhappy. He’s not setting the world alight and while there is no doubt of his athleticism, he’s not as rounded a player as what Thewlis could be (could, not is… yet).
However, if we can get them all fit, flying and happy, then we have a chance. And from experience, winners tend to be slightly less homesick than losers.
