| The Super League is comparable with the 3rd tier of football in average attendance at 8,153. With Wire's closest football club in terms of attendance being Preston North End down from our dizzying heights of Barnsley in 2011.

The playoff system has changed and there are no easy games this season.

| Bradford and Keighley used to market their squad well and that resulted in good gates, that should have been the eye opener to everyone that marketing works.
Then Keighley were poo'd on, Bradford mismanaged the accounts and both are back to square one. We have an owner who made his millions in promoting YET?
The RFL and the clubs need to pull their fingers out and sell the game, the build it and they will come attitude doesn't work.

| I would have assumed that clubs do not get around to posting any season ticket sales to the media until immediately prior to kick off TBH as some fans presumably, for whatever reasons, could buy the day before the first S.L. match is played. Secondly one person's 'educated' guess could be quite different from another's. FWIW, the HKR CEO, for example, was replying to a question at a televised fans forum during last week and stated he was confident that WHEN the number is known he was confident the club would be posting an increase in sales for the second consecutive season, albeit a small increase, despite a disappointing 2014 campaign. I would expect most clubs would issue a statement regarding season tickets, unless they were majorly disappointed with sales at some point early in the season.

| What's this talk about e-cigs affecting attendances? Other clubs have them as stand sponsors, Saints included, and I've never heard anyone with any opposition to it. You've got Magners as a sponsor, which is the bigger evil there?

It is nothing to do with E-Cigs. The Running Rugby Article was 15th Jan. The e-cigs announcement was less than a week before on 9th Jan.

Why would the fact we have more season ticket holders than Warrington rankle you ? We have better averages for past few years anyway.

| I think you have to take the article with a pinch of salt. It does not say when the figures where sent by clubs and it is certainly not the final figure. Also the bit about clubs who have sent nothing back have been estimated by experts, just blows the whole thing about facts out of the water.
Clubs don't have to divulge this kind of information, it's not subject to a freedom of information request, so getting accurate figures is always a bit of guess work.

| The amount of Thursday games we have had will definitely be a factor for why we've dropped our ST numbers somewhat. I reckon it's put a lot of out of town Wires off as we did have an unusual amount of Thursday games in the last eighteen months.

I'm quite sure if our ST sales were good, or even higher than last year, we would have heard about it.

To be fair Gatcliffe had a two page interview about a month ago in the weekly rugby league paper (not League Express the other one) in which he stated season ticket sales are up on last year and I'm pretty sure that was repeated by Gatcliffe in another article in League Express a couple of weeks later.
The Manchester Evening News has also reported our "record" sales:
www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... et-8290639
whilst on the club's website we have stuff like the following:
warringtonwolves.com/record-wolfware-sales-7588
So there has been stuff reported about our ticket sales. The Running Rugby article was pretty poor to be fair and quite clearly used made-up figures.
Personally I'd imagine we'd be about the same as last year if not slightly down.

| For me the amount of Thursday and Friday games is the deciding factor. I live 230 miles from Warrington and when most home games were on Sundays I was prepared to buy a season ticket and travel up. As I can't get to Thursday/Friday games without booking time off work, it simply doesn't make financial sense to get a season ticket any more.

Thanks for the links PY. The MEN article discusses Warrington "sales" which I pick up to be on the merchandising through wolfware rather than ST sales. The alleged made up figures from Running Rugby do seem to match the MEN figures for Saints and Wigan. Especially as the MEN article pre-dates the Running Rugby article.
MEN article
Quote The Warriors are aiming for 10,000 season ticket holders and are already up to the 8,000 mark according to marketing director Simon Collinson.
Champions Saints are also reporting a positive knock on effect from their Grand Final win over Wigan. Saints currently have 7,500 season ticket holders and the figure is rising.'"
Running Rugby Figures 2015 ST Sales
Quote Wigan Warriors 8,500
St Helens 7,900'"
Back in 2012 we had 8,000 season ticket holders*. It would be disappointing to learn if this has dropped to 5,500.
If the club are experiencing ST sales up on last year I would have thought they would have put something on their news feed as they did for merchandising.

Ridiculous. The legends of old stuck it up their jumper, ran in, then kicked on the last. Occasionally they passed it once or twice, usually after standing still for a moment and looking around for someone.
The game now is much more fluid, fast-paced and exciting to watch.

| We can try and debate why season ticket sales are down but the stone-cold truth is that it's because we haven't won a trophy since 2012.
We peaked at over 8000 ST's in 2012 and have been slipping down since, GF defeats pushing people away.
Rest assured, should we be successful this season, we'll reach over 8000 again.

I think it depends on what era in the past you are referring to.
My era of the 80's had players like Henderson Gill, Hanley, Andy Gregory, Davies, Woods, Schofield et al and I don't recall the "stick it up your jumper" game you describe. Far from it. The game had far more stand out skill full players and the game was more exciting to watch for me.
Like BBHO I have followed the Wire for years (35 in fact) but only went to a handful last season and it will be the same again this. Sky subscription binned too. When the game is all about winning a quick ptb, formulaic kicking game, de-biffed game, error elimination, high kicks to corners as route 1 rugby I lose interest. Probably because I'm an old git at 43 and my lost support is probably irrelevant to the powers that be, or maybe not seeing as Super League attendances are in free fall, maybe "the product" is not as exciting as it could be. Time will tell.
