| He is alluding to the fact that we have only played 2 games away from home on a Sunday this season:
Hull KR @ Murrayfield and Huddersfield Giants.
Bradford, Saints, Salford, Wakefield and Wigan all Friday evening
Castleford, Catalans, Celtic, Harlequins, Hull FC, Hull KR and Leeds all Saturday.

I think its about the joy of following your team on a sunday, watching the mighty wire against the other SL teams at their magnificent stadia.
Though this season only Huddersfield was actually on a sunday (not counting Murrayfield Magic) and the other 12 were either friday or saturday!!

| Wouldn't it be better if we played all the local games on a Friday (home and away) and all the longer distance games on a Sunday (home and away)
The Friday night M62 trip can be a nightmare (although it's not really a problem for me)

All none-tv ganes should be on a Sunday afternoon. I'm suprised Sky don't already insist on this as it must affect their viewing figures.
I guess the problem is that some of the smaller clubs do not have their own stadiums and have to play lap-dog to their landlord whose primary interest is football.

I agree with the view of rogue from a fans POV it would certainly make it easier but I would imagine from a corporate POV Friday Nights are much easier to sell as a club than a sunday night.
Personally I like the fact that we play most of our home games on a Friday night as it provides consistency rather than having the problem of games being moved left right and centre for Sky.

No because, as pointed out by SLIMply it would increase viewing figures on Sky. Thus giving the game better sponsorship leverage as a whole and a better negotiating position with Sky. Sky viewing figures are so small that a fair proportion of say 30k fans attending other games on Friday would see a significent leap in viewing figures.
This would benefit the game as a whole. However it seems that some clubs bow to the beck and call of the corporate client rather than the game's target audience of the family to suit their own self-interest rather than the game and and its fans overall.
Personally I prefer Sunday as it allows me to watch the Sky game which is the sole reason why I pay a hefty chunk of cash each month as a Sky subscription. Plus not everybody has the perk of the likes of teachers where you finish work at quarter to three on a Friday (when they're not on holiday) allowing them to make their way leisurely to the game.

| And a lot of people work shifts and weekends so you can't please all the people all the time.
Of course clubs bow to the corporate side of things, at the end of the day they are businesses and need the money that is brought in by that.
Clubs should have the freedom to pick to play games on the day they feel will bring in the most profit for them be that via ticket sales or corporate packages. Obviously they have to be flexible to what sky want when it comes to showing games but other than that I think it is fair the clubs are left to do what they feel works best for them.

| FWIW i think Wire should play their home games every friday night too, kick off at 8pm.
First its good for consistency, second it is indeed easier to sell and thirdly night games always have a good atmosphere.
I have been to all the Sunday games this season and to be quite frank the atmosphere has been terrible.

| If we changed our home games to all Friday's i'd be able to attend every one...
But even though it means i miss the odd one i still much prefer to attend games on a Sunday thats the true R.L. day for me...
I wish sky would also give more thought to the fans when arranging these Friday night games with regards to us travelling after work...

| Sunday's for me. The proper RL day.
I enjoy watching the Friday night game, then the Saturday night game and then when it comes to Sunday, at least I've still got something to look forward to rather than having a boring day and watching the clock count down to the crap that is Monday morning.

At the first fans forum at Wigan Ian Lenagan had a vote on which day the Wigan fans would prefer for their home games.
The vast majority (around 80%) went for Friday (I preferred Sunday) so Sunday it is.
You see Paul Wigan is a democracy not a dictatorship.
Maybe you should try that at Warrington.

| I hate Friday night non-TV games.
It is meant to be summer rugby, and playing on a Friday night, it is usually cold by the 2nd half even if it has been a lovely day.
You can't beat having a sunny day, wearing t-shirt and shorts and having a few beers outside the pub.
I also subscribe to Sky, so get my moneys worth being able to see two games live, and then go watching the Wire on Sunday.

| Sunday RL matches didn't become a 'tradition' until about the 60s and 70s anyway.
Whatever happened to Midweek matches? Last one I remember was a rearranged Hull-Wigan match on a Tuesday(?) night?
FWIW, I have often thought what PY said regarding Sky's vieweing figures. If there are three non-televised matches on on a Friday night, that's circa 20-30k that aren't watching the televised match that normally would. That said, I have spoken to people as far out as Belfast, Norwich and Glasgow who tune into RL on Sky, so if there are fewer fans from the heartlands available to watch the televised matches, that can only be a plus if viewing figures are up. Moreover, how many people watch their own club on Sky, either at home or down their local pub? I'd say a suprisingly high number.

midweek matches were tried in 1999 and if you recall whoever was playing their 3rd game in a week either performed really badly, or was beaten, with a bigger sqaud(a team) and lower intensity, it was possible pre super league, in 99 and more so now, just too much of a demand on a player.

The problem with Friday is that it's too much rushing about after work. If I fancy a few beers before the game I have to take time off work which is a pain and I presume it's the same for others.
Also, for those of us who are married or co-habiting, no RL on Sundays usually means having to do DIY or be dragged round retail parks by the other half when I would rather spend my Sabbath in the pub and watching RL.
Sunday 3pm all the way.
