Be interesting to see where on the field these errors happen.
Not seen every game Tomkins plays so wouldn't know if last nights hash at fullback was a one off.
Great to see the OAP has more then double the try assists and is only 2 behind on tries.

Think it depends on who Saints have back and when. If they are almost at full strength come playoff time then I wouldn't want to face them.

| Given form and league position there can be no doubt that Wire and Wigan are the best two sides so far. Both may still suffer one or two setbacks in the league. However, the games to come between the two sides (possibly 3 in total) will determine who wins silverware. The only game between the sides this year was comprehensively won by Wire and so Wire have to be considered as the overall form side so far.

Also be nice to see what constitutes an error... Knock on, forward pass, etc.....
I would bet that Brett has a much better record on catching big kicks.
There has been a few mathers style errors from ratboy lately..... I especially liked his 'let the ball roll through the legs' one yesterday against the giants.

He is usually very safe. The bounce of the ball didn't go his way on two occasions but I would hardly call it a hash. The high ball he caught under heavy pressure was hardly a hash either.

Agreed, but form wont count for much in the cup game. Wouldnt like to call it to be honest could go either way. Also, imo Catalan away for you lot will be difficult. They stuffed Wigan at the DW and shut them down in Montpelier.

Good point about where the errors happen. Can't really recall Hodgson making many defensive errors and he certainly looks more secure at fullback than Tomkins.
Tomkins can really rip teams apart and score a lot of tries if they are poor defensively, as Hudds were yesterday. However, in a close game against a team who are on top form in defence, Hodgson's chipping into the line and his superior passing game are much more effective.

FWIW Hodgson is obviously a safer fullback at the moment but Im sure when Sam has that much experience at fullback behind him, he will be just as safe. Thats not to say Sam is an unsafe fullback either, just that Hodgson is very good. In fact, Sam has only had one bad game under the high ball that I can remember- which was Salford away, since then he has been brilliant under it.

Cheers for that. How much more productive is Brett Hodgson than Tomkins?
Hodgson tries and assists combined - 31
Tomkins tries and assists combined - 24
What a player Hodgson is.

To be fair, I've never had him down as an "unsafe" fullback. Seems to get it done when it matters. I can't think of any alarming errors that have been crucial in games from either. That's why the defensive stats are misleading, when we're busy dicking teams we may let the foot of the gas and concetration levels drop. When you're in close games like you usually are, you have to be swicthed on for the full 80, hence less errors.

Tough one, but neither are a patch on Wellens, still the best fullback in the world.

Last nights three tries aren't included. Sam has scored sixteen tries in Super League this season.

Player A knocks on on the half way line when making a break results in opposition scrum head and feed and nothing more than another set of 6 to succesfully defend. = ERROR
Player B struggles with an ordinary kick he should really pick up and run into the field of play however he touches it dead resulting in a drop out opposition score in next set = NO ERROR
Arent stats great dont they really tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth
I couldnt possibly talk about a player based on some numbers from Games I havent seen...[uthe Games Ive seen Tomkins play[/u he is devastaing with Ball in Hand Running at defences...he's made some good tackles but missed some, but has quite often come up with a number of handling errors in goal or on the try line when dealing with kicks...........
you could agree or disagree and talk about his non televised game, but dont throw stats at me from the superleague web site like I'm supposed to read them and go crikey he's better than Billy Slater .........
Brett Hodgson is an absolutely Magnificent full back as an oldie I have a soft spot for Brian Johnson but Hodgson is a different Gravy if i'm honest....if you think he's not very good I wont loose sleep over it....

| The thing with Sam is that he is still learning how to play full back scarily! He was mainly put there for his devistation in attack. In some games this year his positioning has been poor but this seems to be improving week on week and will continue to improve under the watchful eyes of Steve Hampson and Kris Radlinski not bad people to learn from eh?
For me Brett Hodgson is the reason you are doing so well this year, hes a model professional, chimes into the line excellently and also does one thing which you where lacking last year. Goal Kick!
At the minute there is only two teams who i think will be at old trafford wigan and warrington!

| hudds were awful, clueless in attack, when they got to wigans line they would throw an x ball then go for the short option nearly all of the time, the only time i remember them going with the back runner grix then kicked it on the 2nd tackle straight to brett finch's arms. their defence was shocking, their right side were none existant and after a while the whole team was just all over the place. obviously losing danny brough has affected their attack but i struggle to see why their forwards suddenly werent interested in playing, they usually are very dominant but didnt look like they wanted to be their. all i can say is based on that performance, i am not worried about playing them in two weeks. however if they perform well next week and last night was a fluke, then i think we will be in for a tough game.

we havent been playing well for a few month now, being able to pick up wins but not with out a struggle and a couple of bad loses to wakefield and crusaders
losing LOD in the forwards was abit of a blow as he has been brilliant for us this season but losing danny brough was a big one, while we have not been playing well his kicking game and his overall game have won us a few games. but we have been waiting for a bettering like that
altho at 6 - 6 if scott grix didnt knock on from kick off we could have done alot better but after wigan went in a min later our players just looked down and then a good team was exposing our recent bad play and we just got worse through out the game to a point where im not sure i have seen us so stunned and off the pace since nathan brown took charge.
altho losing this game didnt help our top 2 finish i think it may give us the reboot we need, LOD will return next week good timing for the wire game with brough could be pushed back for the warrington game but could be back for the bulls game a week after,
warrington this season have been winning games with the strength and hunger of there forwards which as alowed quality backs to do there stuff, now the 2 times this season we have played wire our forwards have managed to get on top laying the platform for 2 brilliant wins i think if we can respond to this and we start rasing our game to where we can be i wouldnt write us off in any comp yet but alot has to change from yesterday if we are gonna be able to contend

He'd pick Tomkins to run away with on a desert island, like that episode of Family Gut where Stuey and Rupert go to the beach together. Rogues would be Rupert and he would have a bag of Wethers Originals tucked into his shorts. Lovely image.
