| An excellent first game, we bossed them in both attack and defence. There was an edge to our attack where you think we're going to score whereas previously the belief was not there previously.
New players Austin looks everything robersts didn't n that's interested and Jason Clark looks a good solid player maybe in the mould of Waterhouse, hoping he grows into the squad.
Austin and Patton controlled the game well, they communicated and the passing between the two was a positive I think that it will develop quite nicely as the season progresses. I think kicking from both can be fine tuned I expect both austin and patton to be finding their wingers with the high ball more.
Our pack was phenomenal and won the collision in attack and defence probably not seen that level of intensity and determination since brisbane. For a first game we could not have asked for more especially given we've a few still to get a game I don't think we got out of 3rd gear last night our next big challenge will be Wigan, we cannot lose points on our way to them.

| We looked very good live at the game. We looked equally good watching it all back from the TV footage. Not quite sure why there are individuals on here with a need find holes in our game. And yes, you are entitled to your opinion blah blah!!
Don't underestimate the fact that we shut Leeds down apart from one break in the first half and apart from a missed tackle on Ward.
Great crowd, big game atmosphere. A massive well done to the club. Keep doing this and the bums will remain on seats ala 2012.

| Great start to the season.... Don't want to get too carried away at this stage but with lots of squads depth and players chomping at the bit to earn a shirt its the most optimistic start to a season since the Sandow inspired 2016 season when we won 7 in a row....
How fast is Blake Austin over the first few yards!!! He's going to make a mockery of lots of defenders this season.

| Decent hit out with quality all over the pack. Very interested to hear the comments of Austin and Price on the catch up. They both thought we were essentially below par and have a long way to go. Nothing but positive for us.
Leeds will come good .. I hope it's this weekend.

| Really speaking it wasn't all as one sided as we think ,we stopped 2 Leeds tries mostly against the run of play. I thought it was a good game ,really enjoyed it.

| The thing i really liked about Austin, was the obvious threat he posed to the line... You could see the leeds defenders not knowing if they should be backing off him, or committing to the tackle.... One little mistake/badly judged tackle and he will be away........He will be going through defensive lines this season, like Ben Barba's mrs goes through concealer.

Absolutely
A big half back creates a presence. No coincidence Leon Pryce was influencing for Bradford and Saints.
Already a big fan of Austin.

| Interesting that Toby King was selected in the second row. I have seen regular suggestions on here that Atkins should head that way but not in relation to King. Is this a sign of his future, a temporary measure while Currie recuperates or a one off?

Difficult to say, we have BMM, Davis, Livett and Luis Johnson who may stake a claim to a second row start at some point in the season. King in the second row was the option that I never saw coming, so maybe there will be other unexpected changes to the side this season.

I think it's much simpler answer Skipper.
The natural selection of Livett....well his form has been pants and stunk at Wembley, cheating a fit guy out of a position, if you ain't 100% at Wembley, it'll find you out, and I'm a big fan of HL, he has natural ability.
Atkins form has been good so to reward that SP has moved King who is versatile to accommodate him and reward good form. SP must feel the team is stronger for that...I completely agree. HL needs to get back to mid-summer form, when at times he was unplayable, when he gets his chance, otherwise, if Currie beats him to it...HL might find himself a regular at Spotland.
Livett might just get his chance on Saturday. He must give SP a headache.

| Yes I've had one or two debates on here about Centres playing Second Row. It really is not a big move and very low risk ... obviously Price is of a similar opinion.

Your debates have been about Atkins moving to centre and yes it is a big move and yes it is high risk. not every centre can do it. If that was the case Atkins would have played at 2nd row rather than King on Saturday.
Atkins is bigger and more powerful than Toby, so why did Price put a smaller man into the back row? Simple. He knows that King is up to the job and Atkins isn't.

It may be something to do with the more powerful centre he Ryan was up against. I am sure SP saw Konrad Hurrell as one of Leeds' main weapons and he wanted to nullify it with a big centre. Both of them had solid games on Saturday. I think Steve Price rates Toby King and now trusts Ryan aswell.

Could be right on that. Whatever it's obvious that Price sees no real problem in making the shuffle rather than pick someone who usually plays prop or loose forward in the the second row position. It will be interesting to see who gets picked this Saturday. Obviously Hughes & BMM can play out wide but there might be another surprise.

I was told a good while ago, by a player, that the club wanted to try Ryan in the second row. I have since been told that Ryan doesn't want to move in to the second row, so it would appear he has had his wishes upheld.

| Changing the topic slightly, how did we think jason clark did. he's very much a man of doing the unnoticeable stuff, but did you notice him?
i know there's the debate now about position names (props or middles) but he did seem to be getting used full time as prop at the weekend, very direct running in the middle of the field, never seemed to take a backward step and tackles in a typically well trained aussie style. Did he catch anyone elses eye?

I thought he was great. Doing the dirty stuff that Hughes was doing last season.

Great shout FMC.
Yes. Doing the dirty stuff every team looking for success needs a couple of. With Clark and Hughes doing that, I'm very optimistic.

He caught my eye and I watched him intently when he was on the field and when my mate asked me who my MOM was I said Jason Clark. I though we looked a lot more secure/composed/calm when he was in the middle with the lads. He's got a great engine and was willing to do the hard graft when we found ourselves coming out our own 20 or defending in our own 20. Very professional performance.

Clark and Hughes between them get involved in almost all defensive measures. If they dont hit first they are pretty much supporting tacklers.

Absolute work horses. I've a feeling J. Clark will get slated by some as he's not flash (Waterhouse copped a load of flak and he was the exact same) but him and Hughes in the 2 row is perfect. Strong, steady no nonsense types who work off the ball as well as on it. They can both can do 80 minutes too. Ideal starting 13 for me would be:
Ratch
Lineham
Goodwin
King
Charnley
Austin
Patton
Hill
D. Clark
Cooper
J. Clark
Hughes
Westwood
Then have Walker, Philbs, B.M.M & Akualoa/Tasi off the bench.

Spot on - people who have a good understanding of the game will see him as an integral part of the team and a bit of an unheralded star. Others would prefer someone like Danny Lima........
