I think the only discussion that would be considered would be along the lines of " look Tyrone, if you want a gig in the NRL when this contract ends you are going to have to up your game and smartish".
Personally I'm of the view that it is still relatively early days (like Matt King) so still prepared to be patient.

the Comparison with King is interesting King had played reserve grade Rugby then Retired and become a binman by the age of 22.
he returned to the game having turned 23 and by the time he joined Wire aged 27 he had won a premiership (sort of) played State of origin and played for the Kangaroos.

Roberts has been an NRL regular since the age of 19 and joined us age 26 having won nothing and never played Rep Rugby.

Being Patient With Roberts is likely to be simply waiting for him to find his level as a good superleague Halfback and nothing more. He is not Andrew Johns or Alfie Langer.

He has no prior top level Rugby League to call upon just a lot of games for two poor NRL teams and long periods of criticism about his form.

I was glad we had signed 'someone' when we signed Roberts because I was desperate for a change from the previous year, and wasn't sure a Rookie coach was going to be enough. However if people are waiting for a Sandow MarkII you have no chance and neither will we get a young version of Gidley. Roberts is simply a more experienced Aussie version of Gareth O brien or Dec Patten in my view.

the returning to the NRL for Roberts is a non starter for me if he returns home it will be to play reserve grade or back up half back to a lower table side... I dont see where he gets a starting half back spot in the NRL.

I hope he sticks at it and becomes a good superleague halfback but I'd swap him for Blake Green on Monday.....

Never winning anything or playing rep rugby in australia doesn't make him poor. Blake Green has done neither of those things over there. Being an NRL regular since he was 19 as a half or FB shows he more than good enough for SL. Sure there are plenty of reserve grade aussie half backs that would impress over here.

We currently have our best HB pair for a fair while. We've previously enjoyed 1 good HB and 1 other one (or 0 good HBs).

In Brown + Roberts we have 2 very competent HBs, which is something that we've not had for a long time. Both can kick well, throw a decent pass, and share the attacking load between them. We therefore have 2 dangerous attacking edges (along with the other personnel). It makes teams think now, as all the play doesn't just go through one person. We look structured and balanced with the pair of them.

Roberts doesn't smile? So what.

Is the only stick we're beating him with the fact he's not lived up to over-inflated expectations? If so, I don't care. Roberts is a cog in a far bigger machine that's now starting to tick.

Just watched the game back; Roberts was congratulating players after tries, patting players on the back after mistakes, had hands on the ball numerous times in most sets, took the line on, looked lively and "hunting"for gaps, after passing he'd follow the ball looking for an offload or pass back to him.. I don't know how anyone can watch that performance and decide that because he didn't leg it 30 metres or so to pat someone on the back after yet another try he's not interested.

It's not about smiles or high 5's although some pitch antics wouldn't harm his fans reliations one bit, but about what he does with the ball in his hand in a game.
He isn't sending out smoke signals that he's a burning Wire for sure.
He's going the right way though.

When we reached the GF year before last, I remember seeing Sandow capering around with the team and joining in the general feelgood, camaraderie spirit on the field. At the time there were rumours he was going to exit swiftly.mid-contract but in the absence of a denial from him, all we had to go on was his demeanour - given he was injured at the time his togetherness with the team boded well.

And we all know how that story ended. So, despite some stellar performances and more high-fives than a superbowl final his mind, and heart, was already elsewhere.

Roberts has come out and said he's happy, so are his family and he's satisfied he made the right move. He has admitted it is taking time to gel but short of handing over his passport there isn't much else he can do.

Roberts has got far more about him than GOB and Patton, a look through his NRL highlights videos shows that. Neither GOB or Patton would be first choice players in the NRL.

Roberts might not be Langer or Sandow but he could have similar impact on SL as Denis Moran (in London days) or Luke Dorn, which is what I was hoping for and am willing to give him more time.

I think the expectations about Roberts were overhyped on here in pre-season which hasn't helped him, also the point rubber duckie makes about him not looking like he is a burning Wire - if he was showing more Nat Wood style character in that regard I would appreciate it.

I just hate it when I can't tell whether to take SC at face value or not.

How did we get on against huddersfield without Roberts?

Catching the bloody thing (literally) was the easy bit, who knew they wouldn't be keen on being gutted, had to read my own entrails (their horns are vicious). Anyway, seems he is still in England, likely to be here for at least another week and his kids like the fact that the chocolate over here doesn't have a white "bloom" on it. So all in all very positive, in a negative sort of way.

He’s currently below the level I expected of him, (perhaps unfairly) but his passing game is coming along very well. He’s giving good, quick accurate ball out which is giving Brown and Ratchford more time. His kicking game has been pretty good from early on.

If he adds to that his running game, which from the youtube videos seemed to be the stronger part of his game, I think we have a very good half on our hands.

Seems pretty clear right now that Price is drilling in to them the structures, making sure they have that nailed before allowing players like Roberts more freedom.

Anyone hear/see the facebook interview Tyrone did today?
I get the impression from it he is a guy who will start to look happier once he can play as we know he can. He mentioned the weather being colder than he thought and how important his family is.
He seemed miffed he didnt score in the Bradford game. Although he did point out his try assists.
Hopefully his family settle well and we do get dryer weather soon. Think then we will see a guy who looks to be enjoying his time here and doesn't want to rush back to where he came from.

Roberts seems quite a quiet bloke but a good family guy. Seems a little more stable than our last scrum half from Oz.

I had a watch. He looked fed up. I thought these tough Aussies may be able to cope with the weather being a bit colder - so delicate. It's not as if we are in the arctic circle. Enough excuses, he is being paid a lot of money to be a professional sportsman. If he can't cope with 12 deg C he can go back and we will get someone else. Jesus.

I watched Canberra V Parramatta the other day.

It rained. Actually it batterred it down. None of the commentators seemed baffled by all this wet stuff following from the sky so I guess life down under isn't barbies every night, rivers of pure honey, fields of golden wheat with fair haired maidens running starkers through them handing out tenners after all.

Who actually cares that he isnt constantly grinning from ear to ear and cracking jokes? One of the greatest aussies ive seen wearing a wire shirt was(by his own admission)a right miserable so and so. In fact, i dont think i ever saw him smile on the field once,...............even after winning the lance todd trophy!

I quite liked seeing Sandow playing with a grin on his face, but I didn't realise it was chemically enhanced (allegedly).

Miracles do happen though.
