Money talks! Past success means very little. A player does not sign to go in a time machine and live in the past, they sign for the future.
Plus Wire are one of only 5 clubs who've won anything in a decade.

| More from Tomkins, keeping it cryptic -
From BBC :
But Tomkins, who cited homesickness as his main reason for wanting to return to England, will remain in rugby league and Wigan are strong favourites to sign him.
"Everyone's going to think that's going to happen, aren't they?" added Tomkins when asked about a move back to the Warriors. "That was predictable that everyone would assume that.
"It's one of those where I can't say anything until I do sign somewhere and it will all be out of the way.
"Once it gets released it will be a lot easier for me wherever I am," continued Tomkins. "I don't think the announcement will take too long and hopefully it will be out of the way, not only for me but for people asking questions."

Seriously if he goes anywhere other than Wigan I'll show my backside, and i have zero intention of doing that.

| I think Sam is giving the Pies time to try and raise their bid to match ours. The longer it goes on the more likely I think he'll be a Wire.
I honestly think if it was such a done deal he was going to Pieland, Pies would have already issued a press conference by now.
I think it's down to money and Leneghan can't/wont match Wire. Maybe there trying to get sponsorship as part of his deal. Sam is giving them time to secure it.
Imo

I think he would sign for Wigan straight away if that were possible. The undertones in the interviews does make it seem like there is a contractual or financial barrier to that somewhere. Potentially the salary cap, potentially something in the contract that he signed on his way out. Perhaps they have to repay the £750,000 if they resign him?
I quite fancy Leeds or Wire, just for the fact that it would annoy Wigan so much. It would be hilarious. He hasn't always had a smooth ride at Wigan either. He was getting serious abuse towards the end of his time there as they believed he wasn't trying and wasn't committed enough. It was quite clear he wanted out of Wigan ASAP when his NRL move came up. There is also the issues of Zac Hardaker. He's had so many indiscretions at Leeds that they've now released a statement publicly chastising him and making him work 20 hours a week for the marketing or community development teams. That kind of thing just makes it untenable after a while, you see it all the time, people who are in trouble with work pretty much always end up leaving. If that's the case I could definitely see him moving on, which opens up a possible run of moves cascading through SL.
His return to Wigan is probably the most likely outcome, but I could see a stint in France or Salford if Wigan have cap issues for a season.

I've read all this thread and I'm genuninely intrigued as to why you seem so obsessed with Wigans financial situation? how could you possibly beleive that wigan have no financial clout?? Wigan have been the best supported club for several years, have a very favourable ground deal (no upkeep costs etc) and are backed by a very wealthy owner. Wigans last 4 or 5 signings have all included transfer fees and a very vocal owner keeps reminding us he has no qualms whatsoever in dipping into his pockets for more, not to mention that we are currently operating well under the cap. Players like Tomkins don't come cheap but find it odd that you cite finances as the reason you believe he'll end up at Wire before Wigan.

| Each year teams release there annual profits. Wigan often make a tiny profit above breaking even, but last season made a big profit, coincidently through the sale of Sam!
Owning a stadium with rights to match day extra sales is the reason for this.
I expect Saints to soon be joining the financial clout of Leeds followed by Warrington.

So he's slipped up and said he was putting on a Wigan jersey? Whoopie doo. Everyone in RL knew he was going back there anyway, so who cares.

| I'm sorry, Gents, but I just don't buy this "Wigan can't afford him on their salary cap" business. I've just looked at their squad and imo you've got
mega bucks
SO'L
Bowen (laughably)
Tomkins J
Matty Smith (possibly)
decent amount
the rest of the "starting XIII" plus Bateman
OKish amounts
the remainder
They've lost, in the last couple of years
Pat Richards
Tomkins S
Blake Green
Bottomhole Hock
All of these will have been on mega bucks
and to some extent Harrison Hansen
I think they've still got a lot of spending power

Correct! (Apart from Matty Smith who I can't see being on a great amount).
Wigan fans have been asking for years where the salaries of the high earning leavers is going. We have a deep squad but not a raft of players you'd think must be earning top whack.
Add in the likely departures of Bowen, Patrick, Burgess and possibly Hughes, Burke and Hopkins as well as Pettybourne who's already left and it's not hard to see how we'll fit him in.

Will Wigan have to pay any money back to NZ Warriors as Sam has come back early ,that is providing he goes to Wigan & could that be avoided if he went through a third party club?

Once Sam has an injury they are knackered.
