I believe so along with Brian McDermott and Stephen Kearney. He is 10/1 with some bookies aswell.

| Quote ="getdownmonkeyman"Can you clarify something for me? It is widely acknowledged that Hodgson has signed for the security of a two year (probably final) contract. When the same situation arose with Phil Bailey and yourselves it was widely reported he had taken a pay cut to gain a final contract.
Can you explain the differences in respect of renumeration?'"
Because Bailey isn't the reigning MoS, wasn't moving clubs, and is an average player who's been kept around for his influence.
I don't really see the comparison with Bailey tbh, if i'm wrong about Hodgsons wage then fair enough. But surely you must assume he's not moving clubs for peanuts, even with the security of the two years?

utter tosh! he's head and shoulders above any recent signing your club has made, you slagged king off when he first signed, monaghan when he played at 7.
tbh your statement just reinforces what a good signing he really is.

| As a Giants fan I am sad to see Brett go but I think the Giants have made the right call on this, The reason for this is he will be 33 before he plays a game for you, he has played 7 out of 17 games for the Giants this season and is now out for another month.
If we had signed him for another year I would have been delighted, 2 years and it's a tough call but feel we have made the right one? this will become clear over the next 2 seasons after this one, as to if it was right or wrong.
You are getting a thinker, a great professional who is positionally brilliant and a great influence, but you are also getting a player who needs to be able to offload to someone when he has taken the high ball, chip thru or grubber cos the pace isn't there anymore but then again it wasn't when he won MOS either.
Whatever happens good luck to the lad as he has done us proud.

Smith is obviously bringing him here for his coaching abilities as much as his playing skills.

| Obviously there is a risk in giving Hodgson two years rather than one. The same is true for any player whether aged 22 or 32. Sometimes though if that's what it takes then you have to do it.
Remember common wisdom was that Warrington were the only muppets stupid enough to offer Morley a 4 year contract on his return to England. If that swayed Morley to sign for us then I guess we'll live with our mistake.

I don't think it can be done, I think the coaching wage counts on the cap as well. So any money they are paid by the club counts on the cap. Otherwise you'd have lots of people coming over as player coaches who ended up doing very little coaching I imagine.

The Coaches Salary are not taken into account for the cap. But i think player coaches salary does.

| Quote ="Mini Rogue"To compare such players to Brett Hodgson is laughable. All 4 where highly rated International star quality players with 3 or 4 years ahead of them. Craig Smith and David Furner went on to play for other teams after they left Wigan! Lam and Furner where in the State Of Origin series the season before they joined us and on the right side of 30, which means we got 2/3 good years out of them. Lam only Suffered an injury in his last season 2003 when we had to play Luke Robinson instead of him in the final, and that was only towards the end of the season against you men at Wire if I remember in the last league game between Wigan v Wire.
I haven't said any opinion on the Hodgson signing but to compare them to those 4 is ridiculous. You could have easily have picked some other shockers we've had since then though!'"

| If a coach plays at any level in a RFL sanctioned fixture (Super League, Challange Cup or Academey) then their full salary will go against the cap.
I'm pretty sure this lead to one of Hull's breaches when they had one of the coaching staff turn out off the bench for the reserves due to a shortage of numbers. Does show that there can be a difference in salary cap breaches and not all of them are just plain cheating like Wigan's breaches were.

IIRC, Gary Chambers was going to help out with the reserves a couple of years ago but couldn't because he would then appear on the cap [size=85(yes, that's right Wigan fans, our club is run by people able to understand the cap and thus check out things first rather than try it on and hope to get away with it).[/size

Deacon was brought in as back up though for squad depth, and as someone else mentioned he is brought in as a player/coach. but his whole wage counts on the cap, the aim for this year was still on his playing, moving into a bit more coaching next year.
I think Hodgson is a good signing for you guys, but there is a risk due to his age and position, and the fact Hudds were willing to let him go. Comparing him to squad players like Bailey and Deacon isn't really the same.

Again no, if they play just the once, then the whole wage is counted on cap.

He was certainly in the Wigan team beat Warrington at the HJ earlier on this season. All the "seven" who didn't play against Quins played in that Wigan victory.

You really aren't making sense. Huddersfield could have offered two years or even more and still would have no way of determining his staying or going.
