| Monty Python's "Life of Brian" is a fantastic film. The Mel Gibson re-make from a few years ago wasn;t half as funny.

Come on Quinny, you might not be a big fan of films but I think this thread is excellent.
If you don't like the topic then no need to comment on it.

| Slumdog Millionaire.
When I saw it at the cinema, I thought it was one of the best two or three new films I'd seen in the past decade or so. I re-watched it earlier this week, and whilst it did not knock me off my feet as much, it is still a very, very good film.

Really? What did you like about it?
I thought it almost childlike, undemanding and cloying. I also think the narrative structure is "gimmicky" which prevents the story from developing pace until the last half hour. There are much better real Bollywood rags to riches stories. The depiction of India has also been panned by critics. Cinematography was very good though but 8 Academy awards is way over the top in my view.

| Childlike is probably what I liked about it. Almost fairytale-like.

| Loads .............. but will offer Hobson's Choice, K-Pax, Man on Fire, the SAW films (if you view Mr Bad as a redemptionist), Se7en, Bourne Ultimatum, LOTR, Shawshank, Prison Break (I know, not a film) ........
Also, anything connected with la Tarantino ............. is absolute over-rated gash.

Amazing low budget film, that one - also love Christine from a little later.
No-one has mentioned Once were Warriors, a shocking but inspiring film. Enjoyed many of those already mentioned but I enjoyed all these too:
Etre et Avoir
Wild at Heart
Spirited Away
Goodbye Lenin
LA Confidential
Straight Story
Cinema Paradiso
Labyrinth
and a special mention for Bubba Ho-tep. Any film with a plot line of Elvis and a black JFK in a nursing home fightng a soul-sucking mummy who preys on the elderley gets my vote............

| Shawshank is an awful film full of every oscar winning cliche you can think of rolled into one film.
The narration
The old good guy in prison everyone likes
The old friendly black guy
The evil prison officer
The more evil rapist bad guy
The even more evil megalomaniac prison chief
The always calm under adversity main character
The guy who knows the truth getting killed
i could go on, the film makes me sick.
Tarrantino films are vastly overrated
"mmmm lets take a normal film and put the end in the middle, the middle at the end, not fully explain the beginning and throw a few motherfudgers and 'N' words in"
wow,
no actually,
nonsense.
A film needs a good story delivered well and try to make it edgy or original.
Shawshank is neither edgy or original.
Now if you want a film with Tim Robbins that is actually very good.
