| GOB is to remain at Wire, I had heard he was linked to Hull KR. Seems we've had a change of mind.
He played pretty well v Hudds too.
I bet him 1st try scorer as we'll, gonna collect now!

| He drifted out of the game last night but then really came alive during the comeback and showed great awareness with his kicking.
Head and shoulders above Myler.

| I can't make my mind up on him. Plays well sometimes, then average, then poor, and can be all three in one game. It's something I'd expect from a 17 or 18 year old.

| Firstly, I think we have to try and stop comparing our current playmakers with Briers. Lee was the last of the species - the all-round, impulsive, maverick genius British half-backs and the end of the lineage that gave us Murphy, Woods & Andy Gregory. They aren't coming back, we might as well yearn for a return to contested scrums.
I don't think there's a SL club in existence who wouldn't swop their current half-backs for at least one from the last 10 years but life, coaching, the game, the demands and requirements have moved on. The game is worse for it, but there we are.
With Gareth, I think he is still sufferring from several seasons of being the bridesmaid never the bride. I suspect he doesn't yet have the confidence to vocally boss the team, but in terms of his raw skills they are improving. I thought his kicking game last night was easily the equal of Brough, which is praise indeed. Alongside an experienced, mongrel of a passing half I think GOB will flourish.
As for Myler, I don't quite get it. He has all the facets needed to be a really good half-back, is at his prime physically, has the experience but his body language for me screams "APATHY". He looks like he's had botox of the soul and shows all the urgency of an ice age.
We've waited, you've had your chance, please close the door on your wait out and tell the next person to come in.

| I know what you mean about 'maverick' half backs.
Unfortunately I think nowadays a lot of the spontenaety has been 'coached out' by game plans.
In situation 'a' you do 'b,c,d,e or f'.
With the mavericks there was a 'g and h' spotted as te ball was recieved, but in todays game the fact the 'g' and 'h' wouldn't work out 50% of the time means that they'd give the opposition the advantage.
With 'a' to 'e' if it goes wrong it probably still means we get to keep the ball.
And I can imagine the rollocking the likes of Wane (Wigan working to a fairly fixed formula but doing it exceptionally well) would give the half for doing 'g' and 'h'.
Whoever follows Briers - it's a bit like Moyes following Fergie. Odds always against matching the same performance initially.
I like having the option of Bridge, Ratch and GOB in the halves.
GOB has the best kicking game
Bridge is so strong and now has the confidence to 'boss' the forwards about that he didn't have in his early 20's
Ratch has great versatility but I do see his best position being in the halves supporting with GOB or Bridge (although there's a strong case for f/b being his best position)
Myler really appears to be having a mare of a season to be honest. He's got to improve otherwise he won't be around after his current contract finishes. (And I honestly think he realizes that, but perhaps things are going on that we don't know about that's affecting his form).

| I don't think bridge can boss the forwards, or team, see the Widnes game, he ment missing in that, and couldn't generate any momentum, wasn't pushing the team around whatsoever.
Even when we were winning you didn't see much of him doing it.

Perhaps he's had his confidence knocked by so called supporters like you constantly knocking him?
Perhaps he's had 2 serious injuries during a stop go season (conveniently forgotten by most).
I get really angry with those who proclaim to be 'true supporters' and then constantly knock certain players.

Hmm. Fair points but flawed.
He wasn't injured at the start of the season, and he failed to deliver in every capacity
If injuries were the issue then Ben Harrison should be at Swinton - he's had considerably worse injuries than Myler this year going back to pre-season but, as you may have noticed, he was a trojan on Thursday and not for the first time
If confidence is the issue, caused by supporters "constantly knocking players" let's lay off Asotasi - he'll come good
Sorry, doesn't stack up. I agree, having a pop at players is unfortunate, but when people are paying hard earned money to see a player going through the motions they are entitled to voice their anger. It's democracy, it's consumer-power and it's fair.

He's been really poor I admit, and I really do think that he'll call it a day at the end of the season, but that rubbish about Myler was ridiculous. Some people need to give their heads a shake.

| I think GOB would benefit from doing drama lessons (deadly serious), they teach you how to be confident and command a room.
I think his game could improve a lot if he became a bit sweary and shouty and use his GOB.

Unfortunately, some people have to have a scapegoat. Once they adopt this view they cannot or will not see anything positive in that players performance. Others will get away scot free for the same or greater indiscretions. Sheep mentality. See the semi final v Leeds as an example. Russell and Grix to name just two committed howlers that led to Leeds tries or set the pattern for the game but Myler gets bagged and very little is said about the others. We've seen this before with Clarke, Wainwright etc.
On Asotasi though, there must be something seriously wrong. He is averaging around 25 minutes a game at best. I wonder if he is carrying a chronic injury and I wouldn't be surprised to see a mutual parting the ways announced shortly.

Tell me what people were saying about Ben Harrison just a few weeks ago? What I'm getting at is the sly pop at players for the reasons stated about Myler, it's just sheer stupidity. I agree, he's had an awful season, but there can be lots of reasons for that. People were having a real pop at Ryan Atkins earlier in the year, no-one knew that he'd been involved in a serious accident.

| The problem with Myler he gives off the demeanour of a player who really doesn't seem committed.
His dart off the field at the end of the SF didn't help either.

| O'brien is the best half back at the club, but I don't think any of them are good enough. We desperately need to sign at least one half back. Next year I would go with this as the backs
Ratchford
Russell
Monaghan
Atkins
Evans
???
???
Obviously that leaves bridge out the equation but he could just as easily slot in at loose forward. If we only sign one half back then O'brien should be the other one
Ratchford and bridge just aren't half backs. Myler can go for me. Been here for 5 years and hasn't really improved all that much, times up.

To be honest I didn't see the match so can't really comment.
A half back has to be vocal ('gobby') and command respect of his team mates.
Bridge doesn't appear to be that vocal but with Ratch alongside I think it kind of works.
It's a totally different style to when Briers played.
Not sure it's the answer long term but for now I'm ok with it.
Potentially GOB can do the job we want but he's a 'work in progress'.
Myler needs to see the back of this year and then work hard over winter as next year is a big one for him if he is to feature long term.

| I've been watching since mid to late 80's, we've had some garbage play for us, but in relative terms i think he is the worst.
In the past we've been in the 'beggers can't be choosers' situation, sometimes got lucky...Langer and sometimes...more than i'd like to mention we had some right dross.
Considering our recent seasons form and the financial clout we have, Asotasi is easily the worst signing we've made.
