| I suspect it won't be too long before he returns to SL.
Over the last 12 months or so he has been turning up at ever increasing frequency, sitting watching
games, TV interviews, presentations etc etc.
Fantastic player but is he a good coach ? He seems to have lost his job at Saracens (?) and is
now only employed by Wales.
Should he be welcomed back and if so, where do you reckon he will coach ?

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Wane go to the NRL and Edwards to Wigan.
And yes I believe he would be good enough to coach at Superleague level.
Oh Good to meet up with you on Saturday.

Cheers Rogues, it was good.
Shaun was at Wasps, not Sarries. Rogues, just out of interest, has anything happened with the so-called partnership between wigan and Saracens, or was it just a sham?

I believe Sarries came up to Orrell to have a look at the training facilities, but apart from that I haven't heard anything.

| Shaun's dad is a Wire legend.
Wouldn't surprise me if he replaced Smith in the not too distant future.
Smith must be vulnerable now.
Wrong squad selection with no backs on the bench.
Wrong decision to run the ball on the penalty at 16-6 in front when the team wanted to kick for the two points.
Injuries happen in a game and not to have cover for your backs is a very big risk. Smith took the risk and it failed big time.
He has to deleiver a trophy next year or else he will be appointed "Rugby Manager" with a new coach taking over.
Wire were favouties to win, lead 16-2 and lost!
Everyone in Warrington wants that "League Champions" title.
Smith has failed to deliver yet again.
If Gizmo isn't his replacement, who?

| Edwards hasn't proved himself as a SL calibre coach yet, comparing him to TS is a nonsense.
Forget about replacing Carvell, Morley, Briers, Hodgson etc. etc., replacing TS will be the biggest problem of all, when the time comes.

The England job was only previously done part time by current SL coaches, until the current one got the sack from his.
it would be a massive disrespect to sean to offer him that job.

TBH with all the money spent to assemble a quality team yet still failing to deliver the GF success the fans crave, the answer is a huge YES IT HAS. The CC wins have merely papered over the cracks. Something is wrong and you have to point the finger at Mr Smith when he has such a talented set of players at his disposal.

I think that's a little OTT.
Smuth has done a great job.
He's dropped a couple of blowtox this season, but lets hope he's learnt

So in the last ten years we nowt years 6 to 10 but the last 5 years 1 to 5 we won 3 CC's 1 LLS and appeared in the GF twice. Some may say thats a positive turnaround, others may say its a waste. I know where i stand. I would have liked to to win one of those GF's but alas it wasnt to be.
The last 5 years have not been a waste

For crying out loud, are people genuinely this thick?
Wire finish 2nd in the league, make it to the grand final, are comfortably winning for 40 minutes, when 2 massive injuries destroy our side, we have our half back playing full back and a forward at centre and it's Tony Smith's fault we lost?

I think he implies smiths era.
I do however hold smith more accountable than just circumstance for the gf loss.
But he is still a great coach.

| Well if Smith's accountable, let's actually have what he's accountable for.
3 CC wins.
Taking Wire from a downward spiral to consistently top of the table.
Bringing on our best young players.
Overseeing a successful academy development.
Retaining several of our best players when it looked like they'd be off.
Turning Wire into a force in SL.
Not winning the GF.
I can see now why you'd want rid... some people just don't know how good they've got it.

I'm sorry I didn't make my last posts clear enough.
You seem to think that im now implying that Smith had accountability for a having a bad era.
I haven't said that, I said he's a great coach.
I was simply referring only to the GF.
I only said that I believe him to be more accountable for the loss than just pure circumstance!
There were decisions he made that directly could have altered the course of the game.
He imo chose poorly, it doesn't make him a bad coach.
ie,
Hodgson drops a ball, does it make him a bad fb?
Briers punches Ablett, does it make him a bad hb?
I can't make my post any simpler than that.

Duckie. I think WITB might be having more of a go at the Leeds Troll than at you. By the way, I think you might be mistaken about Shaun Edwards. i seem to remember we went for him after DVDV left and he turned us down. We then went for Steve Anderson instead!

I disagree fella , great players are far harder to replace than coaches , as Leeds will find out with Sinfield , Peacock , Burrow etc...
Replacing Smith was pretty seamless to be fair .

| Tony Smith will never be fired - However, I think he is a complex enough character that when he goes it will be a bolt out of the blue and might even be sooner than most would suspect, or like.
He seems to me like somebody who is constantly analysing his, and the club's, situation - I would reckon at the moment, the question of whether he has took Wire as far as he can, as probably crossed his mind a few times, its bound to have.
I certainly don't want TS to leave just yet, but I'd hate for him to stay too long and ruin his legacy in a Paul Cullen sort of way, and I reckon Tony Smith might be thinking similar.
