At this time of the year, words are very cheap. I hear 'toughest pre-season ever' and 'fittest I've ever been' every day, but I can't help but believe every single word that comes out of his mouth!

Fantastic interview with what the fans want to hear. The Lord Tony Smith always talks sense and looks for positives. Great news about Mike Monnas being fit and Bret is barking orders to the team. Hurry up February!

Hang on! I’ve said he’s not a bad coach, but to say he ”[ualways[/u talks sense” is a bit of an OTT bum lick even for a wire.

To say something like that you must have occasions of him NOT talking sense. As i cant think of any, could you show us these occasions of non sense making please.... I would hate to be labelled a bum banger / licker as well.

Take off your I heart Tony T-shirt, this is not a court of law I don’t need to defend my opinion in rhyming off silly or clumsy things that he, SW me or I’m sure even you, come out with from time to time. The point I made in IMO, was valid, the guy does at times say things in a way I think later he would wish he hadn’t. I have, haven’t you? Or are you different to everyone else, you seem to think he is. These boards are for comment and debate on RL and other things, some people sometimes like to keep things on the lighter-side with little wind-ups. You should learn to know the difference!

Given it was filmed on a mobile phone our Tony may just have been worried he was going to get happy slapped.

On a serious note I enjoy listening to Tony. Other coaches are more polished but for me he always says the right things.

My guess is that you do that 13 or 14 times a day.

Those of us that have been arguing for a while that there are too many teams in Super League have had to put up with the critics on this forum that say we need to be spreading the game, increasing the number not decreasing. You only GUESS! It seems to me that someone like you would know everything, or at least think that they did. I still think that Smith is a good coach though, just a poor talker.

At the risk of upsetting fellow Warringtonians, I do find TS rather embarrassing when he is interviewed by Eddie on SKY, made himself look like a bad loser at Headingley this year! But if that is my only criticism he can't be doing bad!

I couldn't help but wonder whether the comment in the above video about being arrogant or stupid for making predictions was a sly dig at Wane.

To know for certain I'd have to spend a lot of time with you. I'd rather not.

As for Smith, taking him at face value in interviews is a mistake. When we're crap, he's very complimentary about the other team and supportive of the players. When we're good, he's very complimentary about the other team and plays down how good we've been, albeit that he might single out the odd performance. It's clear he sees it as a necessary evil.

Having said all that, it seems to me he has an issue with Hemmings/Stephenson and he doesn't do a very good job of hiding that. He should do a Michael Maguire - speak quickly and say practically nothing of any note.

I don't think he likes Eddie that much, he often seems very tense when interviewed on Sky but not so on BBC.

FWIW I've always thought he speaks sense 99.9% of the time and doesn't get carried away unlike a rather embarrassing coach at a certain, rather arrogant club.

TS has openly stated several times he can't stand Eddie and has told him that to his face too. Hence the awkwardness in those interviews.

That is widely documented, however I think when he is 'on the job' he could try and put it to one side. I think we all have a similar relationship with at least one colleague or client, but you have to rise above it.
