This time last year they were these scare stories that we could be in for a global economic downturn but the government assured us that the UK was well placed to avoid the worst effects. Basically the same as they are saying now.

Now Alastair Darling keeps having to make admissions that they underestimated the scale of the recession and that the situation is far worse than their initial forecasts. Alan Johnson will be saying the same when the death toll passes 2 million.

It is a mutated form of swine flu. The problem when diseases cross form one animal into humans we have no nautural resistance to it.

The Spanish Influenza pandemic in 1918 killed 25 million in 6 months.
