Yes it was nasty that and you could tell Thewlis thought the same.

The RFL will be writing their apologies, handing out compensatory tubes of Toffos and overturning the bans, as I type.

It will be interesting to see what bans are issued to saints players, and then whether they appeal and are successful.

Just watched the Kenny-Dowall tackle & I can't really work out what has happened ... I must be missing something. The Konrad Hurrell incident & punishment seems a bit lenient in comparison.

Dupree Slid in late but hardly hit him at speed and only bumped Thewlis slightly, i'm not surprised he got off. If he'd steamrolled in to him i coukd see it but he didn't. More lazyness than anything else.

It was needless & reckless rather than dangerous from Dupree, if he would have fallen on him with the knees that would have been different. Penalty sufficient and glad there seems to be a little more protection for the try scorer with the 8 point try.

SKD seems to have a little grab at the players shirt as he stayed down, but it was almost part of the tackle itself rather than him trying to pick him up - seems harsh.

SKD 4 match ban is ludicrous. A relatively light contact on head and a very small pull as if to say "you are not hurt stop putting it on".

Actually re SKD i disagree. It is not for another player to judge whether an injury exists or is serious to the extent of taking hold of them. An injury could be be exacerbated by such actions, so an example has to be set to ensure players get the message.
I do however wonder at the disparity between physical acts and words spoken. In criminal law it is physical assaults that are treated more seriously. I’m not condoning Maguire’s comment in any way just to be clear.

I agree with you that it was at the lower end of the scale. However, there was still absolutely no need for him to be sliding in with the knees, and such actions need to be clamped down on. What was he hoping to achieve by doing that? He was never getting to Thewlis before he touched down, so it was in no way an attempt at a tackle. Therefore I'm struggling to think of any reason why he went in knees first other than to deliberately hit Thewlis.

Dupree did what Sam Tomkins was in the habit of doing in his first stint at Wigan, but he was smart enough to make it look like he might have been trying to get under the ball. Dupree was later than my mate getting to the bar when it’s his round.

I wonder if Dupree didn't get a ban, as there's a serial offender when sliding in with the knees is concerned, who plays for Catalans and is the poster boy for the RFL/Sky.

Wondered when he would be mentioned, not just the going in with knees but often leaving a leg in also. Many times in the past when looking over the disciplinary notes he had often just received a caution, I use to think how many cautions before you got a ban.
